Birkenstocks

They're so ugly but I love mine. Are they really awful or sort of fashionable now? Mine are the sandal type, at least 8 years old, and mainly used around the house but I see a few youngsters looking good in them. Opinions?

Personally I think Birkenstocks are attractive but like all things it is what you wear them with. I think people who are comfortable on their feet enjoy life a bit more. This year there are violet metallic ones 🤗

I don't like so called pretty sandals/shoes -to me they look twee.

I think Saltwaters can look great if you have got that whole retro vibe going on and go for a vibrant colour in them but with wide leg linens and a pastel top- not so much.

I have only seen mention of Saltwaters on here fairly recently, and I can't believe people are touting them as attractive in any way - surely the most hideous shoes ever?!

Comfort is important, I do agree, but I'd rather wear trainers and jeans or better looking shoes than wear ugly sandals. Obviously I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but the Op did ask! Grin

These threads always go the same way, I know, but I'd love the haters to show some examples of sandals they like that are also comfortable.

I don't really wear sandals. I have got a pair with a mini wedge and a ankle strap and toes strap, they are beige and animal print, I've also got a hideous Hush Puppy pair for emergencies like getting out of the pool as I chucked my vile flip flops out in the summer. They were only used in the sea or shower when staying in hotels with dodgy looking showers! Grin

I've been wearing Birkenstocks for 18 years. A little tip. They go in the washing machine at 40 degrees and completely clean up! After around 3 or 4 times they're fecked. A few have had their straps fall away. I buy new ones. I wear leather arizona's. Don't put on a low wash at cold or 30 degrees with fairy powder (they become mottled with powder - it doesn't disolve) But if mine start to get a bit yucky - straight in the Bosch 40 cycle. Straight on the line and clean/new birki's...

Birkenstocks don't date. I don't think they're a style sandal as such - just everyone knows that they're so comfortable, that they've become kind of acceptable. Let's be honest, I don't think teenagers like them for style stakes - but they're fine for old gimmers.

Mums sandals : )
