Waterproof coat that doesn't make me look like my old geography teacher and that doesn't cost £££

Thoughts?

This is good but insufficiently waterproof and too much £££ for not enough waterproof

This is bad bad bad

"Fun" is fine.

oh its for camping and getting wet in...but I don't want to be utterly dispirited by the whole thing, which I will be if I have to wear teal and burgundy with a mint trim, all together.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 06/03/2007 19:49

I really do not understand how to post links on this site.

Tamum · 06/03/2007 19:50

I know it's hideously expensive, and I know cod is going to scoff at me again because she hates it, but I still like this . I know exactly what you mean about the prices in mountaineering shops, Pruni.

emkana · 06/03/2007 19:50

this

Tamum · 06/03/2007 19:51

Stripey's link

emkana · 06/03/2007 19:51

stripey, that's your link btw

Tamum · 06/03/2007 19:53

This is quite nice but light showers only, and I'm not keen on the colour...

dingdongjustforyoufg · 06/03/2007 19:54

I have this in black it is fab and quite fitted so looks good - ££ I know but worth it for gortex? I am also size 14 and love this cos I can unzip the lower part of the zip if my hips are being fat

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 06/03/2007 19:55

Ta.

okeydokeygirl · 06/03/2007 20:18

I too have the Goretex Sprayway as per dingdongjustforyoufg I bought the pale blue in the sale for 50.00 about 4 years ago. I have worn it loads and it is still really waterproof. The colour was a BAD choice though as it is really dirty and looks terrible so I now only really wear it for gardening or if i am desperate. It is washable but i am scared this will ruin its waterproofness so haven't tried this. Also, as it is a short fit, the rain runs off the jacket and absolutely soaks your legs so if you are out walking then you really need waterproof trousers as well. This rather spoils any attempt at trying to look half decent. I am still looking for something that is more suitable for everyday wear. How can it be so difficult to produce something affordable that is also stylish and keeps you dry. This is England ffs.

FillyjonkDOEStellherkidsoff · 06/03/2007 20:59

hmm i need to think here

I don't really do jackets but am scared I will look like a twunk if I try to camp in a trenchcoat

If you get some snazzy specs they will draw the eye away from your raincoat

okeydokeygirl · 06/03/2007 21:10

It really depends what kind of camping you are doing-and when. If you are camping in cold weather in a farm field with little or no facilities and you are going to be doing some hardcore hiking then a trench coat is probably not sufficient. If you are going to a more organised site, with specified pitches, proper paths and roads, and washrooms then you will be fine. I go camping loads, to all sorts of sites. Some places i have been to people take hairdryers and irons. Once lot of campers i was pitched next to last year even had canvas wardrobes in their tent.

DrMarthaMcMoo · 06/03/2007 21:11

Or you could go for the "Raincoat. What raincoat?" look

okeydokeygirl · 06/03/2007 21:12

Sod the coat search. I am off to specsavers in the morning!

DrMarthaMcMoo · 06/03/2007 21:13

Good for blending in with the countryside

Can you tell footie's on? I'm reduced to googling raincoats.

DrMarthaMcMoo · 06/03/2007 21:15

Get matching ones for all your friends

DrMarthaMcMoo · 06/03/2007 21:15

I'm a little teapot (in a raincoat)

danceswithnewboots · 06/03/2007 21:32

Dagnamit you lot, I thought this was a serious thread. I'm the frumpiest raincoat wearing mum at school, I hoped you'd fix it

okeydokeygirl · 06/03/2007 21:40

It is a serious thread but so far there haven't been many examples of real choices for a decent raincoat. I'm still hoping that one will magically appear as i am so fed up of being frumpy and wet.

FillyjonkDOEStellherkidsoff · 06/03/2007 23:09

just so y'all know

millets have sold out of the nice coats

the website doesn't tell you til you try to actually buy one, then it mocks you
