Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEWish since previous threads:

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

NEW since the last thread:

A Damaged Skin Barrier - Now What?

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

OCTOBER 2017: It's our snailaversary Cake! Our baby ripe toddler skins are about a year old now, or rather getting together on these threads about a year ago. I can't believe we're all still finding things to chat on about between the hair disasters. I know I always encourage a bit of catching up at the beginning of the new thread with how everyone's skin been progressing over the last couple of weeks/months but now I'm demanding more Blush and would really like to hear how everyone is doing a year on now, or however long you've been with us. Basically, pledge your undying love for these threads Grin

NB: I've removed the form from the OP as I felt there really wasn't a need for it anymore. I think I've also answered enough of those forms in their previous incarnation for a lifetime so it may just be a selfish decision but it's been made Halo

Tant I bought an eyeshadow (single) today and a lippie on the weekend. There's another eyeshadow and lipstick I want too so may ask Santa 🎅😜

userallusedup · 05/12/2017 21:17

My bioderma shower oil has arrived in a mahoosive bottle! Didn’t realise I’d ordered a litre of it Shock But I’m looking forward to using it in the morning.

No sign of my kiko stuff, they use Yodel for deliveries so with their track record it could be weeks yet.

EnidButton · 05/12/2017 23:44

Shock User Hope you like it! It's that size that I'm getting next time.

Tantpoke · 06/12/2017 00:57

What base is everyone here using and liking?

Tantpoke · 06/12/2017 14:29

I'm glad you've asked that mint because I'm looking for a new lighter base too now that my skin is smoother, clearer and less red.

miffy2 · 06/12/2017 15:11

My favourite base for day to day is IT Cosmetics CC cream, it has spf 50 so it is good for reapplying...but I actually find it lasts most of the day, unlike other foundations. I use it in shade Light. Hard to get hold of though, not sure if they sell it in physical shops anywhere.
I also love Wet n Wild Photo Focus.

For going out or if I want a higher coverage I am enjoying alternating between YSL All hours (yes I caved on this one), Fenty (need to prep skin and blend very well) and the sample pot of BareMinerals BarePro.

mintmagnummm · 06/12/2017 15:15

Miffy I've wanted to try the IT cosmetics cc cream for ages! Where did you buy it from? Also what are the shades like? I'm a nw18-20 in Mac.
How are u getting on with the bare minerals one? That's another I've been thinking about. Sorry for all the questions 🤔

Tantpoke · 06/12/2017 15:34

miffy the IT CC cream sounds perfect as does the YSL all hours, I'm definitely going to look into them, thanks

miffy2 · 06/12/2017 17:52

I bought my latest tube on qvc but the first one I got on beautylish I think. I guessed my shade from looking at online review. Shade choice is not great, I too would be Mac 15-20 and I think ght Fair shade would have been too pale.I use powder over it if I want it to last all day as it is quite a dewy finish.

The BM is lovely, I tried 05 and 09 and settled on 09 but have not bought it yet as I have two matte foundations already. Love the YSL more than I thought I would, I got shade B30. It has a lot of denat alcohol in it which is one thing that put me off, but I only wear it at the weekends so it is not doing my skin too much harm.

Definitely get samples; I tried two shades with both BM and YSL.
Unfortunately when I bought the Fenty I believe I was given the wrong shade. It was just as they were launched and I was buying myself a birthday treat. The MUA talked about shade using 150 after colour-matching me, and I think that is then the one she applied, but I went home with 170. Too lazy to go back with it, I made do, and in reality I think the difference is minimal but I also think it is just a liiiitle too dark for winter use.

userallusedup · 06/12/2017 18:51

I use the IT cosmetics cc cream too, I get mine from qvc as they often have good value sets or throw in a brush for a couple of extra £. And they have a 30 day MBG (currently extended to jan 25th to allow for Christmas present purchases) if you don’t get on with it. There’s loads on eBay too, I think a lot of sellers buy the kits from qvc and split to sell individually so if you don’t want other bits or a brush might be worth a look.

I have oily skin and I find it lasts well, though I do use a mattifying powder and touch up with that during the day, but it lasts as well as anything else I’ve tried and is not claggy or clingy to dry patches and gives good coverage without being mask like.

I was using medium mixed with a tiny bit of tan, as medium was a bit too pink for me, but they have a medium tan shade now which is perfect, can’t comment on the paler shades though. There’s lots of reviews on qvc and video demos which might help with shade choices, also loads of reviews and photos/videos on Sephora and Ulta.

Enid I love the bioderma shower oil, it was a pleasure to use and really soothing on dry skin. And no skidding in the shower either! Thank you very much for the recommendation and I’m glad I got the litre now Smile

No sign of the Kiko stuff arriving, it’s not even with yodel yet according to their tracker.

I’ve just ordered a Becca primer from qvc, meant to be mattifying, but watery texture rather than siliconey so thought it was worth a try with the extended mbg as it’s free p&p too.

mintmagnummm · 06/12/2017 19:13

Miffy can u tell me more about the BM please, texture, coverage etc

mintmagnummm · 06/12/2017 21:24

Oh crap I've just seen that the BM has that cylo shit silicone right at top of ingredients list 🤦🏼‍♀️

miffy2 · 06/12/2017 21:48

Now I want to try the Bioderma shower oil too :) :)

mint, the BM BP is quite watery. It goes on like a dream, has a satin finish (on me anyway) and they have a very broad range. My two sample pots are so similar looking but quite different once on the face. Coverage is quite full but it feels light on the skin if you get me. Definitely worth getting samples of. There is a fabulous girl in my house of fraser who knows her stuff and matched me perfectly. She also says that she can get away with using 4/5 of the shades, depending on the look she is going for, makeup-wise. I thought 09 was a bit yellow-toned at first but it looks perfect on. I am definitely going to get it soon. I also use their cleansing oil and I have a serum that I use occasionally and have to say I am very impressed. Their lash domination mascara is on my new wish list too, hoping to get one with vouchers after Christmas.

EnidButton · 06/12/2017 22:08

Oh good User! Pleased you like it. Good job when you've bought a year's supply. Grin

miffy2 · 06/12/2017 22:11

Oops, I typed my reply before I saw your last comment. Sorry :(

mintmagnummm · 07/12/2017 06:31

Oooh tell me more about this shower oil?! Does it foam at all like the loccitane almond shower oil?

mintmagnummm · 07/12/2017 13:06

Anyone here with sensitive skin get on well with the Lancôme teint idole 24hr foundation? Have heard such good things about this but the fragrance concerns me 🤔

botemp · 07/12/2017 13:25

SCAC day 8: 30% off Peter Thomas Roth

Mint I tried it and whilst lovely the fragrance was irritating for me.

Ollivander84 · 07/12/2017 15:31

I have a "skin paste" to test Confused
Instructions are to use 2-3 times a week, apply, leave and rub excess in
If I ever find out what the product is I will let you know!

EnidButton · 07/12/2017 15:40

mint Bioderma oil does foam a bit if you use it with a shower puff thing. Have used hands and it didn't foam much at all then. I like the foaming though, stops it just pouring off. It's quite gentle. There is some fragrance in it so you might have to check that. It's subtle.

mintmagnummm · 07/12/2017 15:50

Yes bo I think it will be irritating for me too as it's quite a strong smell.

Enid I'm fine with fragrance on my body, may give this a try. I didn't like the bioderma shower gel (blue one) but the oil sounds nice. I've still got 3 soaper super body washes to use first 😂

EnidButton · 07/12/2017 15:54

Ooh haven't tried those. I love the vanilla soap so will add them to the list.
