Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEWish since previous threads:

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

NEW since the last thread:

A Damaged Skin Barrier - Now What?

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

OCTOBER 2017: It's our snailaversary Cake! Our baby ripe toddler skins are about a year old now, or rather getting together on these threads about a year ago. I can't believe we're all still finding things to chat on about between the hair disasters. I know I always encourage a bit of catching up at the beginning of the new thread with how everyone's skin been progressing over the last couple of weeks/months but now I'm demanding more Blush and would really like to hear how everyone is doing a year on now, or however long you've been with us. Basically, pledge your undying love for these threads Grin

NB: I've removed the form from the OP as I felt there really wasn't a need for it anymore. I think I've also answered enough of those forms in their previous incarnation for a lifetime so it may just be a selfish decision but it's been made Halo

I've bumphed (technical term) up the front a bit and the waves are dropping, looks much better. Has been looking fairly good recently, just a shame the waves I used to love aren't working with it atm. Pfft, I'll stick a bobble hat on, it'll be fine.

Used a Sephora sheet mask last night. I know they aren't that special ingredients wise but skin looked perkier today. It was a green one, mattifying something or other.

I seem to remember that Versailles was a slow grower bo. I wasn't even sure I liked it for most of series 1. Some bits were very silly. I think series 2 is better than 1.

EnidButton · 08/12/2017 22:34

Plus they tone down the 'shock horror it's a bare bum and some boobs aren't we daring' thing after a few episodes. Grin

Ollivander84 · 08/12/2017 22:40

What colour is the Stila? I am corpse pale anyway Grin

botemp · 08/12/2017 22:46

Oh good, I'm a bit over the obligatory nudity in every single show. Nothing against it, it just seems overused. I'd say it's pretty daring these days if everyone keeps their clothes on. Anyhow, I'm sure it will be better than Reign which my cousin forced me to endure and made me want to stab my eyes out. I doubt Versailles is as silly about history as that show.

I've been sheetmasking too lately as my skin has not been enjoying the cold and central heating. I've been trying the Japanese trick of tossing them in the bath (still packaged of course) to warm up and then put on whilst in the bath which I really like. The preheating makes them much more comfortable to put on and it seems to soak up all of the excess serum into the mask so you get more. Win win.

EnidButton · 09/12/2017 01:11

A warm sheet mask sounds very nice. Good idea.

There's a lot of gratuitous nudity in Versailles btw.

mintmagnummm · 09/12/2017 08:50

@userallusedup thanks for that, I've not tried either of those products and I have a lot of love for eucerin at the moment! Loving their face cream, lip balm and hand cream! So may get the shampoo and tonic. Can I ask do you use the tonic on your scalp every time you wash your hair? I like the fact it says can be used on wet hair so as thinking I'll wash, condition and then apply the tonic on problem areas before drying. Do you have a favourite conditioner?

JDSTER · 09/12/2017 10:19

I’ve been following but not had a minute to sit down and post.

Hair chat first- I had a keratin blow dry this week. I’ve had them twice before and they do make my hair smoother and easier to blow dry. I’ll be having a trim and highlights in a couple of weeks.

Skincare wise I haven’t changed much. user you’ve inspired me to go back to differin. I’ve been trying to use up TO retinoid but it doesn’t seem to have an effect so I’m back to differin, which I haven’t used continuously yet. It does cause a bit of flakiness so I just need to be careful with moisturising well. Which eucerin urea moisturiser is it you’re using? I saw a few in Boots website and wasn’t sure so if you could link that would be great.

I’m still loving LRP toleriane in the morning (as long as I use HA beforehand in this cold weather) and double repair moisturiser at night. Also the LRP hydrating gentle cleanse is a good second cleanse at night. Leaves less of a ‘film’ than the dermo cleanse.

enid I am enjoying my new bathroom thank you. I have under sink drawers which house all my skincare in one, makeup in the other. I’ve got little dividers/compartment things so everything is very orderly!

pupsie I haven’t tried medik 8 Vit c yet. It’s in my fridge. I’m using up TO tube I have open but I will get round to using it and let you know. I noticed a salon near school does medik 8 facials and retails the products. I picked up their little catalogue of products (I love a catalogue Grin)

A good friend got me the decleor advent calendar. It’s lovely of course but not what I’d have chosen for my self (sounding ungrateful Blush). Body care stuff fine, a couple of facial oils I’ll use but I’m wary of moisturisers because I don’t want them to cause any break outs/clogging and I’m not sure about creams with essential oils layering over actives like Vit C. I know I’ve read you shouldn’t use oils after retinoid.

userallusedup · 09/12/2017 13:12

Mint I do use the scalp tonic every time I wash my hair and in between times too on dry hair - but I have a lot of thick, dry, frizzy hair that doesn’t get greasy and I only wash every 5 or 6 days. I use a garnier coconut hair mask and leave in oil on the lengths/ends but again these are specifically for dry, frizzy hair. I used to use more expensive brands but tbh I find the garnier stuff just as good, the things that make the main difference to me are not washing too often and not using hair dryers or heat styling unless I’m really, really pushed for time.

