Are skinny jeans and knee-high boots dated?

I've always been a fan of skinny jeans tucked into long boots, but are they a bit too early-noughties now? What else can I wear them with?

I hope not! This is what I live in every autumn/winter ConfusedGrin

WhatEaglesWear · 16/08/2017 08:16

I think it depends on what else you are wearing!

It can look dated...

TheLuminaries · 16/08/2017 08:18

I think it is pretty dated. It is rolled up jeans and ankle boots nowadays.

BumbleNova · 16/08/2017 08:19

Yes, swap for ankle boots instead

TipTopTipTopClop · 16/08/2017 08:19

I think overly sexed-up boots are a terrible look, which is sometimes (not always) the case with knee-highs. Otherwise, I think skinnies tucked into boots is a timeless look - what else is there to wear in the autumn? Confused

AuntieStella · 16/08/2017 08:20

I think for as long as people want to show off lovely boots, they'll be worn outside trousers (which means it pretty much has to be skinnies) or with short skirts.

Do they look 80s to you? Because it's become a classic look that has spanned several decades now (vanishing only for a few years in the 90s)

TipTopTipTopClop · 16/08/2017 08:20

What do you mean by knee-high? Covering the knee, or up to the knee?

PineappleFwitters · 16/08/2017 08:22

No not 80s, more early to mid 2000s. But I don't know what else to wear in winter as I have big feet and skinny ankles so ankle boots are ridiculously wide on me!

Up to the knee TipTop, I find over the knee looks a bit Robin Hood!

God I hope not, I wouldn't know what to wear in the autumn winter. However the boots need to be flat and no higher than knee high.

Heeled boots are fine, but more an evening look with good skinnies and a nice top.

Thigh high is a total no no. Heeled thigh high is a crime. 😂

Highlove · 16/08/2017 08:24

I think with actual knee highs it probably is. But make it a slightly shorter chunky boot (think biker boot style) then it still works. Or, as above, skinnies in ankle boots.

skyzumarubble · 16/08/2017 08:26

Depends on the boot!

AuntieStella · 16/08/2017 08:29

If they don't look 80s to you, that shows they are not inevitably pinned to a particular time in fashion history.

If they don't look 89s, there's no reason for them to look 00s or 10s either.

As you like them, wear them.

Indeed, stockpile them, because fashion industry works on fostering a sense of obsolescence and if they want to boost sales by switching to a different shape they may become hard to find (I bought only one pair of jeans in the 90s, in the straightest leg I could find because there were no skinnies in the shops)

greendale17 · 16/08/2017 08:31

Knee high boots are outdated- can't remember the last time I saw someone wear them

BusterGonad · 16/08/2017 08:33

I'm not a lover of rolled up jeans and ankle boots, it doesn't look good to me, I love knee high boots and skinnys and won't be trading them in any time soon.

BusterGonad · 16/08/2017 08:35

I'm sure I read recently that slouchy knee highs were back on the catwalk for autumn winter 2017!

MaisyPops · 16/08/2017 08:36

Depends on the boot style and what else you're wearing.

I live in skinny jeans / leggings with knee high boots in autumn and winter. My boots are generally tan flat ones but I do have a couple of heeled pairs.

Katmeifyoucan · 16/08/2017 08:41

I think they are coming back this year.

scrubthedeckandmakeitlookSHINY · 16/08/2017 08:41

You'd have to have absolutely the right boot teamed with the right outfit to make it work. It would be so easy to get it wrong. There are far easier looks out there now. Skinnies and ankle boots are infinitely more flattering.

PandorasXbox · 16/08/2017 08:44

Skinny jeans, knee high boots with a nice top looks ok imo.. depends on your overall look really to whether it's dated or not. I have some knee high uggs ( with zip and proper heel - can't remember the name ) that I've had for about 7 years that I wear when it's bad weather and people always say they look good!

CheeseandWine1 · 16/08/2017 08:44

You should wear what makes you feel good!! Who cares what other people are wearing, just feel good about yourself x

diddl · 16/08/2017 08:45

I wouldn't care if it was/is dated.

I'm all for comfort/wearing what you like over being fashionable tbh.

Bluntness100 · 16/08/2017 08:46

I also don't like the skinny jean and ankle boot look, I think you really have to have very thin legs to pull it off or it just makes your thighs look chunky.

Calf high boots are difficult also as they cut your leg off at the widest part.

Knee high are the most flattering, hence why I think it remains popular.

burnishedsilver · 16/08/2017 08:47

Yes, very dated no matter how you style it but extremely practical in cold wet weather so I wear it anyway.

WhataHexIgotinto · 16/08/2017 08:49

I'm not keen on knee high boots and skinnies but wear what you like!
