Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEWish since previous threads:

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

NEW since the last thread:

A Damaged Skin Barrier - Now What?

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

OCTOBER 2017: It's our snailaversary Cake! Our baby ripe toddler skins are about a year old now, or rather getting together on these threads about a year ago. I can't believe we're all still finding things to chat on about between the hair disasters. I know I always encourage a bit of catching up at the beginning of the new thread with how everyone's skin been progressing over the last couple of weeks/months but now I'm demanding more Blush and would really like to hear how everyone is doing a year on now, or however long you've been with us. Basically, pledge your undying love for these threads Grin

NB: I've removed the form from the OP as I felt there really wasn't a need for it anymore. I think I've also answered enough of those forms in their previous incarnation for a lifetime so it may just be a selfish decision but it's been made Halo

I have been trying different eye creams recently, both new.

Verso Retinol - limited to x2 per week now
Kiehl's avocado (AM) for hydration
I also have one from Aldi, the Cuvee range, again for hydration in the morning.

Honestly it is more than likely hereditary. I asked the dermatologist about it and she said the only real solution was surgery so that is a no go for now anyway. She also recommends sleeping with two pillows, saying that can help drain the area. I really need to get looking into facial massage as I suffer from sinus issues and I reckon that could help the sinus and also the eye swelling.

Pupsie I am one of the people using the LRP Double Repair. I really like it but have been avoiding using it in the AM in conjunction with Vitamin C as it contains niacinamide so was keeping for PM...is this correct or was it just for TO C products? I would love to use it in the AM as I think it would be perfect - hydrating but not greasy. The tube is a bit of a pain as it is quite wide but difficult to squeeze product out. Small complaint though :) I have a second tube on the way from Target via the Gosend forwarding service (aka super-snail mail)

EnidButton · 20/11/2017 22:50

pupsie Cherry Juice is this one. www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/cherry-active-ltd-concentrate-60098065 Just realised they do a slightly cheaper one but I was desperate and just grabbed the first I saw. It has helped my foot enormously. Thanks JD. More than the painkillers were. No pain today. Plus I love cherries so it’s nice as a drink anyway. No idea if it is actually beneficial to skin or anything else but if anyone has RA or gout I can recommend trying it. Seems to help sleep a bit too but that might be because I mix it with hot water in the evenings.

JDSTER · 20/11/2017 23:17

pupsie I’m using LRP double repair moisturiser. I really like it. I’m using it at night, richer than toleriane that I use in the morning but still light enough for my combo/oily skin. Like pupsie using vit C in the morning so avoiding using it then (although I really like toleriane in a.m) I like the addition of niacinamide, supposedly good for pores, and possibly pores are less noticeable (or maybe my eyesight worse).

EnidButton · 20/11/2017 23:18

Wish they’d hurry up and bring it out here. Wonder why it’s availabke in the US but not the UK. Seems odd.

Ollivander84 · 21/11/2017 00:36

30% off the hero project too, until 27th Nov
I'm sure I will be posting more as my inbox keeps popping up offers!

Ollivander84 · 21/11/2017 02:26

< sits on credit card >

miffy2 · 21/11/2017 08:26

Ooh Olli, I am torn between the toasted tartelette palette and the Too Faced peaches one (the new release) - hoping for a decent discount for either one this week :). I have the Tartelette in Bloom palette and love it. I shall sit on my slightly warm credit card and wait with you.

Tsmummy08 · 21/11/2017 12:50

Flowers Olli - sorry to hear about your job and here's hoping you find something better very soon x

And congrats to you Mint :)

I'm another LRP Double repair user who also avoids using it in the morning due to vit C. It's lovely, quite rich but not greasy.

I'm definitely loving the NYR Rose oil, perfect for my skin at the moment!

On a side note, we are looking to add a new doggie to our family soon (our 14 yr old died in January), which is v exciting! Doing lots of research trying to figure out the best type for our family, whilst attempting not to get distracted by cute puppies Grin

EnidButton · 21/11/2017 17:41

Very exciting TS! Let us know how you get on. Sorry about the loss of your lovely dog. We went through that in August and it was heartbreaking. Not ready for another yet but maybe next year. I love dogs.

No skincare reports. Just getting frustrated with online shopping. Everything I've ordered lately has come with some kind of flaw or damage. Standards are going down the pan.

BagelGoesWalking · 21/11/2017 21:58

Info regarding Black Friday deals on some K beauty websites. Don't know how shipping is - I know some will mark down value of order to get past customs.

You can tell its winter, my legs are super dry. Any recommendations for a super body lotion, I go on a cruise at Christmas and don't want to look like I have snake legs!!!

botemp · 22/11/2017 10:06

Baby oil over wet legs just out of the shower is the quickest remedy emma. The Eucerin Urea BL or Cream are also good. More luxe is the Kiehl's Creme de Corps which gives that added healthy sheen to limbs which is nice when you're actually on holiday. The LRP Lipikar BL with Niacinamide is also good. Personally I'd do oil in the morning, and BL at night and dry brushing once or twice a week.

Slightly related, how are those who bought into the Korean Italy towels get on with them?

emma8t4 · 22/11/2017 10:58

Thanks Bo I think I've got some baby oil at the back of the bathroom cabinet, i'll give it a go.

EnidButton · 22/11/2017 13:13

emma Bioderma Atoderm shower oil is very good. I'd use that in the shower and then do as bo suggested with the oil after you get out. Go belt and braces on it. Grin

I like an oily body scrub before a shower too. Soap & Glory sugar crush one is oily and very scrubby.

Adding creme de corps to my
Christmas list. Keep forgetting to get some.

BagelGoesWalking · 22/11/2017 14:37

Just received the Rosette Ceramide Gel all the way from Japan. Patch testing on one cheek. My god! I only used a smidgen on the teensy tiny spatula that comes with it but it spreads very well, feels lovely and cooling.

Might try the Apieu Madecassoside Gel at a later date, which also has nice ingredients- any views on these two, Botemp?

Apologies if I've already asked. Can't remember if I have or not!

mintmagnummm · 22/11/2017 14:42

I bought the Clinique lash power (the tubing one) and I like it :-)

Ollivander84 · 22/11/2017 15:06

I can't recommend the coffee type dry body scrubs enough for scaly legs. eBay has loads, they're like a powder type but clumpy as have oils in them too. Use in the shower as v messy!
Boots sell the grounded range of powder scrubs which I've tried and are lovely, I've also used scrub love ones

Pupsiecola · 22/11/2017 15:33

JDSTER thank you for my ANR mini which arrived today; too cute, and perfect for xmas skiing :-)

Pupsiecola · 22/11/2017 18:18

Just doing my order for US delivery for DH to bring back next week. Would you order the LRP Double Repair normal, or the one with SPF30? I'm thinking one of each. 6 dollars difference. Would SPF30 be enough for winter? I'm thinking so...

BagelGoesWalking · 22/11/2017 18:51

Repurchased Sensitive Micellar water for my DD and 1st order for their mascara after watching French Justine video (god, I'm such a 🐑). I blame Botemp 😬** Did 2 orders as I forgot the mascara 1st time so I've got 6 samples altogether!

33% off La Roche Posay products on their website. You can also choose 3 free samples when you get to checkout. Free delivery too!

Tantpoke · 22/11/2017 20:40

Sorry to hear about your job Olli

My skin is so dry at the moment as well, I have just been layering up the moisture tonight, it looks so thin and papery which it never usually does, its usually fairly elastic. I really must drink more water.

I bit the bullet and shaved my pesky under the chin hair today, it was quite liberating and very neccessary after the sunlight caught them in the mirror, I was horrified, I wont lie, so I put a new blade in my razor and dry shaved them akin to dermablading.

It was fine, the world didn't end and I didnt sprout a big bushy beard so all good for now Hmm

We shall see I can't undo it now but life's to short for continual plucking.

I tend to use the body shop body butter when my legs are feeling dry or the Nuxe huille prodigeuse oil (but thats mainly if I'm off out on a summers evening)

botemp · 23/11/2017 12:52

I don't know the Apieu Bagel, it seems to be the brand of the season in kbeauty at the moment.

The rosette gel is solid. Only reason I never bought it was because it was ridiculously priced up on eBay. I see Amazon JP has it now so may try it in the future. It's supposed to be a life saver for very oily skin who wrecked their skin barrier but can't tolerate the cream based ceramides saviour like Cerave and Eucerin.

Emma, Enid makes a good point about the shower product. I tend to forget that not everyone shares my dislike of shower gels, so switching to an oil cleanser from one of the French pharmacy brands is great too. I like the Avene xeracalm and have used the LRP Lipikar one as well.

I paid about £12, I think. It will last for ages as only a tiny amount is needed. I have a very dry/dehydrated skin which doesn't like heavy, occlusive creams so this seems perfect for me.

Pyunkang Essence toner, Scinic All in One ampoule and the Rosette. So grateful for this thread, Gothamista videos and the Ordinary FB group which has led me to these 3 products. Would never have found out about them otherwise.

JDSTER · 23/11/2017 16:20

Went shopping today - everywhere packed. 3 for 2 on skincare at boots so got 3 bioderma micellar for removing eye makeup olli I don’t like that aloe vera gel one, it stings my eyes- only £2 though so not the end of the world. Una Brennan 20% off so got a face wash for sil. Kiko have buy 3 cosmetics get 3 free. Only wanted a mascara for a friends daughter but rude not to take advantage of a good offer Grin. I got eyebrow mascaras, pressed powder, blotting papers and the mascara.

Ollivander84 · 23/11/2017 16:32

Oh no Sad at least it was cheap. Weird how skins and eyes react so differently

Nip/fab kale fix moisturiser - £4. Usually £20
EO clarifying tea tree conditioner (curly girl safe, no silicones or drying alcohols)
