Or would it make you look pregnant? I am a size 10-12 and about 5'5''. So slimmish but with big wobbly belly. Love the dress but can't decide.

That Marella one looks like a housecoat!

I was thinking what suits me best - drapey stuff, ruched stuff, Phase 8 do a lot like that.

What I find helps me is a firmer fabric, so a slightly stiffer cotton rather than jersey which helpfully outlines my navel.

Something like this - I would never actually wear this as it would be ludicrously short on me at 47 and am quite lanky, but maybe it would fit you better.

This flowery one is no doubt not very cutting edge and the body would be too short for me but otherwise I like the shape and I love the print.

The Marella one is what I think of as shift and I think it would be too tight on my stomach.
That Tiana one up thread is lovely

Love the flowery one but it wouldn't fit on my tummy, wouldn't get the zip up!

I'm an apple and find skater-type shapes the most flattering. They skim over that nice flat bit just under your boobs and then flare out over your belly so it's a bit hidden under the shape of the dress. I also have a lovely pencil dress I drag out for basically every wedding - ordinarily I'd steer well clear of that shape but this one's got a peplum sort of thing going on that makes it very forgiving. Sorry it's really old so can't link to it anywhere!

You could make yourself 5ft 8 with high heels. You could sew a triangular piece of coloured silk chiffon in the V.

I'm a goblet (Trinny and Susannah) or a apple with big breasts! I wear fit and flare (really flattering) skater (very slimming) wrap dresses and shift dresses. So long as the skirt to the dress doesn't cling and is slightly A line, and my legs are on show I think I look good. If my legs are covered then I need the top of the dress to be lower in order for me not to look blocky and bulky.

RonaldMcDonald · 02/05/2017 07:30

The skater dress thing I don't get. I never have.
I only ever see poor examples on people. The waist is too high or proportions wrong. I especially don't get how they would suit an apple ...as the lack of waist is the problem.

BusterGonad · 02/05/2017 07:48

Ronald the skater shape gives the illusion that you have a waist. Skater dresses slim your waist and go out at a A line on your tummy so your waist looks slim. Basically they mimic an hour glass shape.

BusterGonad · 02/05/2017 07:50

Maybe I'm not an apple then!

LadySpratt · 02/05/2017 08:37

It's difficult trying to find a dress when there are big boobs, shoulders and tummy all seemingly conspiring against getting a knockout dress; I've been there! Have you thought about a personal shopper to help you get the image you want?

KindDogsTail · 02/05/2017 10:21

Or would it make you look pregnant? I am a size 10-12 and about 5'5''. So slimmish but with big wobbly belly.

One reason not to get it would be if you have a big bust as this style would hang from your bust and give the illusion your waist was as big as your bust.

what about a50's style glam dress? try Lindybop for ideas. I am big of boob and belly and wore one to a recent wedding, got lots of compliments, did the whole net petticoat thing and felt very girly Smile
