OK I'm nervous about posting because I don't want to be judged about my size. I'm 6 ft and a size 30Blush I know I'm very overweight which is an issue I'm trying to deal with by adopting a healthier lifestyle. I'm 35 and during the past few years have just stopped bothering with myself. I wear the baggiest clothes I can find to cover myself up and don't often bother to wear make up or wear accessories because I always feel a bit like, what's the point? But then i feel awful for not making any effort either. Please can you give me some advise on where to buy nice clothes up to a size 30 and how to make myself feel a bit more modern, I feel really out of date with this stuff, help!

Crossed with your previous post. I have a friend who buys a lot from lady V. The quality looks excellent, I know she sizes down on the Lyra. And she says it's quick delivery and returns. She always looks stunning.

ilovecherries · 05/12/2016 21:38

She also has this Scarlett and Jo dress in jade green, plus a couple of others from their 40s range, and again looks lovely in them. www.scarlettandjo.com/collections/40s-dresses/products/lollidot-40s-wrap-midi-dress-1?variant=14699787716

Oh god the high street, there is absolutely nothing, yes, very depressing and I don't have an Evans or yours anywhere near me to even browse. I am definitely going to purchase a Lyra dress, I just need to decide which colour! I have also been looking at Scarlett and Jo this evening, there's some really nice dresses from that range, I just didn't know this was all out there, its been a revelation!

Good luck OP, you sound like you are already changing and enjoying fashion! If you've got the cash I'd treat myself if I were you. Think of it as a Christmas present to yourself! Imagine if you had a huge confidence boost and went all out for Christmas Day! I always find if I'm feeling a bit meh then a bright lippy makes me feel better.

Namechangergeneral · 06/12/2016 06:15

I can second Lady V! Although the Lyra is very generous and I had to send mine back for a smaller size x

abeandhalo · 06/12/2016 06:46

Look at fatshion & plus size hashtags on Instagram and Tumblr and you will feel so inspired by all the plus sized women looking fab. It will give you an idea of what looks you fancy for yourself.

iamanintrovert · 06/12/2016 09:03

I'm not your size but as an observer I think plus size women look much nicer when they wear well-fitted clothes rather than drapey tents - when they look like they are embracing their curves so to speak it can look lovely.

GrimDamnFanjo · 06/12/2016 17:20

I have a lovely. Navy dres from Lady V . It's one if my favourites.

Amethyst81 · 06/12/2016 17:24

I'm definitely going to order the Lyra, there are some other styles that I like too but I will probably have to wait for payday, dammit! Yes I agree having had a look at some blogs last night, the girls who embrace their size look really attractive. I'm no where near that stage but I'm feeling much more positive than when I started this thread.

I'm pleased to say I had my hair done this evening by a mobile hairdresser and its a dark brown with deep glorious red lowlights, am feeling very happy with it Smile just wanted to thank you ladies again for your ideas and thoughts, things are not looking quite so bleak!

IAmNotACat · 06/12/2016 23:14

I love love love Torrid (torrid.com). Their size 6 is the equivalent of a size 30. Their clothes are exactly what you'd find in the high street, just bigger. All the fashion without the negativity!

IAmNotACat · 06/12/2016 23:16

Actually on the site it looks like some stuff uses their sizing chart and some is conventional. Anyway, I think you'll find inspiration there.

Amethyst81 · 06/12/2016 23:18

I will have a look Cat, thanks Smile

I know it won't be to everyone's taste, and you have it get past some bad styles, but searching for lagen look clothes online can be fruitful.
This site goes to size 26 for example
www.lagenlookclothinguk.co.uk/collections/clothing/products/lagenlook-bold-stripe-scarf-jumper-in-beige-code-4136

I like the simplicity of wearing the same colour head to toe with a statement necklace. So easy to just put on and go out anytime with obsessing over what top gors with what top etc. That's why I like COS.

If you're happy to order from the US, I would second Torrid, their stuff is great (especially for going out or a special occasion). Fashion 2 Figure and Old Navy plus are good options over here too, pretty sure they all go up to a size 30.

Amethyst81 · 08/12/2016 07:39

Thanks ladies will check out these sites Smile

Lyra will definitely work on you, I'm 5ft 10 and it's below the knee on me (I love mine and have two!)

Amethyst81 · 08/12/2016 15:14

The Lyra looks incredibly flattering on the model, do you find it flattering and what is the material like? I really want to order one but am just a bit nervous because I haven't ordered anything like this before, its exactly what I'm looking for though.

OP posts:
ilovecherries · 08/12/2016 15:26

It's a thick-ish stretchy jersey. It has enough weight to it not to be clinging to everything. Honestly, if you like the look of it, it's worth trying. I know postage isn't free, but returns are, and they re-credit your money quickly.

Amethyst81 · 08/12/2016 19:37

Its not made of what I call 'swimming costume fabric' ? You know that thick shiny stuff that makes you smell of BO after 5 minutes! Anything but that! I'm trying to decide between the teal, the purple or the oxblood red, I'm brown haired with new lovely red streaks, hazel eyes and a cool skin tone, what do you ladies think?

OP posts:
polyhymnia · 08/12/2016 20:21

Teal sounds good.

Amethyst81 · 08/12/2016 20:27

Yes I really like teal nice for this time of year.

OP posts:
ilovecherries · 08/12/2016 20:31

Scuba material? No :). It's soft and drapey lthough it's not natural fibres. Have texted my friend to ask her what it's made of, but she's out on the town. Will see if she remembers tomorrow. She has teal and purple. The purple is cadburys purple I would say - the real is lovely.

ilovecherries · 08/12/2016 20:32

Teal is lovely. Sigh.

Amethyst81 · 08/12/2016 20:47

Scuba! That's it! Well that's good cos I hate the scuba stuff. The teal is looking to be the best contender at the moment and thanks cherriesSmile
