Just wondering about different people's view on what a particular size is in cm or inches. I chose size 10 as it's quite common so most peopke will be dairly familar with it.

So what bust, waist and hip measurements would you say are a size 10?

No reason for this other than the fact that twi colleagues were discussing it today and both had different measurements but both said they were a size 10.

Well different shops can't agree, so your colleagues aren't unreasonable.

I'd say a 28 inch waist is a size 10, although I've noticed in recent years it's more and more often 26 inches.

SomeOtherFuckers · 07/07/2017 02:22

Bust a 32d/c and below , waist maybe 28? And hips around a 34 inch.

SomeOtherFuckers · 07/07/2017 02:22

It then I'm a 24 waist and fit anything from a 6-10 depending on the shop

SomeOtherFuckers · 07/07/2017 02:22

But * not it

thebigbluedustbin · 07/07/2017 03:07

Surely anyone who fits size 10 clothes is a size 10?

ZaZathecat · 07/07/2017 05:43

I remember itas being 34" bust, 26" waist, but that was 30 years ago. I now sometimes buy a 10 and my waist is 31" so things appear to have moved on!

Fozzleyplum · 07/07/2017 05:57

Years ago (1980s) a 10 was about 32-24-36. Now, it's more like 34-28-37. I am 36-30-39 and whilst I'm usually a 12, in some brands I need a 10. That's vanity sizing for you.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 07/07/2017 06:00

I'd say 26 inch waist now. 32 bust.

I've got a 28 inch waist and always wore size 10. Recently I can't get into them, when I've measured waist is narrower.

Fozzleyplum · 07/07/2017 06:18

I suspect the "younger" shops and very high end brands have a smaller sizing system, but some of the more high end High st and mail order brands use vanity sizing.

I'd need a 12, (40 Fr 44 It) from most of the shops in Bond St, but a 10 in, eg, Brora dresses.

Strummerville · 07/07/2017 08:18

I'm about 33 / 26 / 36 and usually fit a size 10, although yes, there is loads of variation between brands. Sometimes I'm an 8 top and sometimes a 12 bottom.

neveradullmoment99 · 07/07/2017 10:50

Well I am a 32-30-39 and a 12 most of the times. Bottoms sometimes are anything from a 10-14!

specialsubject · 07/07/2017 11:10

There are no standards so the discussion is fairly pointless. I've got clothes labelled 10 and clothes labelled 16 and they all fit.

Women's clothing is crap, which is why I hate shopping so much.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 07/07/2017 11:12

I'm 36-28-39 and generally wear a 10.

PollyPerky · 07/07/2017 11:23

I think it would be better to ask about the sizing of brands in a' size 10.'

There has been a lot in the media about this lately.

I agree with PPs that sizes have been inflated- vanity sizes.
I was a 24 inch waist in my early 20s and 34-36 hips. I always bought a size 10.

I now have a 28 waist and 36 hips and still buy a size 10. In dresses, where the waist is loose or not so fitted, I can often get into an 8.

WowserBowser · 07/07/2017 11:25

After being bra intervention-ed defo a 30 band in bras or less

revolution909 · 07/07/2017 11:30

I think it's definitely higher than 26in... I'm 25 in and wear size 6/8 . Size 10 are always too big for me

rightknockered · 07/07/2017 11:38

I used to have a 23 inch waist and wore a size 8 in the 90's
I now am 40 - 27 - 38 and wear a size 10 bottoms, size 12 dress, size 12 tops. I sometimes buy a size 14 and take it in at the waist. I restrict myself to a couple of shops to avoid fit problems. I find Topshop, Whistles, Toast and Hush to be quite consistent

PatMullins · 07/07/2017 11:41

I have a 27.5/28in waist and not a single size 10 fits...

MaidOfStars · 07/07/2017 12:01

So what bust, waist and hip measurements would you say are a size 10?
I'm just projecting from my own "mode" size (the one I am most frequently fitting in the most number of brands).

32/26/36.

PrettyGreyEyes · 07/07/2017 12:17

It's fascinating isn't it. Such a wide range of measurements.

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 07/07/2017 12:49

As an example of random sizing. I'm a 14 bottom, 16 top
I bought a dress from asos standard range, size 14. I then wanted a dress from their curve range, figured it would come up slightly bigger as they usually do. I needed a size 20 in their curve range ConfusedConfused so anyone who was say a size 20 would have needed a 26 and anyone over a 22 would have been sized out!

AnnaNimmity · 07/07/2017 13:06

I reckon a 28 waist, 32 (c or d) bust - I am pretty consistently a size 10. Sometimes (in Gap, Next, Toast etc) a size 8.

AnnaNimmity · 07/07/2017 13:07

I don't know what my hip size is, but I'm pretty straight up and down I think.

EccentricPickle · 07/07/2017 13:12

I'm 33-26-33 and I wear a size 10.

Judydreamsofhorses · 07/07/2017 13:51

I buy jeans in Topshop, Whistles and All Saints, and a 10 is a 28 waist in all three. I think ASOS too, actually. I'm 32D bust, 28 waist and 37 hips and am generally a 10/12, but also have eights and 14s in my wardrobe.
