This Fossil bag, yay or nay?

I've been searching for the perfect medium sized crossbody bag for an age and I managed to get this Fossil one for the bargain price of £55 in a local sale. I love the quality and the simplicity of it - I'll be able to wear it as a clutch, for smarter work wear or casually. But is it a little bit 'blah'? I usually carry things like Scaramanga satchels and vintage Mulberry and my style is (to quote DH) 'goth Nigella' (I'm not really that goth. Honest. Just an ex goth Grin).

Any opinions or experiences of Fossil bags? It's not a brand I've ever owned but I've hankered after some of their bags (including this one!) for a while.

TIA!

I love it but it doesn’t look like it holds very much. Fossil bags are NICE.

Caulkheadupnorf · 29/09/2017 19:46

Fossil bags are lovely but I think that one is too small.

QuimJongUn · 29/09/2017 19:47

@Bobbins43 it's like a bloody Tardis! I put my stuff in earlier to see what it could hold and I managed to fit in my Kindle, purse, phone, two pairs of glasses in their cases, buss pass, mirror, a Paperblanks diary, 30ml perfume bottle plus all the usual keys, pens, lipsticks, painkillers etc. It's sooo squashy, you can pack loads in!

Xpost Caulk, see above Grin

So the consensus is that Fossil bags are lovely then?!

Here you go, took this earlier to show DD how much it could hold. Still has the tissue paper on it until I decide whether I'm keeping it!

I love a Fossil bag!! Would much rather that than any other brand. And I'm a handbag snob!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 29/09/2017 19:55

You're showing off about how much you can get in it... :) I like it. Understated (and a bit classy).

Caulkheadupnorf · 29/09/2017 19:56

Wow. Well I retract my post about its size. Buy away!

CountFosco · 29/09/2017 20:02

Love fossil bags. Keep it.

QuimJongUn · 29/09/2017 20:07

So that's a yes then Grin

DD just said 'Are you mad? Keep it!'

Pretty unanimous all told!

I have to say, the quality is absolutely beautiful. Makes some of the more modern Mulberrys I've had look almost cheap in comparison. The leather is to die for and it smells amazing!

I have three Fossils and I nearly bought another at the weekend (Campbell crossbody). I've got 2 Mulberrys, a Scaramanga and a Cambridge satchel, and a Coach but the Fossils always stay in rotation. Keep it!

QuimJongUn · 29/09/2017 20:23

Caulk that is beautiful. That Cabernet colour is stunning. I think you might just have solved DH's annual Christmas present for me torment Grin

PNGirl you're my bag twin! I have a Cambridge satchel too, as well as the Mulberrys and Scaramangas.

Does Fossil leather wear well? Is it good in the rain? I've had so many heart-in-mouth moments with my oak Mulberrys in sudden downpours!

I've got this bag and love it! I got the free personalisation from fossil as well. It is a great bag. Good size for day, hands free with the cross body and good size for night / evenings out as very neat. I use it practically every day and I too have mulberry, coach and radley bags etc

Caulkheadupnorf · 29/09/2017 20:28

I'm in hospital feeling sorry for myself after surgery a couple of days ago. Buying that bag has cheered me right up. Now just to get the strength and energy to actually use it out and about!

Bobbins43 · 29/09/2017 20:31

Oh, bloody hell, now I want one.

PNGirl · 29/09/2017 20:35

I always use protector spray and have never had issues. Any colour transfer from jeans has always come off with clear leather cream as well. I haven't babied mine particularly. They don't make it now but my favourite is this one in burgundy,

Good shout. Fossil bags are my favourite.

QuimJongUn · 29/09/2017 20:46

@Caulkheadupnorf oh no! I hope you're fighting fit again soon. I find a new bag is always the perfect pick-me-upper 😀

@PNGirl I've got some Colonil from my Mulberrys knocking about somewhere, I'll dig it out. That bag you linked is just gorgeous, and I love burgundy leather. It looks like the perfect size, too.

Hmmm, I feel a new bag brand obsession coming on!

I will be so much better then I get home to a new bag!

Well done OP for aiding my recovery!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/09/2017 20:51

It's beautiful and what a bargain.

I've just bought this in tan. It's beautiful but a bit smaller than I thought it was. Haven't used it yet, so will have to see if mine can become a Tardis too!

What protector stuff do people use?

taybert · 29/09/2017 21:04

Now then, I saw this bag ages ago on my quest for a new cross body bag with a top zip and ruled it out because I thought it was too small. I didn't realise it was a tardis!

QuimJongUn · 29/09/2017 22:24

@Caulkheadupnorf Glad to be of service 😉😊

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I use Colonil but the Kiwi protector you can get at Tesco is just as good - I use it when I've run out of the Colonil.

@taybert It's currently £69 on Very (I haven't been googling Fossil bags all evening, oh no...)
