Kids clothes - for those with skinny waisted kids!

I need suggestions please - where can I buy trousers and shorts with elasticated waists, that don't then need a drawstring to hold them up!

Others out there must have average height kids with tiny waists?

They need to be easy up/down as DS starts school in Sept, so no buttons or zippers. A good, sturdy elasticated waitsband is required! No uniform yet. And I can't stand adjustable waists - so not those either.

I have an okay pair from M&S but they are still falling down his bum.... H&M are useless! Ideas please???

I just stitch a fold into the waistband.

Sorry, adjustable waists are the only way to go.
And when you need school uniform, M&S extra long, several waist sizes down.

I know you don't like adjustable waist bands but they are the only thing that work for my 4 yo DS. Next generally fit well

Stay away from Scandinavian brands like H&M or Name It - they seem to be made for big, broad kids

Not sure what your aversion to adjustable waists is - this is the very reason they exist, so that skinny, typical height children can still wear clothes!

I have a skinny average height 3 year old girl, who loves dresses but has narrow shoulders too making it difficult to get them too!

Vertbaudet do skinny fit and adjustable waists. What's the issue with adjustable waists? I find M+S huge! Gap are slim fit although also quite short lengthwise I find. If you can find any neutral girls trousers or shorts they are narrower usually too. I get quite a bit from the Leigh tucker range from dunes stores (they do free delivery to U.K.)- I size down but find 2-3 fits my skinny 3 year old well.

Dunnes not dunes! Boys selection- I don't know how boys sizes work out but quality is excellent.

H&M are long and skinny I've found.

But then I'm another who just puts a few stitches in.

Next do slim fit but I think they still have waist adjusters. What's the problem with them?
What about a belt?

I have a tall skinny lad. Adjustable waists are the only thing!

Asda and next stuff seems to fit him well, Sainsbury's stuff is often a bit baggy.

Okay, I should rephrase, not so averse to adjustable waist but I find they bulk the waist out, and usually only come on trousers or shorts with a button/zipper fly.

DS is a bit young/lazy to be faffing with buttons/fly zips when he takes himself off to the loo. I'd like something he can manage on his own, but that won't subsequently fall down. Can you get adjustable waists on elasticated shorts?

JL school trousers and shorts have adjustable waist and elastic at the back, the quality is good. There's no avoiding adjustable waists though if your child is skinny or tall. H&M girls are v skinny cut, boden is reasonably slender. JL are on the small side all over. (V short length.)

I always find DS gets red marks on his skin where the adjustable waist button bit goes and all the bunched up spare elastic.

I've found Primark and H&M are ok for skinnier kids. Best option by far though is we now have all his stuff made by a tailor - I'm not in UK and it's cheap as anything where we live and it's so nice to have him in properly fitting clothes!

You don't get the bulk around the middle with the Next slim fit trousers. We've tried and tested loads on our tall, skinny lad and we these are all he'll wear. He hates anything itchy/irritating but finds them comfy.

Zara's trousers are slim cut and fit my very skinny boys. They are adjustable but you don't get the massive bulk round the waist that you do with H&M etc.

I do need to size down with Zara though, unless they've changed their sizing recently.

I find the adjustable waists don't go far enough.

My dd is 9. Wears 7-8 trousers, which are fractionally short so can't go smaller or they'd be proper ankle swingers. I have adjusted the waist to the last button so as pp said they are bulked around the waist- and she can still pull them down without having to undo the buttons.

Actually, as an alternative to slimmer waist, does anywhere do longer length? So i could size down and not be too short.

Boys are slightly better- i've just bought a pair of boys shorts and they are definitely slimmer fitting than girls.

I was going to suggest Verbaudet as well as they do 3 different waist sizes in various trousers. Order a couple of sizes though - French sizes are tiny so you may need to size up.

I absolutely have to buy ones with adjustable waist. Ds is skinny but very tall. Don't know what I'll do about PE shorts when he starts school in Sept.

Shorts aren't too bad - they just have very short shorts, as you buy the smallest size - and for reception kids whatever colour you he'd from a toddler range rather than a school range!!!

Gap kids clothes are usually pretty slim fitting. Also Next do some slim fit kids school trousers so they could be worth a try

M&S do a skinny fit school trouser that my very slim 6yo DS wears. They are 'skinny fit' but on him look like normal trousers. I think they are no flies just elastic waist in the smaller sizes. Annoyingly the knees wear very quick though. BHS did better ones :(

Boots clothes seem to come up quite slim fitting (DD has the same issue). DS had tracksuit bottoms from them that fitted, just the pull up elasticated waist type, but sizes only go to 5-6 unfortunately

Next slim fit skinny for school trousers. The ones with a button but just leave the button done up and pull on/off. For shorts I buy a size or two down, doesn't matter too much about the length. My DS has some M&S school shorts with a flat front, no button at all. They are aged 4 though and he's 6. Jeans usually Next skinny but latest ones are H&M and they're good. All adjustable waists. Skinny waisted boys are difficult to buy for. For football kits you just have to get your needle and elastic out! Also difficult to find joggers that don't fall down and they usually have fake drawstrings that do nothing. Again, we just bought a size or two down.
