Shaving your (bastard) legs in the shower

kingfishergreen · 29/07/2017 10:36

It was fine when I had a shower over the bath. I just plonked my foot on the edge of the bath an shaved my legs. Easy.

But now we have a shower cubicle, no foot ledge, so I find myself standing on one leg, the other swaying perilously, contorting and blindly hacking into my ankles and completely missing the fiddly bit where you have to use your left hand on your right leg.

Best solution so far is an upturned plastic jug as a foot prop, using the baby bath seat as a foot prop in a 1mx1m shower cubicle as not a good solution and will not be repeated.

Am I missing something obvious or is this just my life now?

I just sit down ! Angle the shower head to the back so don't get water on my head , heel over the plug hole so I have water to rinse the blade :)

Supermagicsmile · 29/07/2017 11:17

We have the same problem. I have to cover my legs in shaving foam (before my shower) and shave each leg on the closer toilet lid! Then jump in the shower and rinse legs and then continue as normal!

kingfishergreen · 29/07/2017 19:35

I'm just trying to picture my size 16, 39 year old frame sitting on the floor of my shower. I wonder if I'd ever get out again. I'll give it a go.

The pre-shower-standing-shave might be a good way to go, using the basin for water/rinsing the razor. I'm a bit afraid of getting foam all over the place, maybe I could use hair conditioner as it's less... foamy.

Would conditioner work? Not coat/clog the blade? Brill if it would, I've a full bottle of conditioner I don't use...
Oh, and I've got a pull down chair in my shower. Just the place to sit to paint your toes. Bliss.

RoganJosh · 29/07/2017 19:57

If you turn the shower off then you can just bend over and do it, I find, anyway.

TroysMammy · 29/07/2017 19:57

The problem I have is my eyes. I miss big chunks of fur on my legs as I can't wear my glasses in the shower as they would fall off when I lean forward.

Lollyb86 · 29/07/2017 19:58

I always cut myself shaving in shower so I only do it in the bath now unless I'm desperate

fredabear · 29/07/2017 20:01

I use epilator resting foot on the toilet seat (so hairs fall in loo)

wrinkleseverywhere · 29/07/2017 20:04

I just lift my foot up and rest it on the side of the shower cubicle & then bend forward. I do worry what I will do as I get older as I am the least agile 40yo in the world

StarryCorpulentCunt · 29/07/2017 20:12

You do your legs last. Sit down with your foof up on the wall and do them like that then just open the shower door and crawl out onto a towel Grin

StarryCorpulentCunt · 29/07/2017 20:13

Your foot! Your foot goes up on the wall! Not your foof! Confused

PickAChew · 29/07/2017 20:14

I just do it in the bath. With my glasses on. my shower is over the bath, but I always miss loads, shred my legs and feel like I'm wasting water. Plus, I have a hip that isn't too keen on the one foot on the side of the bath pose, any more :(

backintown · 29/07/2017 20:15

Grin at foof on wall. Was trying to work out how that would help. Brilliant.

PickAChew · 29/07/2017 20:16

Quite an image there, Starry :o

Musicalmistress · 29/07/2017 20:19

Oh Starry I've just spat my wine all over the iPad at the image!!

MaisieDotes · 29/07/2017 20:20

starry I just spend a stupid amount of time re-reading your first post and trying to picture what you meant Grin

Just get a washing up bowl. Fill half full with water. Pop your feet in. Shave away. Grin

Poppiesway1 · 29/07/2017 20:34

I used to be able to sit down in my shower and shave... however after gaining a bit of weight I can't manage properly so I've given up Blush
I get mine waxed now.. much better and lasts longer !

StarryCorpulentCunt · 29/07/2017 21:03

Yeah well...It's MN's fault anyway that the word foof is even in my autocorrect. Grin

kingfishergreen · 30/07/2017 20:10

Tiger I think conditioner would work, so long as my legs are wet first, I sometimes use it if I've either run out of foam, or have eczema (I'm a rashy bastard as well as an unagile one).

roganJosh I used to bend over to do it, these days that makes my head a bit swimmy after a while, and my post baby chub doesn't help, hence the current standing on one leg Karate Kid style approach.

Starry I spent some time visualising how I'd get my foof on the shower wall, I think I might have to follow poppies lead and go back to waxing.

Though the next time I shave them (estimated five weeks days from now) I'll test the sitting in the cubicle approach. If I get stuck forever I'll blame you guys 😃

Still sniggering . " Help , my foof is stuck to the wall "

PaperdollCartoon · 30/07/2017 23:23

Hang on - what bit where you need to do your right leg with your left hand? Confused

kingfishergreen · 30/07/2017 23:29

paperdoll

Ah, sorry, it's actually that I use my left hand on the outside of my left calf, I can do my whole right leg with my right hand.

I just had to mime shaving my legs whilst standing up to be sure.