JDSTER your bathroom sounds great! I’m still using differin, I use it every night and rarely get flaking anymore so my skin tolerates it very well I’m just not sure it’s actually doing that much, though most of the reviews say it takes a good 3 months to have an effect so I’ll keep going.

The Eucerin I use is the 5% urea for face, it does say for dry skin but I’m oily/combo like you and have never had a problem with it, it absorbs really well and is fine under makeup.

mintmagnummm · 09/12/2017 13:37

Thanks user just bought the shamp and tonic so will let you know how I get on.

JDSTER i use that face cream that user linked to and I'm also combination, I really like it so far.

JDSTER · 09/12/2017 15:42

Thanks user and mint
user you sound like me “I’m not sure it’s actually doing that much” Grin

mintmagnummm · 09/12/2017 16:05

I ordered and just received the balm cosmetics Mary Lou highlighter (I'll use it as a shadow which it also says to use it for on packaging) I haven't tried it yet as had already done my make up when it arrived, but I tested the colour on back of my hand and it looks stunning! I hope I love it as much on my eyes! I might even use a tiny bit on my cheeks.

mintmagnummm · 09/12/2017 16:07

User is it you who also loves the Clinique power lash mascara? If so we seem to like the same products! So tell me what other products you use and love?

I'm still liking the ANR and am using it every other night at the moment

userallusedup · 09/12/2017 16:57

Mint no that’s not me Smile benefit roller lash is my holy grail mascara, I’ve not used anything from Clinique in years. Not sure why as I used a lot of their stuff in my 20s and early 30s, think I got distracted by so much choice when I started internet rather than RL shopping and just never went back.

I’m very dark (hair and eyes) with medium/sallow skin which is very different from your colouring I think? so makeup wise I don’t think what suits me would suit you. I do love IT cosmetics CC cream, Tarte tinted pressed mattifying powder and Tarte blusher and eyeshadow palettes. The rest of my stuff is a hotch potch of everything really, and I have way too much of it so half of it doesn’t even get get used Blush

mintmagnummm · 09/12/2017 17:33

User ooops sorry I thought it was you Blush. Yes your colourings sound the complete opposite to mine lol.
We do like the same face cream though Grin and hopefully I'll like the shampoo and tonic too! My scalp isn't at all happy at the moment, the latest culprit being lee Stafford bleach blondes daily shamp n cond.

mintleaves · 09/12/2017 21:21

Thanks User and Bo. I'll check out those serums and get some sheet masks for the plane. I feel extremely lucky and excited to get some winter sunshine; I have family who have moved there and who I haven't seen in a long time so have been saving up my leave to visit them.

botemp · 09/12/2017 21:59

I don't care either way much, Enid, it's just the very obvious 'look at us we're doing stuff in the nude no one's ever done that before' that bores me to tears.

mintleaves, I was thinking on the plane not so much hydrated related but if you have trouble sleeping the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray comes in a travel size and can be quite effective. Also, if you have very young children my parents used to wrap us small presents that we'd get to open every hour one by one that would preoccupy us for about an hour which can be quite helpful on such a long haul flight and make it go quicker, though at some point we usually fell asleep and completely forgot about the excitement of the next present.

Enjoy the winter sunshine, and be careful with it too. There are some great SPFs out there and they're quite cheap but don't ask me which ones.

SCAC day 9 (very late but I doubt anyone desperately was holding on for these offers): 40% off the skincare brand Dermaceutic and 50% off everything from glominerals.

OP posts:
EnidButton · 09/12/2017 22:22

Grin I feel the same. Like we've never seen a bum before.

I bought the Eucerin 5% replenishing cream today. Tested on hand, feels very nice and sinks in quickly. Good first impression. Hesitant to use on my face just yet. Seeing people at Christmas that I haven't seen for a long time so could do without any breakouts. I'm sure it'll be fine but going to wait until Boxing Day.

Feeling rather stressed out today. 😩

EnidButton · 09/12/2017 22:26

JD Envious of your new storage. Our bathroom is fine as I basically have the cupboard to myself but the en-suite really needs doing and desperately needs storage for DH's stuff. Maybe in the new year.

Ollivander84 · 09/12/2017 23:26

Ok this skin paste I'm testing is bizarre. Usually you can tell what something is but I have a feeling this is a brand new product. You use it a couple of times a week, put a layer on and then rub it in a few minutes later. Quite zinc oxide heavy and the texture is like either weleda skin food or sudocrem
But I woke up after using it and my blemishes were much less red Confused
V puzzling product!

mintmagnummm · 10/12/2017 07:00

Enid you got the one in the tube didn't you? Not the jar one.

mintmagnummm · 10/12/2017 07:01

Olli what is this skin paste

EnidButton · 10/12/2017 09:06

Yes Mint it's the one in the link upthread. Thank you. I don't think O saw a hat one actually. No Bioderma oil in our Boots either which was annoying. Probably cheaper online anyway,

EnidButton · 10/12/2017 09:07

*Don't think so saw a jar...

Typing with one eye shit due to headache.

EnidButton · 10/12/2017 09:07

Ooooh no. Shut not shit.

botemp · 10/12/2017 09:09
