Why does my waist measurement not corrospond with the clothes that actually fit me?

Apparently, I should be in jeans 3 or 4 sizes bigger than the ones I am wearing.

I tried buying bigger jeans, under the influence on 'jeans that are too tight make you look fatter'

but they fall off.

Why is this happening? Why don't I seem to have a waist? My hips and waist are the same size, I measured them, is this merely a result of having babies and being overweight - why does everyone else my waist size have a bum to match? I look like a porky bloke with boobs - not happy!

Womens clothes are not cut right for me at all

LOL yup, but I'm bigger than you ggirl

The problem is, the clothes on the high street are designed for one size, then more or less material is added to make them fit other sizes - what they fail to accomodate is the different shape of larger and smaller ladies. Slim girls often have problems with dresses billowing around the bust although it fit's around the waist - larger girls - have the opposite problem - to get a top to fit the bust thewy have to go up 3 sizes and the shoulder bit is halfway down the arm.

*so not do!

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 31/03/2007 21:00

Oh god don't get me onto tops i've recently lost 3 stone 7.5 pounds I still have a 36 E bust (went down 4 back sizes and up a cup size!) so even though i'm a 14 bottom half i'm a 16 and sometimes 18 top half!

I have heard that Wrangler jeans are good for people with a more straight figure - and I have never been able to squeeze my hips into them, so it may be worth checking them out if you are slim through the hips.

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 31/03/2007 21:01

Easy jeans are good too.

Rantum · 31/03/2007 21:03

so: these might work

CarGirl · 31/03/2007 21:04

I hate being short I end up having to take up jeans etc the choice in petite is so limited nearly always only office wear or party wear - no trendyish SAHM wear to be seen

brimfull · 31/03/2007 21:04

ledodgy I am the same on the top ,fatface are quite generous and I can fit a 16 but most shops my tits will fit an 18 and the rest of the top is baggy.

colditz · 31/03/2007 21:04

crikey I used to wear Wranglers when I was a teenager! Might be worth a look

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 31/03/2007 21:08

Thanks ggirl.

I bought new jeans at TK Maxx last week. I literally tried on 18 pairs (very demoralising) before I found a pair that I actually thought were presentable, I could zip up or did not fall off. They were all in the same size rail!. At least at Tk Maxz you can try a whole lot of different brands in one place though.

GAP don't do short length trousers though

Sainsburys (strangely) have just started doing short length (I got quite a nice pair from there a few months ago).

CarGirl · 31/03/2007 21:15

yes I just resorted to taking mine up - when per una size 8 skinny fit are suddenly to big for you there aren't many places left to go! (As I discovered)

hoolagirl · 31/03/2007 21:42

I don't really have a waist either, can sympathise.
Seem to get away with hipsters as long as i haven't eaten too many sweeties
Definetly cannot wear 'normal' cut skirts etc for women!

CarGirl · 31/03/2007 21:49

mmm yes hipsters and a non-clingy top otherwise all you do is show the world the baby handles that hang over the front of your hipsters......

Don't Gap do Ankle length jeans anymore?

I used to buy those and they fitted me perfectly, I'm 5ft 1 and trying to find jeans is a nightmare. I usually go to the Gap sales and get a pair there but since they moved all the womens clothes upstairs and they don't have a lift in our gap I've not been in lately.

At the moment I've got jeans from next which are short length, which I can't get in my local store as they don't stock them I have to either order them or go over to the next town and buy them there as they have a petite section. The ones I've got are a size 12 which I spend most of the time hauling back up as they slip down and go all slouchy round my bum. But I can't get the size 10 fastened round my wobbly tummy, need to try harder at the healthy eating and do more sit ups me thinks.

Oddly although I usually end up with jeans in a size 12 in skirts I'm still a size 10? go figure.

CarGirl · 31/03/2007 21:57

they do ankle length in probably a third of their range - the third that don't fit my shape!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buying jeans is a very valid reason for a day out with no children in tow IME actualy clothes shopping generally is as having 4 in tow just isn't workable!

Linnet · 31/03/2007 22:13

I didn't know that they don't do ankle length in all styles. I can't remember which ones I used to buy just remember they were ankle length.

I actually bought a pair once here at home and then in London a few weeks later they still had their sale on so I bought another pair, same style same size and they were huge! I could actually pull them off without undoing the button. My ego wanted me to believe that I had shrunk but I think the reality was that they'd been mislabled, is that a word?
