Cheaper but ok alternatives in beauty

I used to spend ALOT of my wages on skincare and beauty but now only working part time and having my dd I don't have the funds anymore but I still enjoy beauty/pampering looking after myself etc can you please give me your cheaper but still good products that are out there? Like alternatives to ysl touché eclat,Lancôme mascara etc

Hello, this thread is a little old and the links are out of date. Take a look at this handy page for a round-up of Mumsnetters' favourite beauty dupes.

For basic stuff, Waitrose Pure shampoo and conditioner are very good quality at a low price, as is the Superdrug Pure skincare range, with the hydrating serum, in particular, getting rave reviews. I bulk bought the Aldi dupe of Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish and it's very good, but not available any more.

Superdrug is good for budget make-up. MUA and Sleek both have some dupes of pricier brands. I have a Sleek blusher which is virtually identical to Nars orgasm. I use the Aldi version of Touche eclat, and actually prefer it to the original on my skin.

Thank you Broomstick- I will defiantly go hunting for the Aldi under eye concealer and the Superdrug range sounds great!

Kiko lip gloss is, as far as I can tell, identical to Dior Addict gloss. It might even be better. Reduced to £6.30 at the moment!

The primark Matt foundation (£3) is honestly brilliant. I've had more compliments about my skin since using it than ever before.

Collection 2000 under eye concealer is my replacement for the clinique one.

Aldi's own version of Aussie shampoo is good too.

Wilko's have a makeup line (Essence I think) and a woman's magazine recommended the eye primer. I've tried it and although it's a little thinner consistency to my bare minerals one, I'll trade for the price saving

Naturally Radiant skin care range is REALLY GOOD and on a par if not better than Liz Earle. The eye cream is fab in particular. From Superdrug and it's all cheap as chips!

I got the Sleep Cream (not the full name) its meant to give the appearance of an 8 hours sleep . (Its good but its a cream not a miracle )

I don't find that eye cream makes any difference. Where am I going wrong?

Eye cream is bollocks in my view. Just shove some of your normal moisturiser on. Eye cream is almost the same thing, in a smaller tube and 3 x more expensive!

I like the Superdrug Naturally Radiant skincare range BTW.

My eyes are really sensitive so I find normal moisturiser too heavy near them. I agree in theory though!

See I love my liz Earle and have for years. Still upset thru discontinued the fake tan years ago because it's one of the only ones I've found that works for me.

Affordable fake tan for pale skin if anyone has any suggestions? (Currently using the San tropez tinted gradual tan but one liberal coat brings me out too dark still)

St Moritz fake tan is really good. I'm as pale as you get but gives me a nice olive glow.

I also really like the naturally radiant fake Liz earle

I'm also a Primark foundation fan - though I use the £2.50 tube. Long lasting medium coverage - I now use this instead of the Clinique one I used to buy. Also Primark sponge beauty blenders - £1 for a pack of 2

I really like Dove fake tan (moisturiser with fake tan added) - I use the medium to dark and I am quite pale. It goes on smoothly, no patchiness as the colour develops. It's currently £3.45 in Superdrug.

I've also been using a pot of anti-wrinkle moisturiser (£1) from Poundland which as far as I can tell is just as good as the pricier versions. Also use their baby oil (£1) for removing eye make up.

Agree that eye cream is a scam.

I'm willing to spend on face moisturisers, but expensive body moisturisers do nothing for me that Nivea or Dove don't do. They just smell nicer or have fancy packaging.

Oil of Olay Total Effects - age defying tinted moisturiser work's for me

And I love Nivea aftersun for body lotion - smells delicious!

I do valued opinion surveys, boring but they pay out in John Lewis vouchers or boots.

Here are mine, some have been mentioned already:

Waitrose own brand shower gel - leaves my skin really soft. As good as l'occitane almond shower oil imo (very different, but skin just as soft and lovely fragrances)

Primark Matte foundation - brilliant!

Body shop camomile cleansing butter - I love elemis pro-collagen cleansing balm and still buy it to use occasionally as a treat, but the camomile cleansing butter is just as good (just doesn't have the lovely smell of the elemis one)

Collection sheer loose powder - does the same job as bare minerals mineral veil

Body shop vit E moisturisers - love these, I think just as good as more expensive brands I've used. I use the spf30 day cream and the night cream

Aldi lacura face oil

I'm sure there's more but that's all I can think of for now. I've been trying to reduce my beauty spends - bought a lot of few duds along the way but it's definitely been worth it.

It's my replacement for the By Terry one! I was using them side by side for a bit and realised I probably actually preferred the Collection one.

Primark's mascara is brilliant. I have very sensitive eyes and it doesn't make them itchy, which most brands do.

I really rate Avon as well. Their matte lipstick is amazing.

L'Oréal false lash flutter is what I get when I can't afford Benefit They're real.
Barry M do some great eye liners and khol in lots of colours. Kiko is also good for cheap but good quality pops of colour (eye shadows and pencils are good)

For face masks, the Good Things range at Boots is good, and also Quick Fix (all under £7)
