Why does my waist measurement not corrospond with the clothes that actually fit me?

Apparently, I should be in jeans 3 or 4 sizes bigger than the ones I am wearing.

I tried buying bigger jeans, under the influence on 'jeans that are too tight make you look fatter'

but they fall off.

Why is this happening? Why don't I seem to have a waist? My hips and waist are the same size, I measured them, is this merely a result of having babies and being overweight - why does everyone else my waist size have a bum to match? I look like a porky bloke with boobs - not happy!

Womens clothes are not cut right for me at all

I sympathise I have trouble finding well fitting jeans because I have a high waist so hipsters literally skim my bum i'm so glad higher waists are coming back into fashion.

colditz · 31/03/2007 20:42

snap, I have a high waist too, and combined with odd figure, low rise jeans simply fall off my bottom.

Sympathise deeply Colditz..its the bloody sizing - its all out to cock..I'm a size 16 in one shop which helps my ego no end and then in another I ended up having to go up to a 20 to get a top to fit and my norks aren't even that impressive!!!

Have you also noticed the worrying amount of size 6's on display too...really think this getting to a size zero lark is starting to take off!!

colditz · 31/03/2007 20:44

Exactly - I try on size 18 trousers - jiggle a bit - they fall off. So I try size 16, they stay up, feel cmfortable - I read the sizing guide and apparently I should be wearing a size 24/26

er, no

wtf?

same here colditz,if I was to buy jeans according to the size chart they would fall down to my ankles. Some shops I am a 14 others an 18???Weird.
My problem is a flat arse though.

colditz · 31/03/2007 20:46

i think clothes are actually getting bigger, but the sizing chartys arn't

So they need to make more size 6 for the people who used to be a size 8 - their still measuring at a size 8, but the clothes are falling off.

I think it's supposed to be flattering but it just pisses me off.

I've borrowed a pair of jeans from my bf they're from Next. I don't normally buy clothes from there but they are fab, waist just the right height and very, very flattering.

colditz · 31/03/2007 20:47

hmmm

Inside leg on them? I need a 30

You know, pre DS I used to think I was fat....in retrospect, I was actually nicely curvy and now, if I could just go back to that old figure - I would never complain about it again!!!! Clothes shopping now is just a depressing necessity...I end up buying stuff for DS cos I know that will fit!!

Also, is it me or are those changing room lights really harsh on the thighs?!!! Makes my cellulite look like a pot-holers holiday challenge!!!

brimfull · 31/03/2007 20:49

I find peacock jeans fit quite well and bloody cheap too!
They do a short fitting too as I am 30inside leg aswell.

colditz · 31/03/2007 20:50

I don't look at myself until the clothes are on. Otherwise i don't feel like buying anything anyway.

Also the measurements they put on their sizes are bollocks According to their website Dorothy Perkins size 14 jeans are supposed to be as small (or smaller can't rememebr off hand) than River island and in reality RI are well smaller. I find Dorothy perkin's Jean sizes to be really generous compared to other shops standard sizes.

colditz · 31/03/2007 20:50

I like peacocks jeans, but all the short leg ones vanish quickly

I can honestly say my hips are a size 8, my waist a 10-12 and my non-boobs a 10 - well in gap I am a zero............anything bigger is huge. It is the shops they have altered their styles etc so you fit into smaller sizes.

I am stuffed I am apple rather than pear shaped so have to wear hipster things otherwise the hips are huge to enable me to get stuff fastened around my waise. I was an apple before dc I am now a super apple - my commiserations.

You need to work out what shapes/styles work with your shape and go hunt them out.

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 31/03/2007 20:51

Next do different size legs these are a long which I think is 31 or 32 inches.

colditz · 31/03/2007 20:51

i find DP roomy - but totally the wrong shape - they billow out around the thighs and make me look like a clown

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 31/03/2007 20:52

Yeah same here and ridiculously low waisted!

colditz · 31/03/2007 20:52

I have 1 pair of short leg Per Una jeans that are perfect - I found then in a charity shop for £3.50 and they will die in action, i'm afraid.

god are you my dopplewhatsit colditz????

foxinsocks · 31/03/2007 20:54

ooh colditz, I am a similar shape to you (waist the same size as hips at the moment ggrrr) but I do have a bit of a backside.

I find per una jeans fit me well - you can get them in short leg length (I too have to wear short length trousers).

CarGirl · 31/03/2007 20:55

actually I refine my statement

I do not have a waist even after 6 months in gym I have slight indent of about 1 cm in height somewhere between my hips and ribcage - I look like a boy - tis depressing

CarGirl · 31/03/2007 20:57

per una size 8 skinny are too loose on me - I mean I am not a stick insect etc just petite in height and hips - hence the trip to gap

Gap do have lots of different shapes and styles so worth a visit IMO

again some styles that fitted me were an USA 0 others I was 4 so just ignore the labels

Rantum · 31/03/2007 20:57

I have the opposite problem colditz - Jeans that fit my hips are always way to loose on my waist - making me feel like I have the largest hip on the planet - although I never have this problem with skirts, dresses or trousers. Just jeans! They are just a nightmare to buy!

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 31/03/2007 20:58

The thing is waist measurements on hipsters are no bloody use as they are supposed to sit on your hips I actually have a comparatively small waist compared to my hips and my thighs aren't massive either do if I get hipsters that fit my hips theyy're baggy on my bum and thighs grrrrr.
