Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEWish since previous threads:

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

NEW since the last thread:

A Damaged Skin Barrier - Now What?

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

OCTOBER 2017: It's our snailaversary Cake! Our baby ripe toddler skins are about a year old now, or rather getting together on these threads about a year ago. I can't believe we're all still finding things to chat on about between the hair disasters. I know I always encourage a bit of catching up at the beginning of the new thread with how everyone's skin been progressing over the last couple of weeks/months but now I'm demanding more Blush and would really like to hear how everyone is doing a year on now, or however long you've been with us. Basically, pledge your undying love for these threads Grin

NB: I've removed the form from the OP as I felt there really wasn't a need for it anymore. I think I've also answered enough of those forms in their previous incarnation for a lifetime so it may just be a selfish decision but it's been made Halo

mint - I'm on a tester panel for makeup/skincare so I'm testing one! It's helpfully labelled "skin paste" and that's it. Apart from the instructions and ingredients, I know nothing about it Grin

mintmagnummm · 10/12/2017 09:38

GrinEnid
Oh how interesting olli do keep us posted.

mintmagnummm · 10/12/2017 09:41

I've broken out in a lot of spots, not particularly usual ones for me either, lots of red lumps on temple and forehead and some red spots/whiteheads on other random areas 🤔. I doubt it's my ANR or moisturiser as been using these a couple of weeks with no problem at all, certainly no stinging/redness etc which is my usual sign, unless it's the urea exfoliating my skin which has now brought all my congestion to the surface?! Hopefully this is the case and they will all clear up. Or could it be that shampoo and conditioner I used that flared my scalp up 🤷🏼‍♀️

botemp · 11/12/2017 19:19

I'm really shit (not shut Grin) at remembering to check on the SCAC, with my luck I'll totally miss out on that super awesome offer I want. Anyhow, today's offerings: 25% off everything from Exuviance.

mint, you've mentioned before that your face will break out on behalf of somewhere else on the body, I think? Do you think it's something like that again?

Olli the Stila liquid lip is Perla - very light almost mauve, if you want it it's yours!

I'll try and catch up with the thread this evening :)

Ollivander84 · 11/12/2017 21:00

I would love it! I adore all those sort of ghoulish mauve nudes Grin

mintmagnummm · 11/12/2017 21:02

I really have no idea bo 😏

Ollivander84 · 12/12/2017 14:32

I'm just back from haematology which went a bit like (I've been seeing the same consultant for nearly 3 years!)

Me moaning about back pain
Mr G "sod it, I'll send you for an MRI. I know nothing about backs but let's check it's healed after your op"
Me "can I have Botox?"
Mr G "can you have what? I must be getting old because you look about 20, but if you insist on getting your face frozen it's fine. I'll just laugh if it's done badly" Hmm
Me "so I can?"
Mr G "go away. Freeze your face happily with my consent" Grin

mintmagnummm · 12/12/2017 16:56

Ok so I've read online that ANR clears all the crap out of your skin and pores, is this true? If so it could explain my recent skin problem?! Which by the way is not good at all! But I'm still hoping after a while it will all clear and heal!

EnidButton · 13/12/2017 03:59

I didn't get on with ANR at all Mint. I forgot you were using it or I would've suggested it might be the cause. It caused congestion and bumps under the skin on my temples, chin and forehead. I stopped using it and it cleared up in a couple of days. Maybe stop for a week and see if it improves?

mintmagnummm · 13/12/2017 07:34

Oh how weird Enid those are the exact places I'm breaking out. Although I'm really wondering if it is actually just decongesting my skin as I've read that it can. I'm hesitant to stop as I actually really like it, my skin hates oils and can never find a serum I like so to have found this that feels like a nourishing oil even though it's oil free, and doesn't cause redness or stinging, is a real achievement. Maybe I'll give it a little longer to see if these breakouts improve.

EnidButton · 13/12/2017 14:05

Perhaps use slightly less or pat it on instead of rubbing in? (If you don't already.)

Tantpoke · 13/12/2017 14:31

Just make sure you cleanse it off properly in the mornings mint and like enid advises use as few drops as possible so it sinks into the skin and doesn't sit on top.

