How old is * too old * for a leather jacket?

Just that really. I'm 47. I ordered one and I loved it. I sent it back because I thought I'm too old . I'm regretting it.

Glad you reordered - it’s a lovely jacket

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/10/2017 20:20

What a lovely thread! Gorgeous jacket, OP, and of course you're not too old.

NikiBabe · 30/10/2017 20:46

You have to post a pic when it arrives now!

Summerisdone · 30/10/2017 20:47

My DM is 47 and she fell in love with a faux leather jacket from River Island a few months back but wouldn't buy it due to her being 'too old'.

I bought it for her for her birthday just gone as I knew that if it was a gift then she'd make an effort to wear it a couple of times at least, and a couple of times was all that was needed for her to feel confident in it and not feel mutton.

She looks fab and it goes with almost anything she's wearing... so I say just force yourself in it a couple of times and then you'll soon realise that not only are you not too old, but also that you look great in it as it can update any outfit and is so versatile.

Also, that jacket is lovely.

PolkaDottyRose · 30/10/2017 20:48

Thank you all so much for being so kind. It's genuinely appreciated. Flowers

46 and love mine - v.similar, it is gorgeous!

Auldspinster · 30/10/2017 21:46

My lovely mum is 70 and looks fabulous in her leather jacket and also has a very stylish leather skirt (not a mini).

Botanicbaby · 30/10/2017 22:00

Definitely not too old OP please don't think like that.

My 70 year old mum wears my old leather jacket and it looks far better on her than it does on 40s me! Not least because she can do the zip up Blush

Kr1st1na · 30/10/2017 22:09

Here’s a useful article on what clothes would be appropriate for you to wear at 47

warningcurvesahead.com/2016/06/04/24-things-women-over-30-should-wear/

I always enjoy posting it on these threads and many MNers have found it helpful.

Sarahisthename · 30/10/2017 23:29

40 is the new 30... op your practically 30!
Course your not too old!
47 is too young to think like that x

stopgap · 31/10/2017 01:28

It's a classic item. Never too old.

PolkaDottyRose · 31/10/2017 05:56

Thanks for the article! I have read it before, and of course I agree and would encourage others to wear what they want. Guess I just had a bit of a speed wobble (plus a worry that I am not funky/attractive enough to wear said item - though I have duly noted comments telling me to get a grip about negativity). Life is too short to worry, I know it. Thank you.

Spike in Buffy The Vampire Slayer rocked his leather jacket and he was about a century old.

Hopefully · 31/10/2017 07:16

There’s an age limit?!

No, seriously OP, buy it and wear it if you love it.

AuntieStella · 31/10/2017 07:19

Of course ther's no age limit.

Only ageist stereotypes.

OP: check your mirror, not your calendar.

shhhfastasleep · 31/10/2017 07:23

Older women look excellent in leather jackets.

teabagfreak · 31/10/2017 07:24

I bought one and when lost weight it didn’t fit and gave to my 61 year old Mum and she rocked it! Never too old! Grin

zippyswife · 31/10/2017 07:32

My mum tried on my leather jacket and I was gutted that she looked so much better in it than me- she’s mid 60s. Was the best thing I’d ever seen on her! I tried to persuade her to get one and she wouldn’t but I might try again after reading this thread!

I hope you’ve reordered.

OCSockOrphanage · 31/10/2017 08:31

Still wearing leather trousers at 61! Didn't buy them until I was 45 though.... But not with a leather jacket: that would be like double denim.

Hellothereitsme · 31/10/2017 08:32

I'm 53 and have the same jacket I love it. Who cares age is only a number.

PricillaQueenOfTheDesert · 31/10/2017 08:34

No such thing as “too old”.

Fekko · 31/10/2017 08:35

Ooh I like that.

MinesaPinot · 31/10/2017 08:46

OP I haven't read down to the bottom of the thread but I hope you've re-ordered. I live in mine, and I'm 55.
