I'm thinking of going for a lob and bayalage but I'm not sure if that would be right for my hair type! If you have pics please post Smile

Dust I think hairdressers often make the mistake of cutting curly hair too short as it's wet and combed straight and then springs back when dry. I hope you can embrace your shorter bob.

BarchesterFlowers · 30/03/2017 06:45

Yes, for many years I would rather go to the dentist than the hairdresser. I first got it right when I was 28 (which means I got it wrong for a very long time).

I only have my hair cut, nothing else, so don't mind the cost of a decent cut.

Oh no dust, hopefully as it grows you'll start to like it!? Was it your usual hairdressers?

Mine is slightly curlier than yours but about the thickness and I find it most manageable between shoulder and chin length, with layers in graduating to longer at the back. I wash it daily, put curl cream in when wet and spray it with curl revitaliser when dry. Takes maybe 30 minutes to dry. If I have it almost shoulder length its quite wild and I just spray it with salt spray and leave it - but this tends to work and look best in summer, I think its as it dries in the sunshine rather than central heating

I also have this sort of hair and find it very difficult. I've reached a point of acceptance that whatever I do with it, it tends to look slightly wild a bloody mess , so I've decided to embrace the natural wave and I'm going for the surfer chick look Hmm . I'm finding that as it gets longer (about bra strap length now) it actually becomes easier to manage as the weight makes it sit better. Although, I love your short cut Lady - it looks gorgeous and very chic!

I don't know if any of you have tried it, but the curly girl method has been a revelation to me - my hair is in so much better condition and it makes the most of the wave. It also requires virtually no effort, which is a definite plus.

I also want to try growing out my highlights and see what my natural colour is really like...so I might have to rock the ombre look for a while.

DustOffYourHighestHopes · 30/03/2017 13:53

A new hairdresser... thought I should try it as it was half the cost of my usual. One shower later, the damage to my hair is evident (chopped all over the place - massive continental shelving type layers). Thick hair requires subtle careful layering. I've learnt my lesson!

Funny how hair is so tied to self esteem. I feel so awful!

DustOffYourHighestHopes · 30/03/2017 13:55

I also think I can only really have my hair shoulder length or lower - so the weight keeps it down. I look like I'm wearing a helmet.

Thanks guys - appreciate your lovely comments. It is so much easier than keeping the dreaded triangle flattened when it's in a bob. And it's a real "style" - that used to take 45 mins when it was long...

BarchesterFlowers · 31/03/2017 09:21

Thats a shame Dust. I moved last year and left my fab hairdresser of ten years behind. I was so worried about a crap cut that I didn’t have it cut for seven months (normal trim time 9 wks).

I saw a woman with fab, similar hair in a local coffee shop and after a few months I asked her who cut her hair. It was a great choice for me and I went from fab hairdresser to fab hairdresser.

So, intruding on a stranger could bring reasonable results Smile.

BarchesterFlowers · 31/03/2017 09:21

Oh, I see that you had one originally, sorry!

PonderLand · 18/04/2017 18:37

I had my consultation today. I was brave and asked for the chop! He said he'd do more of a 'French bayalage' to make it look more sun-kissed and natural, from his photos he is quite a colour expert so fingers crossed! It's going to be 5 hours at the hairdressers Shock appointment is booked for the 10th June, or 18th may if I can sort out childcare. I'll post a before and after photo when I get it done.

I had it done! I'll try get a better photo of the balayage when I straighten in. Worth every penny and absolutely love how natural the colour looks. It's so much easier to style it! Straightening takes about 10 minutes :O

My only issue with the appointment was the way he curled it as it's a bit too 'glam' compared to what I'd like it to look like day to day.

Yesterday I tried a twizzling technique, using a flat iron leaving it to cool then spraying salt spray to get some body at the top. Looked very beachy! I used john Frieda salt spray and it didn't leave a crunchy feel or require washing today. Thanks for all your advice on this thread, really helped me decide what to have done!
