Heeeeelp! I'm singing in a concert on Saturday. I have to wear black, formal evening wear. I never wear black, and have had a really stressful few weeks will ill daughter, very ill dog, death in the family etc. I thought I might wear a dress I already have but it is too tight, I've put weight on. I've been trawling ebay, John lewis, Debenhams, House of Fraser online, but I can't find anything that will suit me, I have found short ones, I've found navy ones, but not full length black. I am tall and busty, rough size 12, and I hate my upper arms. I can't wear a wrap thing as I'll be holding music. I normally wear vintage, so nothing madly body-con as it won't suit me. Sparkle would be good. Has anyone seen anything? I need to buy it in the next few hours as I'm leaving to travel to a funeral and won't be back until tomorrow night. Honestly I am hopeless, I just haven't been thinking straight.

I've spoken to someone at House of Fraser, and they think the 10 is the beaded dress is generous so I've bought that, and I'll choose something else off the list here, so i have two options. Am so grateful for all the help, thank you alll so much. Flowers Cake Wine

Glad you've got something! Hope things go okay.

Yay! Photo when you get it?

Well the beaded one from House of Fraser arrived and did fit in the size 10, there is a bit of give in the fabric . It is very pretty, in case anyone else is thinking of getting one (70% off at the mo). I was worried about being cold though, it is really hard to sing when too cold, so I ordered this dress too www.nancymac.co.uk/collections/black-and-souchong/products/sable-maxi-dress-in-black-crepe-1 Not sparkly, but all other bases covered. I ended up wearing the Nancy Mac as it had more coverage, and it is a really flattering dress, so if anyone else is busty and tallish then it is worth trying, it comes in some lovely colours. It was freezing in the church so I was very glad I had some sleeves! I'm going to go into House of Fraser this week to try on a couple of the dresses suggested here, the 40s style one that is meant for plus sizes but comes in a 12, and the sequinned lace (Adrienne papell? something like that!) that they only have in a 10, so I didn't order it, even though it ticked all the boxes, now I'm wondering if it might have just about fitted. I have another two concerts over the next six months, so I think I do need two or three frocks in black to cover all sorts of venues and weather! Really appreciate all of you who took the time and effort to help me, such a kind thing to do, and lots of great suggestions. Flowers .

I was sick-a-bed & it did a good job of distracting me tbh. Also I have experienced the 'I have this thing to go to and nothing to wear' more times than I care to think about.
I'd be interested to know how the Scarlett & jo ones go. I'm a similar shape to you when not fat & pregnant.

Coldhandscoldheart · 03/04/2017 17:52

When I'm not fat and pregnant I mean, not you. Not that I have anywhere smart to go.

SirVixofVixHall · 03/04/2017 17:59

Haha, I'm just tubby, rather than upduffed. I think the Scarlett and Jo ones possibly might work as a maternity party dress , at least until the last month or so, as the waist looks high. I had a high-ish waisted Cath Kidston tea dress that worked brilliantly when I was pregnant, I just bought it a couple of sizes above my normal size.

What did you sing SirVix?

SirVixofVixHall · 03/04/2017 18:40

Durufle- Reqiuem, Kodaly- Pange lingua and Haydn- Insanae et verae curae. Lots of tricky bits in the first two, so interesting to learn.