My current regime in this weather is cleanse, TO retinoid 2%, followed by TO buffet, Clarins lotus oil followed by LRP toleraine fluid. Skins seems very happy with this at the moment.

mintmagnummm · 13/12/2017 14:51

I don't pat it in already I massage it in, I use 3 small drops (I use a drop on the tips of 3 fingers) it absorbs really well into my skin. I always cleanse in the morning too, although you can actually use this in the am too. Been reading a few reviews of people saying it broke them out at first. My skin is/was very dehydrated and very congested under the surface (hard to explain, not bumpy but I just know it was congested due to the dehydration) so could it just be bringing it all to the surface?

mintmagnummm · 13/12/2017 14:51

Meant to say I'll try patting

EnidButton · 13/12/2017 15:22

Kind of press it in if that makes sense. Might make sod all difference really but I feel like it helps. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I bought some Xmas presents from Elemis and got a 20g pro collagen cleansing balm free. Looks very cute and smells nice. Think it contains Shea butter so I'm going to be cautious.

botemp · 13/12/2017 15:58

How much time between the Eucerin cream and ANR did you leave for trialing mint? How many drops do they specify you use for the ANR, perhaps 2 is better, if it says 2-3?

I'm really terrible at keeping up with the SCAC but it's been somewhat disappointing this year I have to say, I think this time last year I'd placed two orders already. Today's offer is 30% off Jan Marini and some special priced Decleor sets (which I believe are usually cheaper on French pharmacy sites).

mintmagnummm · 13/12/2017 17:00

Yes I'll give the pressing it in a try thanks Enid.

Bo* erm I'm not 100% sure how long but I think it was 2 weeks ish.
A friend just told me my skin looks smooth! So maybe it is working after all?! 🤷🏼‍♀️

mintmagnummm · 13/12/2017 17:00

Oh and bo I'll have to look when I get home how many drops it specifies but I'm sure it was more than what I'm using

Tsmummy08 · 13/12/2017 17:42

Olli yay for having a choice! And I've PMd you re. Stila :)

Tsmummy08 · 13/12/2017 17:44

Mint It's me that loves the Clinique Lash Power!

userallusedup · 13/12/2017 18:53

That’s good news Olli I am going to do some serious Botox and fillers investigation next year.

My Kiko stuff has arrived finally. I ordered two shadow sticks and an eye primer, but also received a lip pencil, cream blush and a pink bag. Not sure if there was a promo on or it was their error, nothing on the invoice about extra products.

Lip pencil is a bit glossy/gloopy for my liking, but used sparingly and blotted think it will make a nice lip stain. Cream blush is a very nice neutral pink so fine for everyday. Eyeshadow sticks are awesome, I got a grey one and a purple one, they look very bright in the container but are subtle once applied, will be back for more of these. Eye primer is great too, it’s a brightening one and could be used on its own.

Becca primer has also arrived. It applies like a watery serum and feels a bit tacky but dries to a matte finish. I could notice the difference when I applied my makeup as my skin looked smoother and less pore-y, but it didn’t make any difference with oil control as I still needed to blot mid afternoon. I think I’ll keep it though as I’ve not found anything yet that controls oil for a full day at work.

JDSTER · 14/12/2017 18:41

user thanks for review of becca primer. I’ve yet to find one that helps oil control. I’m the same, I use blotting sheets during the day. Any other primer you rate for pore hiding/smoothness? I’ve only really used Benefit, oh and an Avon one years ago that was good but they probably don’t sell the same one anymore.

olli sounds like your consultant knows you well and is fairly pragmatic Grin

Overrun with little bottles of decleor stuff from my advent calendar Confused

mintmagnummm · 14/12/2017 19:02

I really want to find a good base that I love!

Ollivander84 · 14/12/2017 19:32

JDSTER - he is mainly Hmm at me
"Now you are washing your bagged salad, fruit and veg?"
"Well I shared an apple with the horse yesterday so she licked it if that counts?"

But I'm the only person he sees with my condition so he's quite happy to let me do as I want!
