If you have thick/wavy hair what is your hair style?

I'm thinking of going for a lob and bayalage but I'm not sure if that would be right for my hair type! If you have pics please post

I have no idea what either of those things are! Is a lob a layered bob?

I've got very thick hair with a slight wave - I used to wear it short but have grown it out and i think it has to be at least a couple of inches past shoulder length to look good. I've never had a mid-length look which doesn't tend towards looking like a triangle or just being hard to manage.

Haha a lob is a long bob! I've never liked layers, they always seem to flick out and don't behave with the rest of my hair. I was thinking of having the ends 'textured'. I'll post a pic of my hair and the kind of hair style I'd like.

Also bub, did you find having shorter hair easier to manage or did it take longer to get ready? I'm worried I'll get it all cut and It'll just puff out like a triangle unless I straighten/curl. I want a cut that I can put product on and go.

I tried that combination, lob and balyalage. It was ok, but it needed a lot of styling. So it depends what you like/are prepared to do.?My hair + lob= ridiculous amount of volume some mornings. It does accentuate the wave. So if you like volume or you've got a spare 20 minutes to crack out rings or straighteners great. Maybe a lot of point cutting at the ends could sort that out a bit but a lot of hairdressers aren't that good at that as it's quite time consuming if you've got a lot of hair.

Ah, cross posted. It will puff out like a triangle if you don't straighten/curl. That has been exactly my experience. Not every morning, but about 3 or 4 days a week. Took a couple of weeks after the cut to start doing it.

That's pretty much my hair. I had it cut into a 'lob' last week. So much easier. I towel dry then put in a tiny bit of the boots curl creme and it dries lovely and stays most of the day. It's just long enough to still bung up with a pin for really bad days!

I was shoulder length or longer for years and last week I finally plucked up the courage to have a graduated bob (shorter at the back). The front is now chin-length and the back is about where my hairline is.

It depends on the size and shape of your head and the type of curls you have. I have an enormous pumpkin head so if I cut it short I'd look like a football. Also I have thick hair that isn't corkscrewy enough to look pretty or straight enough to look sleek. It's like conditioned pubes. The answer is long layers to shoulders or below and ghd'd rigorously. Also go to the most expensive and fashionable hairdressers your budget will allow so that if nothing else it will be well cut.

I have thick wavy hair and have had it bobbed several times. I've come to the conclusion that it's much harder work. Once the weight is cut off, it springs up and out in a mushroom effect and the bed hair in the mornings was absurd.

It did look good straightened, or straightened and then curled ends but styling was time consuming. I much prefer it longer and like wearing it up too. I always have a pathetic stubby pony tail with a bob.

You have lovely hair in the pic. If you want a change, what about long layers or a long side swept fringe (?).

To straighten it I have to spend 45 minutes on it (a whole nap time!). If my hair doesn't wave naturally in that style then at least the straightening time will be reduced.

I've found a hairdressers in the centre which seem to do mostly bayalage and lovely cuts! (Stalked their Facebook for weeks)
It's called RMUK - in Leeds if anyone is interested in the same style. I've got a consultation on the 18th so fingers crossed they'll help me decide on the right length and cut!

Ivelostit that's one thing that concerns me, having to straighten and curl.
I've had a side fringe before and found myself just moving it out of the way into the rest of my hair and then it looks a bit odd.
I do like my long hair if I've been to the hairdressers, it's just not practical at the moment so I put it up then all I can see is my receding hairline and hair regrowth since pregnancy.

My hair is similar to yours and I have a wavy lob. It takes a while to do it straight after washing if I want it wavy (as I need to dry it then wave after with straighteners), but it dries much quicker naturally than when longer. So I wash night before, then use straighteners to smooth and wave top layer in morning. Or straighten in morning. Only need to do it twice a week or so, as it lasts quite well, especially when wavy. Just use straighteners to tidy it up a bit each morning.

I'm finding it much easier than when longer. And I need low maintenance as 8 months pregnant with dc3!

It's a technique to shape the ends- literally cutting them into points. It takes some of the bulk out to stop the puffy triangle effect.

However, in my experience, it takes time and skill on the part of the hairdresser to make it work. I had a regular hairdresser who could really do it. He used to take a couple of hours to do the cut. But he was really, really good.

I had another hairdresser attempt point cutting more recently and it was pretty disastrous.

So I wouldn't recommend it first time you go somewhere, until you know how good the hairdresser is.

I'm utterly crap at hair styling - a combination of can't be arsed and being naturally cackhanded, so anything that needs a lot of styling doesn't work for me. So a longer cut for me is actually lower maintainence than a shorter one. Mid length bob was the very worst length for me, such hard work - long bob better but still prone to the triangle effect. Agree with PP who said that when it's longer the weight works in your favour but when you loose the weight it mushrooms!

I keep it long as it looks better. I do have a couple of chin length bits at the front.
Mine is thick with a slight wave and if I go shorter it just goes silly.

I had mine cut recently, shortest it has ever been. Very very thick and spiral curls that look like Bike’s photo when camping/left to its own devices.

My cut has reduced the drying time to 15-20 mins (big natural bristle brush) and I only wash it twice a week so I can justify that to myself. Before this cut it took forever to dry.

I don’t know about colour etc as I am growing old gracefully.

I would absolutely have a triangle head with the wrong cut.

I have similar hair - thick, coarse, frizzprone and wavy. A short bob was gorgeous but the most labour intensive style - I recently had it all cut off from quite long. I'm delighted! Timed myself at 5 mins styling (hairdryer and straighteners) from wet and needs a quick blast and straighten on days when it isn't washed...

Very brave Lady - much braver than I would ever be - it looks fab .

I have, as hairdressers always tell me, difficult hair. It's actually amazing mad Irish hair, which I've had a love/hate thing with all of my life. Thick, coarse, used to have a brilliant curl. Hammering it with colour has sadly killed the curls. Have done very long which was great when young. Went dramatically short when older. Didn't suit my body shape. Too blokish. Now I just do shoulder length with long layers. It's quite boring, but can tie it up or leave loose. I miss my younger hair

I have thick coarse frizzy hair. Hairdresser convinced me to lob it today. The finish was AWFUL / I wanted rough tousled bob tress a la Kirsten Wiig in bridesmaids and the pics posted by other users above. I'm going to live in the cut for a few weeks and hope it improves. Trouble is, I think she cut it too short - it's bouncy and wavy enough that it looks shorter than it is.
