If you are an apple shape could you wear this dress?

Or would it make you look pregnant? I am a size 10-12 and about 5'5''. So slimmish but with big wobbly belly. Love the dress but can't decide.

Why not? It's not super expensive and it is as you say a nice dress.

featherland · 01/05/2017 18:18

I've got two weddings I would wear it to this year, but realistically am not likely to wear it to much else, so it's not super cheap either ...!

I guess you could sell it on ebay when you're done... ?

MiriAmmerman · 01/05/2017 18:25

I'm a really extreme apple (often mistaken for pregnant Blush) and I don't think that dress would cause me a problem. The only reason I wouldn't is that I'm far too short for anything maxi length. Go for it - you can always return it if it doesn't suit Smile

OutandIntoday · 01/05/2017 18:28

I couldnt as it is too low cut at the front- it looks long on the body but otherwisevwould be worth try.

featherland · 01/05/2017 18:30

Thank you for your opinions. I've never tried a wrap dress before but heard they are ok for apples. Yes, might be a bit long ...

Also, I am really dreadful at returning stuff. I never remember to go to the post office on time so I shouldn't but stuff online at all really but it is so lovely ...!

Mmm, the dress is very long, and the pattern at the bottom would make it difficult to shorten. The model is likely to be 5'10 and your a fair but shorter than that (I have that problem too, I love wrap maxi dresses but always have to lop about 6inches off the bottom and re-hem as I'm only 5'3"... and do something clever with the cleavage too (tape, or a stitch or a vest), or the V ends up very revealing!

Kennethnoisewater · 01/05/2017 20:01

Boohoo is terrible quality, made that mistake before, fine if your 18 and a size 6 though!

storynanny · 01/05/2017 20:01

You would spoil it if you shortened it

WhisperingLoudly · 01/05/2017 20:05

I'm a size 10/12 apple and I'd look pregnant in that

WhisperingLoudly · 01/05/2017 20:05

Yes definitely can't shorten it

OutToGetYou · 01/05/2017 20:17

I don't think it's lovely - I think it looks cheap and like a nightie. It's also not really a 'wrap dress'. I am a size 14, 5'7" and wear a lot of wrap dresses, I wouldn't wear that, it's too unstructured I'm afraid.

cupofteaplease · 01/05/2017 20:21

I really like it. I'm an apple and not sure I could wear it well, but it's a lovely dress. I hate my arms, so I'm always drawn to dresses with 3/4 length sleeves.

Iamastonished · 01/05/2017 20:23

I thought it looked a bit nightie like as well OutToGetYou

featherland · 01/05/2017 21:17

Good point about the length and shortening it.

Ok, moving on - where is a good example of a wrap dress for an apple? I love dresses. But I always look like a pregnant Lego man as I have big shoulders, big boobs, slim hips and a belly. I would love to find a knock em dead dress to wear in front of my ex at this summer's weddings!

Are you set on a wrap dress? I'm an apple and can't wear wrap dresses at all because it accentuates my Buddha belly. Nor empire, or fit and flare either. It's shift shape only really. 🙁

Bluntness100 · 01/05/2017 21:35

DVf is the queen of wrap dresses. They are very expensive though and they are made small, so order up. Link to her wrap shop below. I love the one in the photo. Guess it depends on how ,much you want to knock him dead 😁

I'm an apple and look AWFUL and very pregnant in wrap dresses, I try them every now and then and each time am reminded how hideous they make be look.

AnnoyedofTunbridgeWells · 01/05/2017 21:38

Same as Bejazzled here - empire line are always recommended for apples but they make me look pregnant. Likewise wrap dresses. Shifts are best. If you are an apple type would short be better for you? Apples often have nice legs!

PetalMettle · 01/05/2017 21:41

I'm confused - aren't shift dresses normally quite straight?
OP - monsoon do wrap dresses as do hobbes

Bejazzled · 01/05/2017 21:43

These are both pure silk, midi length (more elegant than maxi for those vertically challenged) and wrap effect - from the Jaeger Outlet online.

I can't wear anything with a waist band, empire line - it has to be shift or slight A-line.

I want to laugh at 5'5" being vertically challenged, well sob hysterically tbh!

RandomMess · 01/05/2017 22:09

This is shift shape dress

www.houseoffraser.co.uk/women/marella-sarong-34-sleeve-anchor-print-v-neck-shift-dress/d726572.pd#252905143

This is an Italian brand and do quite a fit of stuff that suits more apple shaped shapes!

OutToGetYou · 01/05/2017 22:16

No empire line here either, I seem to have quite a low waist as the waits of most dresses end up under my boobs anyway, so empire line look totally daft on me. As I have boobs I think it's best to have a nice V neck.

But isn't skate style supposed to work well? Again, it doesn't work for me but I think that may be because the waists come up too high.

I've just bought this for a black tie do, doesn't show my fat tummy at all:

Probably too formal for a wedding, but this might work:
