This Fossil bag, yay or nay?

I've been searching for the perfect medium sized crossbody bag for an age and I managed to get this Fossil one for the bargain price of £55 in a local sale. I love the quality and the simplicity of it - I'll be able to wear it as a clutch, for smarter work wear or casually. But is it a little bit 'blah'? I usually carry things like Scaramanga satchels and vintage Mulberry and my style is (to quote DH) 'goth Nigella' (I'm not really that goth. Honest. Just an ex goth Grin).

Any opinions or experiences of Fossil bags? It's not a brand I've ever owned but I've hankered after some of their bags (including this one!) for a while.

TIA!

I’m a massive Fossil fan too however the last 2 bags I’ve bought have marked so much they look incredibly tatty.
Have sent the latest back and have had a full refund.

FlyingSoloFlyingFree · 30/09/2017 07:51

I'm impressed with how much you can fit in! I'm another Fossil lover, they're the perfect halfway between high street and designer and imo pretty good quality. I currently only have one but I'm going to be near Bicester Village next week where they have an outlet...

Bugger. Now I've seen it in the Cabernet colour but obviously that's not on sale anywhere. Will it fit one nappy, a small pack of wipes and some Lego mini figures? And I should probably put my purse in too.

Acornantics · 30/09/2017 08:17

Gah! You lot! I LOVE Fossil bags, I have two which I bought in the USA and now you've got me thinking about needing more!

They're the best aren't they? Beautiful leather, classic styles with a bit of quirk, amazing colours. And they stand the test of time with small children and lots of wear.

CanIBuffalo · 30/09/2017 08:24

I bought the Emma tote in black for less than £70 at a Fossil outlet. I love the bag but the straps could be a bit longer and more comfy. I carry a fair bit of weight in mine though.

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/09/2017 08:38

I had a lovely Fossil bag, but unfortunately the cat pissed all over it and it had to be thrown out. That one was like the Tardis too - it looked small but held a huge amount of crap.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 30/09/2017 09:08

I am dying to know what goth nigella clothes are like! It sounds very cool. Can you post a link to something you'd wear?

QuimJongUn · 30/09/2017 09:23

@taybert there are a couple of cabernet ones on eBay at the moment, BNWT, for about £50/£60. I am sorely tempted myself... Also seriously hankering after the Austin range (nope, not been bag lusting/Googling at all). There's a large saddle bag and a convertible clutch both in tan currently on eBay and they are delicious. I'm a sucker for unlined leather!

I think you'd be OK with the nappy etc - depends on how big your purse is. It really is a total Tardis - I managed to get a brolly in there too earlier.

@FlyingSoloFlyingFree that bag is absolutely gorgeous!

@MrsSchadenfreude oh no! I'd have been tempted to throw the cat out too

Good to hear that (in the main) they wear well. I can't stop stroking little Emma. I haven't loved a bag this much since I got my first Mulberry a decade ago, and that cost ten times as much!

I want a Piper Toast bag in black but they are teeny. Don't really need one.

PrimalLass · 30/09/2017 09:25

Toaster

PNGirl · 30/09/2017 09:26

I really want a Sydney satchel but they are discontinued. :(

PrimalLass · 30/09/2017 09:28

Wish they would make this one bigger.

@MaryLennoxsScowl in my dreams, the less pastelly dresses from The Vampire's Wife, Susie Bick's (wife of Nick Cave) line. Good lord they are beautiful, as is she. However as a size 16 (down from a 24 at Easter, hopefully I'll be a 14 by Christmas) clothes like that look more Nigella on me, hence DH's observation Grin I actually do really like some of Nigella's more eveningy looks - I have dresses similar to both of these.

PNGirl eBay is brilliant for discontinued bags. I sound like I'm on a commission from eBay don't I!

PrimalLass that is gorgeous. I really love the Campbell crossbody too, but that's a bit small for me.

A daft question probably but if you buy a Burgundy Bag what colour of shoes would you wear? Does a Tan coloured bag mean Tan coloured shoes as well. It did when I was starting out on shoes and handbags decades ago and to be honest I'd like to just buy a lovely bag without thinking - oh Ive no shoes to go with it. Granted I could buy shoes but I have very large feet and have to get my shoes sent from the States. I think I'd die if I was ever able to buy anything other than a neutral colour.

QuimJongUn · 30/09/2017 09:45

Cariad it wouldn't even occur to me to match my bag and shoes - my bags are either neutrals like black and tan, or rich colours like forest green or burgundy. Shoes-wise anything goes - my current go-to pairs are black biker-style knee high boots for day, burgundy velvet ballet shoes and wine Victorian-style ankle boots with a heel. I wear whatever bag I fancy with any of them - it's more how the bag looks with the outfit as a whole iyswim. Although your way of doing things does sound enviably groomed, something I long to be but never quite achieve!

Where did you get the bag from at such a good price @QuimJongUn?

Acornantics · 30/09/2017 09:56

I have a cobalt blue Fossil cross body bag and because it's so bright, I think it goes with everything from black to grey and browns. I don't like matching shoes and bag on me, happy to clash.

ilovecherries · 30/09/2017 09:56

Remus, I bought the small Harper in tan a few weeks ago. Haven't used it yet because it's smaller than I expected so I need to be selective about what goes in it, and the leather seems a little vulnerable. So far I've just stroked it.

QuimJongUn · 30/09/2017 09:59

@Jermajesty it was on a sort of odds and sods rail of the very last of the sale bags at my local John Lewis. They also had a Kendall crossbody which was about £70 iirc and I was sorely tempted, but it was just a little bit too small and also a little shop-worn. Mine was perfect though!

Thank you for explaining its ok to not match bag and shoes.

And to be honest matching them is now making me feel nothing but old and frumpy. This well groomed malarky is highly overrated at times.

QuimJongUn · 30/09/2017 10:15

Not at all! I always envy women who look so 'together' - matching nails and lips and only wearing one colour metal (yellow gold or platinum for example) are other examples. I think it looks very elegant. My 'style' (if you can call it that) is far too chaotic to pull it off though!

Bloody good find!!
I’m now happily perusing the Fossill website. So thanks!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/09/2017 10:59

Cherries - agree on both counts. It is v small and does look as if it will scratch. I'm taking it out today with just purse, phone and lipstick in, to buy some protector stuff.

taybert · 30/09/2017 12:45

You're right Quim I do need a new purse too. That's what you said isn't it?
