Need a dress for 'New York' style ball, size 16, can't find anything, please help!

I've been invited to a black tie event in December and the theme is 'New York ball', not really sure what that involves, but looking for a nice, glamorous dress, size 16, with a 34G bust and a bit of a tummy but v slim legs ( Apple shape), so not an easy shape to dress. I'm also an Autumn in terms of my colours so looking for something green, turquoise or gold/bronze. Have looked online but not found anything so far.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very grateful!

TK Maxx?

RoganJosh · 17/11/2017 21:02

Would you consider a different colour? I’m an Autumn too and find dress hunting so difficult that I branch out to black and navy but make sure I have a prominent warm toned necklace which is the bit nearest my face anyway.

I am the same shape as you, it's a fecking nightmare! Wrap dresses are my go to, could you look for one in black satin? Although I'm not sure what a New York ball dress would look like?!

Alwaysinmyheart · 17/11/2017 21:06

No I don’t wear colours that aren’t my season. Had my colours done 15 years ago and I really know what suits me now. I feel so uncomfortable in the wrong colours and the colours that work, really work!

Hadn’t thought of TKMax tho, that’s worth a try!

Have you looked on ASOS? They seem to have thousands from different brands. I'd go for sth with a fitted top half and then out from the waist.

If it was summer, I’d wear something like this, as this style really suit me. Just want a more glam version of this!

BikeRunSki That is a beautiful dress...on a skinny woman. On me it would just look like I was wearing a dressing gown!

Really appreciate you looking tho ❤️

Monsoon have a lot of green dresses at the moment, what about this?

Alwaysinmyheart · 17/11/2017 21:27

I looked online and found a company ( based in China) that makes dresses to your own measurement and with a huge choice of colours. Found this fabulous dress. Then.. I read their reviews which were atrocious! Badly made, poor quality material and no refund 😀

That Amazon dress is lovely, but cos it’s off the shoulder might be tricky with bra straps!

Do appreciate all the suggestions, am looking at them all, hopefully we. can find me something and I will be the belle of the ball! 😀❤️

Try Scarlett and Jo. I’m a similar shape and always find something on that site to suit.

Lucked · 17/11/2017 21:50

looks really flattering

Alwaysinmyheart · 17/11/2017 22:51

chocdog that green dress would probably really suit me, thanks for that! I'm quite limited in what suits me but that is def my style. Had a look in Phase Eight last weekend but didn't see that dress, will have to go to a big store and go try it on.

Thanks so much to everyone! X

That sort of Grecian dress is often categorised as a bridesmaid dress so you could try searching that way. Here's an M&S one
