I need a top that is eveningy but could be worn with jeans for a friend's birthday where we're starting out at a bar and then moving on to a restaurant. I am SERIOUSLY lacking such an item from my wardrobe. I am large of norks and stomach (ds now 2yrs....beginning to think baby fat excuse may be wearing a bit thin...) Size 12/14. I'm only 5ft so I don't do big patterns.
Any suggestions? (Oh I can't wear orange, yellow, khaki or beige...look sea sick)
Thanks

I have no advice (or style ) but didn't want you to feel all unloved

Aloha · 19/03/2007 16:33

Does it have to be jeans? Would an empire line dress not be nice?

danceswithaSPRINGinherstep · 19/03/2007 16:34

Ah bless you flamesparrow now someone find Mrs Badger and JackieNo STAT!

Deep v neck, elbow-length sleeves, a jersey material, knee length worn with opaques and heels.

danceswithaSPRINGinherstep · 19/03/2007 16:35

I don't want to wear a dress particularly, legs are a bit crap too. Actually only good bit of me is my norks

Sounds gorgeous Aloha but jersey material meets the muffin top/stomach combi....not so good

this?

this?

there is a red spotty top

Flamesparrow · 19/03/2007 16:40

Can I have a link to such dress please Aloha

danceswithaSPRINGinherstep · 19/03/2007 16:43

Ok Beety

First one - not sure, love the first dress on the first page though

2nd one - possible
3rd one - is lovely but somehow I would turn it into frumpy, it's hard to pull off elegant when you're 5ft and a bit overweight

how about an empire line top with a nice low neck and long sleeves? sort of smocky thing. you might have to go and try on quite a few to get a flattering one, can you get to debenhams?

nogoes · 19/03/2007 16:44

I can't do links. I am of a similar height & size to you and I bought a nice top in H&M the other day it is short sleeved, satin type material, midnight blue (also do in pink) fitted on the waist and makes your cleavage look good if that is the look you are after! A bargain too it was only £14.99!

Beetrootccio · 19/03/2007 16:45

I have a v neck gold top with jewles around the low neck line. Looks great with jeans - bought at Warehouse but last year

danceswithaSPRINGinherstep · 19/03/2007 16:46

I know the sort of thing you mean Fishie and I've looked around a bit but only seem to find them in HUGE patterns which just don't suit me. Nogoes I'll have a look on the H & M website!

Beetroot - now you're just torturing me

Can't add anything dances, but I just LOVE the title of the thread!!!

Aloha · 19/03/2007 16:47

I have just bought one just like that by Saint tropez but can't find a website.

I quite like this but ideally it would be swingy enough not to look maternity...

Top SHop frock

nogoes · 19/03/2007 16:47

Oh forgot to say you need to try a bigger size than normal. I took the size 12 back as it enhanced my love handles too much not a look I was after . But the size 14 looks more slinky and emphasises the bust rather than belly!

Beetrootccio · 19/03/2007 16:49

Beetrootccio · 19/03/2007 16:49

aloha

fishie · 19/03/2007 16:50

too orange?

could be very elegant

JackieNo · 19/03/2007 16:52

This is plain but eveningy, not sure if you want black? This would be good for disguising lumps and bumps. Have to dash to get DD and DS, sorry.
