Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEWish since previous threads:

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

NEW since the last thread:

A Damaged Skin Barrier - Now What?

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

OCTOBER 2017: It's our snailaversary Cake! Our baby ripe toddler skins are about a year old now, or rather getting together on these threads about a year ago. I can't believe we're all still finding things to chat on about between the hair disasters. I know I always encourage a bit of catching up at the beginning of the new thread with how everyone's skin been progressing over the last couple of weeks/months but now I'm demanding more Blush and would really like to hear how everyone is doing a year on now, or however long you've been with us. Basically, pledge your undying love for these threads Grin

NB: I've removed the form from the OP as I felt there really wasn't a need for it anymore. I think I've also answered enough of those forms in their previous incarnation for a lifetime so it may just be a selfish decision but it's been made Halo

I saw the 3 for 2 in boots for skincare but I didn't even go in as had my son with me and he gets fed up with me 😏🙄. But it's usually on for a while so may go and get the avene extremely gentle cleanser, more eucerin and more avene anti ageing spf 50.
I took advantage of that offer on the ANR yesterday too, didn't realise it came in a set with a free mini ANR eye cream which feels lovely and a mini moisturiser (which I won't use)

Ollivander84 · 23/11/2017 18:08

Massive discounts on some sets on the deciem website

Dreamqueen · 23/11/2017 18:40

Tried to order from Deciem. The site has crashed midway through processing my payment.

Dreamqueen · 23/11/2017 18:56

Order has processed. So happy.

JDSTER · 23/11/2017 18:57

Just coming on to highlight deciem reductions-also on VH website.
Pestle and mortar have 20% off everything. I know some people really like retinol oil and HA from them

Dreamqueen · 23/11/2017 18:57

Thank you for info Ollivander84

userallusedup · 23/11/2017 19:15

I wanted to get a couple of hand chemistry sets from Deciem (with the hand chemistry and retinoil) but could not even get them to show up in my basket never mind check out. Went over to Victoria Health, same offers on and checked out no problems though it is a pre-order so might take a while to arrive.

I’m trying to steer clear of all the other deals as I really don’t need anything.

miffy2 · 23/11/2017 21:11

I ordered Chemistry brand Retinoil oil (body) on asos with 20% off and got some bits in L'Occitane (Almond body milk, cherry blossom shower gel and some baubles for gifts).
Recent ebay purchases that I am waiting on include Dr Jart Ceramidin cream and Belif True something or other bomb cream (?? CBA looking it up). Another 🐑 here...and gutted I missed out the ANR half price set, for some reason I thought it would be on Wednesday, saw it the other day but it was gone when I went to check out.

My Target order finally arrived after I had given up on Gosend ever getting it to me...vanicream cleanser, LRP Double Repair back up and Pixi hydrating mist for a lot less than I can get it here. Looking forward to cleaning my face tonight!

miffy2 · 23/11/2017 21:18

Has anybody used any of the Inhibitif serums by Deciem? Of course I am now googling all of the products in the (fairly decent) offer bundles on VH LOL

Ollivander84 · 23/11/2017 21:19

Forgot to say TK Maxx had loads of eve lom foundations in if anyone likes it. None in my pale blue shade sadly!

botemp · 23/11/2017 21:21

I'm just watching on sensitive skincare basics and she has some fantastic news. LRP has decided to reintroduce/not discontinue the Toleriane Fluide! We have influence people because surely it must be all down to this thread Grin

I'm with you on ignoring the deals, user. Last year there really wasn't anything interesting and I'm not in desperate need of anything. I have a few things that I might buy if they're discounted enough but probably not going to happen and better off waiting for the January sales.

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 23/11/2017 21:25

I've avoided about 98% of them Grin
Beauty bay I went for as I needed more vanilla bean eyeshadow so made sense to buy while on offer
Office - I bought the UGG Wilcox boots
Boohoo - 3 tops in my new smaller size!

miffy2 · 23/11/2017 21:35

Re Black Friday, I find it good if you know what you need/want as I am beyond useless at trawling the real, proper, everything-out-on-rails sales. I like a sizeable chunk taken off the general stock and price, thank you very much. And if I can do it from the comfort of my home even better.

