Winter wedding guest, need cover up to stop me freezing!

I'm off to a wedding in December. I've decided on this skirt with a black vest/ cami. I need a cover up though as I will freeze in December in a vest!

What do you suggest - I'm a bit wary of over doing my inner ballerina!😉

Definitely need long sleeves!

Would help if I added a pic!

How about just a pashmina/wrap? Black would be nice? I got married 27th Dec 2015 and bought a gorgeous vintage mink shrug and wraps for my bridesmaids - it was gloriously sunny and I was roasting HmmSmile

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 21/10/2017 20:55

I've worn wraps to weddings before and they aren't that warm imo. Also don't want to have to much black.
Was thinking maybe light grey/ silver?
Maybe I could find a warmer fabric for a wrap.... but I'd like sleeves for warmth.

Splurge and get a cashmere bolero or cardi - they’re super warm! But it’s definitely a splurge!

Can’t help on the style front, only the warmth, as that’s one of my winter goals!

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 21/10/2017 21:46

I can't afford too much of a splurge. Probably £40-50 max if it was something I could wear again. I think cashmere is going to be out of budget.

Do you want to go all out and wear a marabou jacket? Not sure how warm they are though? There are a few velvet jackets that are about this year that would look good as well. Gorgeous skirt by the way.

TisapityshesaGeordie · 21/10/2017 22:01

I have a little white faux fur jacket for these sorts of occasions - it's very warm.

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 21/10/2017 22:02

Just googled marabou! I think dh and ds would spend the whole day sneezing! 😂

The skirt sits quite high on me. Should I go for a cropped cardi/ jacket. Or would any length be ok?

Photo didn't post. Anyway, something like that would look lovely with your outfit.

Monsoon can be good for fancy cover up things in your budget. I got a really nice cream bolero cardigan from their website for a wedding last year.

665TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 21/10/2017 22:08

Why not ditch the vest and avoid layering. This seems to work

I do like that jumper, but tbh I have no idea what the venue will be like. It's a big old building so could easily be freezing, or equally it could have lots of heating/ open fires and be toasty.
Plus I'm hoping there will be plenty of dancing later on, so layers are needed I think.....

A wrap cardigan would go with the ballerina look. Sorry don't know where you can buy such things. I'd just get my mum to knit me one Grin

HurtyTeeth · 21/10/2017 22:16

My first thought was wear a fur type fluffy thing over the top.
Or a chic cashmere jumper with a nice big flower brooch accessory pinned to the front.
Something like that.

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 22/10/2017 09:15

Thanks for all the suggestions ladies!

A velvet jacket would be lush but I doubt I'd find one in budget.
Would a ballet wrap be too much? Too ballerina-ish? I don't want to feel like I'm in fancy dress!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 22/10/2017 12:34

Ooh thank you for reminding me I bought a ballet wrap weeks ago which I haven't worn yet. Scuttles to wardrobe ..

DontCallMeCharlotte · 22/10/2017 12:34

Love that skirt by the way.

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 22/10/2017 12:50

dontcallmecharlotte - where was your ballet wrap from?
I'm struggling to find a cover up within budget that will look neat enough to balance the width of the skirt iyswim.
I might just go the full ballerina 😄

Silver shrug available in Monsoon uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_13.8/2413031152 or you could layer on top of your cami with a black thin jumper & take it off when the dancing starts uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_1,mon_1.84/3412600151 or if you could push your budget a really cute black velvet jacket uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_13.21/3424430112

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 22/10/2017 14:28

That velvet jacket is lovely but just too £££. There's no way it would get enough wears to justify the price.

Fake fur cropped jacket - charity shops / eBay often have lots of these type of cover ups as they’re bought and worn for 1 wedding. In my town there are now almost as many decent charity shops as there are normal clothes shops!

What size are you?

Ps love the skirt

This white furry jacket looks nice and is comfortably in your budget.

A cashmere cardigan is something you will wear again and again.. and it will keep you warm! Is there anyone could help you purchase one as part of an xmas gift?
Boden has 25% off at the mo so their cropped one would be £75. I have the cropped and the regular length and they are lovely
