Kids clothes - for those with skinny waisted kids!

I need suggestions please - where can I buy trousers and shorts with elasticated waists, that don't then need a drawstring to hold them up!

Others out there must have average height kids with tiny waists?

They need to be easy up/down as DS starts school in Sept, so no buttons or zippers. A good, sturdy elasticated waitsband is required! No uniform yet. And I can't stand adjustable waists - so not those either.

I have an okay pair from M&S but they are still falling down his bum.... H&M are useless! Ideas please???

I have girls so the cut may be different but I find the european brands work best for slim waist and hips. H&M are great for skinny DD, perhaps their boys' cut is bigger though. Vertbaudet, La Redoute, Zara all good. Next trousers don't work so well. Gap are hit and miss, often quite big round the waist.

DS is 2.5 but with a tiny waist, Primark are very stingy with fabric so we have a lot of trousers from there.

Shorts, he's mostly in the shorts he had as a baby 😂 I have to buy 12-18 months to get them to fit.

Both DH and I have narrow hips (DH's are the same as mine and I'm an 8-10) so following this thread for notes!

I bought a few things for both of us from Vertbaudet recently and found the quality a bit hit and miss. I also didn't think they were at all on the small size, I ended up return half of the order as fabric was super thin and cheap and sizing was on the large size.

I have girls, and always have this problem!

I find Vertbaudet work really well - they have a few different varieties of adjustable waist too, and some of them are hidden under a fold, or elasticated all the way round (not just the back), also, they tend to be on an attached band, so you don't get the loose ends of the elastic flapping around, so much more comfortable. They do come up a bit shorter than equivalent age sizes here - for example for a pair of trousers I have to hand age 6 is normally up to 116cm tall, but Vertbaudet sizing it is up to 114 cm. They don't sell school uniform, but they do tend to have a fair bit in charcoal grey and navy, so it depends how strict your school is.

Tbh for shorts I just buy them several years down in age, because it doesn't matter if they are a bit short - trousers are much more of a problem though.

For school, we buy M&S extra long in 3 year sizes younger (eg 9 year old wears M&S age 5-6 extra long skirts.

Feel your pain. My DD has sensory issues so will not wear anything with an adjustable waist. Will only wear leggings with the labels cut out so goodness knows what we will do when she starts school...

Anyway, the only places I have found that come up long and skinny are Gap, some of Sainsbury TU and joules.

Will have to give Vertbaudet a go after the recommendations

M&S skinny fit school trouser with adjustable waist and just a hook and eye fastening.

gladyoucame · 23/05/2017 20:28

Next slim fit for school trousers, also skinny jeans here. H&M for skinny joggers/chinos, shorts buy smaller size as others said above.

wineusuallyhelps · 23/05/2017 22:57

Next slim fit school trousers for when the time comes.

Primark joggers (think the label says Rebel inside the waistband).

Next dropped-waist joggers, they did a black pair and a grey mark pair last year.

Basic Vertbaudet joggers and I also had success with a certain jogger style from La Redoute.

My son is 8 and has no waist or bum! It's a nightmare! Summer is easier as I can buy shorts 3 years younger than he really is...!

wineusuallyhelps · 23/05/2017 22:58

marl not mark!

delilahbucket · 23/05/2017 23:00

I get Next slimfit for ds who is an age 8 waist and age 10 height Confused. Even adjustable waists in other shops are too big.