However I am trying to stick to my list (got a couple of Amazon Echos for family presents, clothes on River Island for my DD, my small asos order and a couple of jewellery bits from Mango...for gifts too). I may treat myself to a jumper in Mint Velvet, or biker boots if my size comes back in stock, and 'let' DH give them to me for Christmas Grin and I will get him some sportswear from Superdry as he loves it and it washes amazingly well.

  • That is great news about the LRP TF!
BagelGoesWalking · 23/11/2017 23:49

I got the Sanskrit Saponins for £8 plus shipping. I think it's probably going to be better for my daughter's more oily skin. Whether she'll try it is another matter as it's supposed to smell quite weird.

She's bloody stubborn and expects instant results. I bought her the Cosrx pimple patches but she's resisting using them. So frustrating!

Sorry for the rant but it's so annoying knowing things I think will help her, double cleansing etc but knowing she won't listen to me. I know it's because she tried a few things that I suggested - Niacinamide made it worse, Azelaic Acid was working well, imo, but then she decided it was clogging so stopped. Now she's so fed up I know she won't be receptive to me going on about another "wonder" product.

Any ideas, wise ones?

Ollivander84 · 24/11/2017 00:31

Get her to watch Sam bunting? Or would "abandoning" that cleanser in the bathroom work? Along with "don't use it, it's too expensive"
Yes, I was a PITA teen Grin

mintmagnummm · 24/11/2017 07:30

Right I need help with my next mission hopefully possible! I need a shampoo and conditioner! Pleeeeeease can someone recommend any that are not extortionately priced and not too hard to get hold of. I'm sure by now all of you know my hair type and requirements lol but just incase.....my hair is coloured and I have some highlights, it's quite coarse and frizzy but not thick. I need something that cleans really well as I tend to get buildup easily despite not using styling products and I have to wash daily really otherwise my scalp flares up. So I need something that cleans well but doesn't strip and something hydrating/repairing that isn't heavy. Grin

botemp · 24/11/2017 08:11

mint, I like using the Avene Xeracalm cleansing oil as a precleanse shampoo. It's not enough on its own to clean my hair but I only wash every 5 days or so. It's nice because it doesn't strip your scalp of natural oils or hydration at all (it's for eczema prone skin really). Maybe it could work for you as an every other day shampoo or as a precleanse as I use it? Or perhaps you can try the body cleansing oil that you bought recently, I think, was it Eucerin or another?

OP posts:
mintmagnummm · 24/11/2017 08:18

Thanks bo what about actual shampoos and conditioners though? I don't tend to get on well with pre cleansing my hair and it doesn't seem to like oils. It wasn't me who bought a body oil recently, must have me mixed up with someone.

While I'm on the subject of recommendations, does anyone know a good bronze eyeliner without red tones (I'm a fair skinned strawberry blonde) there's a kiko one called pearly bronze, has anyone tried?

JDSTER · 24/11/2017 09:02

bagel I saw the Sanskrit saponins for that price but I’ve already got one stashed away so resisted. The tube probably isn’t user friendly for your daughter- you don’t need much. I’ve used it before and I like the smell. It reminds me of coffee grounds. Anyway, I hope she likes it.
bo good news on toleriane.

mintmagnummm · 25/11/2017 06:58

It's very quiet on here, hope everyone is ok.

botemp · 25/11/2017 08:57

My attention is spread over a few threads at the moment, mint, and I'm not very helpful on the shampoo and conditioner front, I'm afraid.

I always use more expensive stuff because I look like I've been tonguing an electric socket with any more affordable shampoo I've tried. I really don't like tossing things out unused so I just tend to stick with brands that work for me and offer samples. I don't wash my hair all that much so I'm buying a bottle a year usually so it doesn't really come up all that expensive for me, but very different if you're a daily user.

OP posts:
mintmagnummm · 25/11/2017 09:25

No worries bo thank you

Tsmummy08 · 25/11/2017 09:25

Mint I'm sure we were all just furiously deleting hundreds of Black Friday emails the entire day - or glued to the deals! I didn't get anything beauty related but did order a couple of catsuits in anticipation of next year's festivals Glitterball

botemp · 25/11/2017 09:31

Isn't there some fight club rule that we do not talk about Black Friday on any day that isn't Black Friday? I'm mostly saying that this is a known thing whilst making it up on the spot as I don't really want to be questioned on said purchases Wink No beauty items though, but maybe Cyber Monday will change that, I need some French Pharmacy things but not with any urgency.

I'm wildly curious about catsuits though, where'd you find those Ts?
