Leggings under dress - ok or no?

This Mango dress. Cottony, t-shirt-ish, casual. But on me, a little too short. And I thought "Well I'll chuck some cropped leggings on" but I'm not sure now. Is this a bit 2002 or does the leggings revival right now include poking out from under casual dresses?

Cropped or full-ish length?

Or no?

Noooo, it's like wearing socks with sandals!

BitOutOfPractice · 17/06/2017 05:52

Not with that dress no.

Weebittymarchpane · 17/06/2017 05:58

I would as my legs are milk white. I don't take a tan and have no inclination to faff with the fake stuff so leggings it is

BusterGonad · 17/06/2017 06:02

From a fashion perspective leggings are a no, and I've got tbh cropped are even worse than full length. But I am in agreement with wear what you want, but if you do care about being stylish then ditch the leggings. I'm in the Middle East and wear leggings all the time, I do not ever feel stylish in them and when I'm back in the uk will only wear them around the house.

wispytree · 17/06/2017 06:05

No no no no no no no no.

No.

schmalex · 17/06/2017 06:22

It's a no from me.

Samoyedydog · 17/06/2017 06:35

@dinosaursandtea what are the mint velvet leggings like in terms of size? I mean like is the small going to be really small, should I go a size up?

Samoyedydog · 17/06/2017 06:44

Btw I'd say yes to leggings under dress but not under that one.

InfiniteSheldon · 17/06/2017 06:48

It's another no from me leggingstings under dresses ok if you must looks meh but I can see why. That dress plus leggings just no.

AdalindSchade · 17/06/2017 06:48

I will always wear leggings with dresses. I don't have the confidence to have my legs out all the time and I don't want my legs exposed at work. I hate wearing trousers when the weather is hot so leggings and dresses it is.

Cantseethewoods · 17/06/2017 07:01

This is one of those combos that isn't exactly fashionable but is pretty practical for a lot of people and it's not like it looks terrible. That said, I think it looks better with a more tailored, tunic style dress and sandals.

CherylVole · 17/06/2017 07:07

Noooooo. Adult prjnary teacher look

WotsitWig · 17/06/2017 07:12

I would go with the leggings with that dress.

Cute dress, I never think to look at Mango. Shall have a look at their website.

namechange20050 · 17/06/2017 07:21

I think that would look fine with leggings. Get ankle length ones though.

InvisibleKittenAttack · 17/06/2017 08:04

It's a no from me.

It does look dated and also it can be a bit sweaty in the hot weather.

If this dress doesn't suit you, don't buy it! There's lots of stretchy knee length dresses about, don't buy one that is too short for you!

RoganJosh · 17/06/2017 08:06

I tend to wear jeans if it's too short to be a dress. I'm not sure that works with a less straight dress though. I'm no help. Sorry...

silkpyjamasallday · 17/06/2017 08:43

I don't like the leggings with dresses/tunic look anyway, and that dress just isn't meant to be worn with leggings. It will just look like you're wearing a weird shaped t-shirt that's too long. If it's warm enough to wear a dress like that it is definitely too warm for leggings

Asmoto · 17/06/2017 08:48

I wore leggings under a tunic dress to work on 'dress down Friday' and got complimented on the outfit by an attractive woman in her 20s who always carries a designer hand bag, so I was happy Smile

TheFairyCaravan · 17/06/2017 08:55

It's a no from me.

Nice dress, though.

victoryinthekitchen · 17/06/2017 09:00

I wear cropped leggings under dresses when it's not warm enough for bare legs, but a bit hot for jeans. I like them, it makes a change to being in jeans all year round as we don't get loads of sun up here!

cunningstunnt · 17/06/2017 09:01

I'm wearing a short summer dress with leggings right now Confused didn't realise some judgy people would be whispering about me in the street about my apparent fashion fail!

I'm slim, but don't like my legs much. And it's a very short dress so it never occurred to me that leggings weren't a good idea. self conscious now

Floisme · 17/06/2017 09:09

I would wear leggings with a dress, as an alternative to tights. My own rule is that, if a dress is too short for me to wear bare legged or with tights, then it's also too short to wear with leggings.

ElspethFlashman · 17/06/2017 09:14

If I didn't wear cropped leggings under shortdresses I'd spend the summer in jeans (spider veins no tan can cover)

I know you can do the midi thing instead but that can look frumpy if you're not careful.

I'm in my 40s and have really ceased caring whether things are "over". Plenty of women still wear them in my town so it's not like I look any different.

BusterGonad · 17/06/2017 09:33

Cunning I wouldn't judge someone for wearing leggings, it's not a fashionable look but I defiantly wouldn't judge you. Leggings are very practical all I'm saying is they are not a fashion forward, if you are happy in leggings then wear them with pride!

TheDowagerCuntess · 17/06/2017 09:38

I'm slim but have shapeless tree trunk legs. This is why I rarely wear dresses and skirts, and would never in a month of Sundays wear short dresses.

I think leggings on less-than-nice legs makes them look worse, not better. They certainly make mine like even more plank-like. And they don't make the dress or skirt look better either, mainly because black really doesn't go with everything (especially summery stuff).

And I don't understand how leggings are cooler than light trousers in summer. Confused I feel sweaty just thinking about them. Agree with Flo that if the dress is too short to go without leggings, then it's too short full stop.

This argument always runs and runs - legging devotees really love their leggings and the haterz just find them grim. Never the twain.
