Emergency dress needed

Heeeeelp! I'm singing in a concert on Saturday. I have to wear black, formal evening wear. I never wear black, and have had a really stressful few weeks will ill daughter, very ill dog, death in the family etc. I thought I might wear a dress I already have but it is too tight, I've put weight on. I've been trawling ebay, John lewis, Debenhams, House of Fraser online, but I can't find anything that will suit me, I have found short ones, I've found navy ones, but not full length black. I am tall and busty, rough size 12, and I hate my upper arms. I can't wear a wrap thing as I'll be holding music. I normally wear vintage, so nothing madly body-con as it won't suit me. Sparkle would be good. Has anyone seen anything? I need to buy it in the next few hours as I'm leaving to travel to a funeral and won't be back until tomorrow night. Honestly I am hopeless, I just haven't been thinking straight.

I like that House of Fraser one, nice detail on the bodice and little bit of lace, I'd seen that, but I think it is just too bare, as there's hardly any sleeve at all. I suppose again, it is the wrong season for sleeves!

"Loads" may have been stretching it but some good options I hope.

Sorry if any of these are crap/sold out/not in your size- I haven't checked!

SirVixofVixHall · 30/03/2017 12:52

Ralph lauren one nice, but no size 12 left, and also no sleeves.

Can you put a shrug/jacket thing over?

I think this one could go either way, either terribly glam, or you'll look like a pair of curtains Confused www.johnlewis.com/gina-bacconi-beaded-edge-tiered-maxi-dress-and-shawl/p2889487?colour=Black

What about this one. I have had a lot of clothes from Roman Originals

SirVixofVixHall · 30/03/2017 12:55

The musician site has one plain long dress, but it is just a stretchy t shirt fabric, so more like a day dress, not formal enough. I am absolutely cursing myself for not trying on my dress earlier.

Beads & sleeves www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_60514+FFN0044017_-1

Plus size ? but velvet & in a 12 www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_64413+80510BLACK_-1

Another plus size but 12 (I have no idea if a plus size 12 is bigger than a 'normal' size 12)

I know this has see through pane but you could maybe wear a thin microfibre vest top under it?

Actually it's pretty low cut at front so maybe that wouldn't work...

WeeM · 30/03/2017 13:12

Have you looked at black bridesmaid dresses maybe?

Lace jacket to go over a plain sleeveless dress www.marisota.co.uk/shop/joanna-hope-lace-soft-jacket/fm918/product/details/show.action?pdBoUid=5203#colour:Black,size:

SirVixofVixHall · 30/03/2017 13:23

Cold- the plus size 40s dress probably the best shape, shows a bit of cleavage and neck so not too frumpy, yet not too cold or exposed. Only thing is the sizing, it looks very short waisted, and I was wondering, as you were, whether the cut is different for a plus size, as it looks cut to a fuller shape than mine (I'm a tall slender busty person who has got podgier..) Maybe I should buy it anyway and buy something else. I can't get to a bloody Debenhams to try one on as the funeral is really far away.

This is their own size guide www.scarlettandjo.com/pages/size-guide which doesn't go down to a 12, so I don't know what that means.
The first one has a toe at the waist so could probably be brought in a bit? And they both seem to have a good bit of extra fabric so would perhaps just drape more. Do you know anyone good with a pin?

Coldhandscoldheart · 30/03/2017 14:00

Also the reviews pages have photos. www.scarlettandjo.com/pages/reviews

SirVixofVixHall · 30/03/2017 14:06

Looking at it again, there seems to be almost no gap between bust and waist. I am long waisted so that would be a real problem. I looked at the review pics and all their dresses look the same as they are designed for a different body shape to mine. The Pretty Dress company has shapes that work on me but the only long black one is sleeveless.
