Do you have any 'Style Rules'?

These days I generally believe that you should wear what the hell you like but I can clearly remember thinks from my youth that were an absolute no no.

My mum was horrified when I went out in a coat with my skirt hanging down a couple of inches from the bottom. (This was the 80's).

I would never have worn red and green together, whereas now I have a pair of bottle green trousers that I like with a dark red jumper and hope that I don't look too much like an extra from Elf.

Do you have any particular 'rules' that you stick to?

Sounds just fabulous Bobochic. No doubt you will exude style and class while wearing it.

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 02/01/2017 16:17

Structure, not boho; no frills or lace - unless I want to look like the Widow Twankey.
That made me flat out LOL Grin

Rules...
None of that very thin and stretchy t shirt fabric ALL tees seem to be made from now. I cry with gratitude when I find a real, thick cotton Tee in a cheap shop.
No waterfall cardigans.
As little polyester as possible-I try to stick to cotton, wool, silk.
Only leather shoes and boots.
No polonecks. I look like a walking bosom.
I love librarian chic, and 40s/50s stuff, but as I have got older I have realised I just look frumpy, and look best, weirdly, in short shorts and long boots, with messy hair- rock chick style, or dungarees!

MarshaBrady · 02/01/2017 16:21

Knowing the best cut and place for colour for my hair and not being afraid to stick to the same style. Half an inch to short or too long and it bugs me. Although it is not overly neat- which also doesn't suit me.

Look at the label for fabric composition - it will be irritating if it feels off

Then just general don't bother with stuff you know won't suit you

Get rid of tatty stuff - it can linger even if I don't wear it, so have to be strict

LanaorAna1 · 02/01/2017 16:27

Silhoutte first - ie oversized jersey, tight trousers or fitted (hate that word) shirt, big skirt.

Wearing all-tight makes you look like a waife who has to stay size 6 for her banker husband or from reality TV. Plus all-tight usually too tight.

Never all designer or all primark - mix cheap and pricy to avoid
being aged by one's clothes.

Post 40, always comfortable shoes, scent, and nails.

Cat hair is acceptable on every outfit.

I've just picked it up, MargeryFenworthy, and it looks fantastic! The women in the dry cleaners were swooning over it and didn't charge me for sewing back a button that fell off during g the cleaning process. I just need to find a suitable occasion to wear it now!

oldlaundbooth · 02/01/2017 17:10

No upper arms, unless in a bikini.
No brands on shows, unless sports gear.
Pedicured feet.
Nails short and clean, no polish.
No pastel colours, instead colours that suit me: blue, emerald green, cerise, charcoal. No yellow, beige, caramel, cream etc, yucky on me.
Heels not more than two inches, I just can't do it anymore.
No cheap sandals.
I love polo necks and live in them in winter.
Scoop necks work on me, less so v necks.
Obviously if wearing something floral /printed wear a plain colour with it.
Absolutely no 'p' bows, I can't even write the bloody word!
Never wear linen or spaghetti strap vests, I'm just not the right shape at all.
Not much jewellery these days due to DS : maybe my watch and a chunky necklace I'm feeling frivolous Grin
It doesn't matter where your clothes are from, if they fit well and suit you, that's all that matters.

Main one though is keeping a good weight to enable me to fit into my clothes in the first place.

Floisme · 02/01/2017 17:11

That sounds stunning, Bobo I am very Envy. Just make sure you wear it!

NancyJoan · 02/01/2017 17:15

My rules:

No black
No velvet
No boho

leadrightfoot · 02/01/2017 17:29

No polyester or other synthetic fibers
No patterns especially floral ones
Nothing with unintentional holes
Nothing that doesn't fit

Gruach · 02/01/2017 17:33

NancyXmas Shock

I would be naked with those rules!

Bobochic · 02/01/2017 18:04

Oh I shall, Floisme Smile. I need to get past the next couple of weeks (final clearance and completion of sale of my parents' house) and I'm starting to plan lots of events warranting plenty of style! I have had the most horrendous year (father died, brother in law died, two house moves, change of school) following another horrendous year (mother died, I was diagnosed with a very serious illness) so fun is my number one priority for 2017!

WilburIsSomePig · 02/01/2017 18:21

Bobochic can I be really cheeky and ask you to post a pic of your coat, if you don't think it will out you? I'd love to see it.

Here you go!

Bobochic · 02/01/2017 18:45

Version with the buttons undone. The sleeves come to just below the elbow and the fit is a slightly trapeze size 12.

GeminisTwin · 02/01/2017 18:51

I don't wear black and navy together, nor would I ever wear 'double denim' (on top half and bottom half), plus tights with open toed shoes/sandals.
Doesn't bother me on other folks (ok, maybe the tights situ is a bit grim lol)

WilburIsSomePig · 02/01/2017 18:52

That is utterly beautiful! Would you accept a small child in exchange for this treasure? Fairly well behaved, if a little noisy... 😂

GeminisTwin · 02/01/2017 18:55

Plus, when clothes shopping, anything I buy that's expensive needs to be classic. No point in it lasting if you won't be seen dead in it next year. For super fashionable/current high items, I buy cheap and cheerful.

gonegrey56 · 02/01/2017 18:55

The coat is just gorgeous ! Thank you so much for sharing a photograph.

That's gorgeous Bobo I really love that shape. It sounds like you deserve a bit of loveliness in your life after last year. Thanks for sharing and enjoy.

Bobochic · 02/01/2017 20:01

I love small children, Wilbur. But that coat is worth twins (female) Grin

WilburIsSomePig · 02/01/2017 20:04

Bobo Grin Grin I hope you get many years of enjoyment from your coat, it really is a beaut!!

Maudlinmaud · 02/01/2017 20:08

Bobo that coat is fab! Love vintage!

This year I'm going back to my cream/white/camel/beige items. I haven't really worn this combo for quite a few years, and I'm a tad nervous. But I do love it.

Kione · 02/01/2017 20:13

I nearly asked for a pic of the coat too!
I LOVE IT
