Toenails - to paint or leave bare?

Are painted toes a bit brash? I'm considering going nail naked on holiday. Classier, right?

Painted or professionally buffed and shaped to perfection if unpainted....

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 09/08/2017 09:14

I have loved a bright pedicure for years but I am very into the bare but pedicured and buffed look described upthread.

thethoughtfox · 09/08/2017 12:59

Another vote for at least a clear gel. The clear ones which have a very slight pinkish tone are lovely.

imamouseduh · 09/08/2017 13:23

I never have bare toenails. I think feet look naked without polish! Quite like the thought that maybe I am 'brash', actually.

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 09/08/2017 13:34

Definitely painted (on me anyway, mine are currently navy). Agree with pp who said not to French manicure them though.

PollyPerky · 09/08/2017 14:36

Just don't let your toenails grow Confused
I see some women who seem to think looking after their toenails includes letting them grow and filing them to a point.

karinkeller · 09/08/2017 14:41

Painted toes! It will make you feel different and more confident for the day! Go Easter Smile

SnowiestMountain · 09/08/2017 15:00

I think you might have your answer but absolutely, definitely, 100% PAINTED!!!!

Gah81 · 09/08/2017 15:04

Bare for me but think that then upkeep has to be tip-top: buffed nails, cuticle oil and foot cream applied regularly. Footner plus filing etc.

Gah81 · 09/08/2017 15:05

And absolutely no white tip showing! And if there is any yellowness, go for the varnish.

dudsville · 09/08/2017 17:03

I do both. I have healthy looking feet and toe nails and am happy either way. A normal polich can stay on for 3 or 4 weeks with minor maintenance. I'm the same with fingernails except that as I always do these myself it only lasts a week and is more of a pain so tends to be a start of summer or start of autumn thing for me.

Housewife2010 · 09/08/2017 17:27

For a subtle look I love Butter London in Yummy Mummy on my toes. 2 coats gives a gorgeous taupe/ greige silvery sheen which doesn't look too obvious but makes your feet look beautifully groomed. £10.50 at M&S at the moment.

Highlove · 09/08/2017 17:52

Definitely painted. But nicely and not chipped.

As already mentioned, never ever french manicured toes. Gross. And short toenails. What's the thing with long, French manicured toenails? Just awful.

Tortycat · 09/08/2017 21:29

I like french manicure toes! As long as theyre short with a bit of a tan.

I hate grey or blue nails - makes feet look dead. I had dark red ones once and dh said they looked like I'd had my toenails ripped off - put me off for good!

BuzzKillington · 09/08/2017 21:36

God I LOATHE french 'manicures' on toes.

Liiinoo · 09/08/2017 21:53

Definitely polish on toes. And to the PPs who say never a French finish, I always have a French mani on my toes. Short, fresh, natural looking. In fact the salon owner says I have the perfect toes for a French mani and took a photo for her web gallery! And it lasts for weeks.

RickOShay · 09/08/2017 22:29

same as zoya, I have always loved painted toes, but for some reason this year they are bare, hopefully clean enough Grin

Only1scoop · 09/08/2017 22:31

Toes without polish are grim

CakeNinja · 09/08/2017 22:32

French pedicure freaks me out - your toes are not fingers!!

Chatoyant · 09/08/2017 22:39

French pedicure surely means your toenails are too long?
Always painted for me, my feet look really weird without nail polish.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 10/08/2017 10:56

Toes without polish are grim

They really aren't if they are pedicured and buffed, but as with all 'natural' looks I'm learning that this is more upkeep than just having some polish put on.

GinnyWreckin · 10/08/2017 11:03

I always think unpainted toes on hols look like a missed opportunity! I love all the corals and bright pinks.

Just my humble Shock opinion, but I think unpainted toes makes the owner look like an Amish nun or someone who would be rather dull and worthy, and boring, with no sense of humour...

I don't mind unpainted fingernails though.... go figure!

thereallochnessmonster · 10/08/2017 11:44

French pedis don't mean you have to have long toenails! Mine look gorgeous. You just need a thin stripe of white at the top, not an inch Hmm

imamouseduh · 10/08/2017 13:47

I think the issue with French polish is that it's just awfully dated.

squoosh · 10/08/2017 13:50

French manicured toes are just the naffest thing in naffsville.

But I don't expect any fans of this look to care a whit what I think!
