Epilator - thoughts?

TootsyBella84 · 10/04/2017 09:54

I'm sick of wet shaving my legs with a razor. Recently I've been getting itchy legs and a shaving rash no matter how much I moisturise or whatever!
Anyway, I'm thinking of getting an Epilator.

  1. Is it really, really sore?!
  2. Can you recommend a low budget one that does the job?

Thank you in advance!

My Silk Epil is still going after 20 years!

Don't attempt it on long leg or bikini hair! Ouch! Cut it a bit first or use it on previously-shaved legs. As long as there is a bit of growth, the epilator will grip it.

The only down side is I get ingrown hairs, but then I am very slack about exfoliating.

I've tried all sorts of epilators but the one I always go back to is the Braun silk epil. In the past I've managed to drop mine on the floor and break the head - Braun do replacement heads which saves you buying another brand new epilator. As others have said, they are generally pricey.

It's here and looks rather scary Shock I will try and give it a go tonight lol

Right ---- it is out of the box and on charge. Have asked my husband if I can try it on his legs first, just to check it is ok, he has declined to be my tester! Grin

So mine had some charge when I took it out the box, I pressed the button and almost pooped my pants 💩 I may have ran it over my hand and swore a little. Yay I bet you're excited! 😂

Although FYI, I have a beautifully smooth hand! 😂

I had terrible trouble with an epilator and got awful ingrown hairs on my calves, which got infected and ended up getting referred to dermatology!

TootsyBella84 · 21/04/2017 19:00

That sounds awful munchkin!

I've come to the conclusion that the Epilator was designed by the devil 👿 😂 I've just done one leg in the shower. Oh ya fu%ker! 😂 so I'm currently half hairy.. It's supposed to get better over time?? Lol

I've recently bought a braun silk epil and it's good

CoolCarrie · 21/04/2017 20:20

It does get better, honestly OP, and as pp said don't use it on long hairs as it doesn't seem to get such a good grip on them. I use mine in the shower, some people use it dry with a dusting of talc the area first, but I think it hurts less to use it wet.
Don't give up

TootsyBella84 · 21/04/2017 20:22

I'm actually wondering if my hairs were too long Blush I'm going to use the shaver head on the other leg then will try again in a few days x

Stick with it OP ! It gets much less painful.

My top tip for epilating underarms (after I ALMOST DIED the first time I tried) is to have your underarms waxed first, then your hairs start growing back a few at a time, and you can epilate them bit by bit. If you go in with the epilator on a fully hairy underarm, well, you're going to be in a world of pain.
