I've just started work as a receptionist in an art centre. Is red lipstick suitable for day wear or should it be kept for evenings out?

yes it is.

PurpleDaisies · 10/07/2017 18:36

Why wouldn't it be?

getahellyeah · 10/07/2017 18:50

As long as it's done properly (no smudges, none on teeth) then absolutely. Go for it.

thedevilinablackdress · 10/07/2017 18:51

Red lipstick is always suitable! And possibly a little tame for an art centre, how about some purple? 😉

qazxc · 10/07/2017 19:20

Thanks I got a few comments when I picked up dd from creche (from staff and one of the dads), so I was worried I was breaking some sort of make up rule.

I wouldn't wear scarlet lipstick in a conservative office environment but in an arts centre it would look just right, and it'a great look.

Pinkvici22 · 10/07/2017 19:28

I wear it all the time (in a very conservative area of work).

Gwenhwyfar · 10/07/2017 19:32

I knew most people would say it is, but I don't like red lipstick in the office. Then again, I'm not a big fan of red lipstick anyway and much prefer a subtler look.

explodingkittens · 10/07/2017 19:40

Of course it is. Absolutely fine (in fact, probably de rigeur in an arts centre, along with a severe black bob and statement jewellery Wink)

Am baffled that anyone could object, tbh.

Judydreamsofhorses · 10/07/2017 19:41

I wear red lipstick pretty much every single day - on a very odd occasion I might wear hot pink. I don't wear much other makeup, and people would think I looked weird without red lips. (I'm a lecturer.)

Sparkletastic · 10/07/2017 19:43

Yup.
And I always wear it for tough meetings as it gives me a confidence boost.

strikealight · 10/07/2017 19:45

I wish I could. It looks rubbish on me. If it looks great on you, op, then you actually must wear it.

getahellyeah · 10/07/2017 19:47

strike There is a red lipstick shade to suit EVERYONE. Honest. If you want to find yours, head to somewhere like MAC and get them to try some colours on you. You don't have to buy them, but you can work out what kind of red suits you.

motherinferior · 10/07/2017 20:23

Red lipstick is suitable for every occasion.

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 10/07/2017 20:36

I wear red lipstick all the time - including to work!

PenguinOfDoom · 10/07/2017 20:39

I wear red lipstick at work all the time.

Still looking for that perfect red that's not too orange and not too pink though.

BossyBitch · 10/07/2017 20:43

But of course!

I've recently bleached my natural, ashy hair to pretty much a platinum and have been on a true red craze ever since - I've had a lot more compliments at work for the lipstick than the hair (which, by the way, looks fab). FWIW, I'm in a very suit-y corporate type job. Definitely a lot more conservative than anything to do with art.

Sciurus83 · 10/07/2017 20:44

Probably wouldn't at my work, but art centre is definitely fine!

PenguinOfDoom · 10/07/2017 20:58

Out of curiosity, why would red lipstick not be ok to wear to work?

LancashireTea · 10/07/2017 21:39

I wear various shades of red all the time and I'm a teacher. Makes me feel good about myself, which when you're surrounded by a lot of younger colleagues (I'm classed as old being 32 as it's mainly newly qualified ones in their early 20s) and teenagers, is important.

pomadas87 · 10/07/2017 21:40

Red lipstick can make you feel glamourous and pulled-together - perfect for work!

YellowLily · 10/07/2017 21:40

Definitely fine. But I work in quite a laid back office to be honest, I wear bright nail colours, winged liner and bright lips for work most days and no one bats an eyelid!

Gwenhwyfar · 10/07/2017 21:57

"Out of curiosity, why would red lipstick not be ok to wear to work?"

For me, it's more associated with nights out, too sexy for work. I'm obviously in a minority though.

getahellyeah · 11/07/2017 06:59

Such a dated view.

CherylVole · 11/07/2017 07:00

Maybe you'd applied it badly ?
