Skater dress at my age? Yay or nay!

First thread in the section of MN I find scariest!

DH came home with a Ted Baker skater dress for me a couple of days ago. In my mind I associate this style with young, slim, leggy women. I am nearly 45 and only 5'2", curvy size 8-10. I am not sure I have the heart to say to him that it isn't 'me', but I have no idea what I would wear it for! My job is home based, I hardly ever have to go to an office, and when I do, it is pretty casual! Thoughts?

Nice pair of pins you have there, too!

(Envy There are reasons I wear opaque black tights with everything)

getdownshep · 27/02/2017 19:11

Looks gorgeous. I'm very envious of your dh's good taste!

poppy2021 · 27/02/2017 19:11

Smile I love it. I am older and a little bigger and I would wear it. I think skater dresses are very flattering

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 27/02/2017 19:15

Thanks for the pic OP - looks fab!

Branleuse · 27/02/2017 19:30

I love it!!

GVmama · 27/02/2017 19:42

It's gorgeous, and the print doesn't seem OTT on your frame. Lovely!

You just need an excuse to wear it somewhere posh now Grin

needapaddle · 27/02/2017 19:45

Wow, looks lovely - and you have a DH who buys you gorgeous clothes without asking and does the ironing

Thanks everybody. I think part of my 'issue' with it is the extravagance of being bought a lovely and expensive dress (even with a discount) with no specific event in mind, so trying it on feels a bit odd and out of context in our currently half built house (hence mirror in kitchen!)

It's almost the first time he has done something like this in 15 years (although he does do 99% of the ironing!). Have been having a pretty rubbish time with work recently so he is trying to cheer me up.

nay at any age

are naff

DrScholl · 27/02/2017 20:19

i think the wide skirt is not flattering to you
Love the fabric

Fingermoose · 27/02/2017 21:17

Wow, it's lovely OP. You look great in it too - it's the perfect length for your perfect pins. Now you just need to get DH to take you somewhere fancy shmancy!

2017SoFarSoGood · 27/02/2017 21:42

I think it looks beautiful. Really lovely dress. Really lovely DH!

Tartle · 27/02/2017 22:34

You look fab!

Obviously now he's bought you the dress he needs to find a suitable occasion to take you too!

Bluntness100 · 27/02/2017 22:40

I don't think that's a particularly young dress, I was thinking arse skimming black number, I think it looks quite clsssy on and age appropriate, id definetly wear it. Don't be concerned, it looks lovely.

SinglePringle · 27/02/2017 22:44

Going against the grain but I think it makes you look wide at the waist and it's too long.

DrScholl · 28/02/2017 06:28

Thank god. It's too big at the waist. Skirt too wide with slim legs poking out. I too have slim legs - never do full skirts

Rockaby · 28/02/2017 07:23

"thank God" Hmm

Actually though OP, looking at the second picture, it might need to be taken in a bit at the waste. Otherwise, I think it's lovely and you really do have great pins!

Athrawes · 28/02/2017 07:31

What a lovely DH, it is great!

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2017 08:00

It looks lovely. It is a tad big at the waist but by no means unwearable. You could try a thin belt, they tend to suit that cut very well.

Your legs look good, not poking out at all.

TheNaze73 · 28/02/2017 08:04

I think it really suits you

honeylou42 · 28/02/2017 08:12

You look amazing, go for it Smile

burnishedsilver · 28/02/2017 09:30

I love it. I had been eyeing it up myself (I'm the same age as you) but I have no occasion to wear it. I thought the fabric felt like raw silk, making it quite formal. You need a wedding invitation to arrive.
