I need a top that is eveningy but could be worn with jeans for a friend's birthday where we're starting out at a bar and then moving on to a restaurant. I am SERIOUSLY lacking such an item from my wardrobe. I am large of norks and stomach (ds now 2yrs....beginning to think baby fat excuse may be wearing a bit thin...) Size 12/14. I'm only 5ft so I don't do big patterns.
Any suggestions? (Oh I can't wear orange, yellow, khaki or beige...look sea sick)
Thanks

Oi, I've said I like quite a few. I think (and I never thought I'd say this) I need to go to Wallis

smock tops are good for those of us who aren't gym bunnies with abs and buns of steel

I tried on one of those 70's patterned smock tops today and it made me look like Margo from the Good Life. Not a good look.

Cod's Wallis Petite's top is really good - that's the sort of thing I mean - thick jersey, goes in under your bust so you don't look like you are big all the way down but skims your tummy. The low neck is good -not quite as slimming as a deep v but flattering to your face. Get a good blow dry and pretty accessories and you could feel really comfortable and confident in it.
Which is the narrowest part of your body? I have a narrow back (32in back size in bras) so empire line suits me.

danceswithaSPRINGinherstep · 19/03/2007 18:30

Yep, I'm narrow in the back too (32ff bra size!)

I don't like the smock look that much.

Beetrootccio · 19/03/2007 18:33

fitted much more classey

Aloha · 19/03/2007 18:35

I think Empire lines (not necessarily smocky) do really suit anyone with breasts and a narrow back. Also the Empire line is current. I have just bought two dresses with high waists - neither are smocky at all.

danceswithaSPRINGinherstep · 19/03/2007 18:39

Links to dresses please Aloha! What size are you?

Aloha · 19/03/2007 21:22

Sorry! Can't find any links to my dresses (fairly obscure brands bought in local shop...for local people)

The Top Shop thing I linked to is a dress though!

Aloha · 19/03/2007 21:23

I am about 7-8inches taller than you, but was a size 16 until recently. But I was thinking of Kylie, who looks nice in Empire lines.
