Recommend me some funky but comfy trainers to replace my killer converse!

I have worn converse for years but the last pair I bought really hurt my feet! I've tried to get used to them but they are just so uncomfortable I can't wear them anymore.

I've looked online at Schuh and Office but there are hundreds of trainers! I'm not after high fashion but don't want to look frumpy so any recommendations please? Comfy, sturdy (have a form of arthritis) but still a bit cool (if I can be a bit cool at 42!)

Any suggestions please?

Has anyone mentioned the new Puma suedes yet? I have the pink with the more platform sole and they are soooooo comfortable.

My MIL wears Skechers. Enough said...

I bought some Nike Roshe's recently and they are the most comfortable thing I've ever put on my feet. Plus they do lots of colour ways now.

Suprga's and Van's are also pretty comfortable; Superga's come in the most gorgeous fabrics and my broderie anglaise ones from last summer have just come up perfect in the washing machine.

I bought my first pair of supergas last year and I've been impressed by how comfortable they are - from day 1. I want to wear them all the time.

kgal · 30/04/2017 07:59

Love the look of the superbas! Are the sizes true to form?

JaniceJoplin · 30/04/2017 08:09

I've had more than a few pairs of Supergas. None have lasted more than a few months. I washed my white pair and the glue disintegrated, the others have worn down at the heel. I love Bally leather trainers but they are mega bucks, although I had a pair once that lasted 5 years.

JaniceJoplin · 30/04/2017 08:10

I've found supergas come up small.

crumpet · 30/04/2017 08:15

I have been wearing superga for over 30 years and always have a few on the go. One of my pairs must be at leat 10 years old. They all (barring my new silver ones - not tried those yet) get chucked in the washing machine.

Honey1975 · 30/04/2017 09:11

Thanks everyone, off to the shops in a bit so will have lots of ideas to try on.

Have a few pairs of Supergas and can even put my orthotics in them which is ace. Am not surprised they've not survived the washing machine for those that have tried. They don't seem robust enough.

Having worn one pair a lot for a couple of years the sole is beginning to feel quite thin but they still look good. I handwash mine

ProudBadMum · 01/05/2017 12:34

I have these. There are different colours

Adidas Superstars...have three pairs now...v comfy, and coveted by dsd (16) so "bit cool" too.
these are my favourite, but appreciate they may not be for everyone! Wear them with black skinny jeans.

StripeyZazie · 01/05/2017 12:47

Norman Walsh, made in Bolton.

I have just (literally) ordered some new white Supergas to replace the pair I must have had for high on 10 yrs. In the height of summer they must have gone in the washer once a week at least.
The broderie style ones are seemingly on offer all over the web (eBay and Amazon both selling them off cheap)
For a "deck" shoe they are fairly heavy, much more so than Converse which are very flat on the ground.
I am now undecided between Gazelles, Superstars and Stan S's..

Lotsofsausage · 01/05/2017 20:31

Try the air and grace copeland sneakers. Converse are terrible for your feet as they are so flat ....

Shelby1981 · 03/05/2017 10:15

Skechers!!

drspouse · 03/05/2017 10:19

I got the Dunlops from Sports Direct but they fell apart part way through the summer.
I think I might try Superga this year.

Sciurus83 · 03/05/2017 12:33

Adidas superstar are my favourite, I managed to find a size 5.5 in kids so only paid £40, they come up big, I am usually a 6

BillHicksRanting · 03/05/2017 17:00

Stan Smiths are really comfy and you can get all sorts of colours now (and can get kids sizes if you're under a size 5!)

Also Gazelles.

Mrsmaudwatts · 03/05/2017 20:08

Superga's - though I don't find them that comfy. My hogl's are amazingly comfy. I'll find a link

Mrsmaudwatts · 03/05/2017 20:10

Like walking on air, and I love the style of them. I spotted someone wearing them and found them with the help of mumsnet!
