OK I'm nervous about posting because I don't want to be judged about my size. I'm 6 ft and a size 30Blush I know I'm very overweight which is an issue I'm trying to deal with by adopting a healthier lifestyle. I'm 35 and during the past few years have just stopped bothering with myself. I wear the baggiest clothes I can find to cover myself up and don't often bother to wear make up or wear accessories because I always feel a bit like, what's the point? But then i feel awful for not making any effort either. Please can you give me some advise on where to buy nice clothes up to a size 30 and how to make myself feel a bit more modern, I feel really out of date with this stuff, help!

Well done on making that first step and getting your hair done! I bet you feel loads better about yourself already. Some new makeup, a few lovely dresses and your confidence will soar and you'll be transformed just in time for Christmas!

OK I have bit the bullet and ordered the Lyra in teal, feels very strange to not be ordering a tent baggy top.

Go to a department store and get a make over at one of the beauty counters, they'll give you tips on what suits you Smile

Lindy bop do some lovely clothes, they are very reasonably priced, and really good sizes too..there are also quite a few Facebook groups where people buy and sell clothes.

FatGirlWithChocolate · 08/12/2016 21:23

Just to add that I started at a size 28, and tomorrow I will be wearing a size 18 dress. I've still got a long way to go, but I know we can both do it :)

stumblymonkey · 08/12/2016 21:28

Definitely get yourself on Pinterest and search for plus size fashion...start building up a few boards of different looks you might like to try...

Amethyst81 · 08/12/2016 21:32

Well done on your weight loss girlwithchocolate! That's fantastic! I might go to Debenhams this weekend and get a makeover, I really haven't a clue what to buy or which colours, maybe I will be bought some as an Xmas pressie (hoping) Smile

I absolutely loathe anything from Evans, it's all vile granny frump but have got some lovely things from Box2.co.uk, and also beigeplus.com if you want to spend a bit more. There's also a lady that sells on ebay callled carolineann661, all her stuff is made to order and i think goes up to a 34. I also love Chesca, you can get online at John Lewis.

FannyFifer · 08/12/2016 21:39

As a plus size women, Scarlett & Jo gets another recommendation from me.

Amethyst81 · 08/12/2016 21:43

Agree that Evans is all granny florals and the poly/scuba! fabrics that I hate, I haven't bought from there for a long time which is why Ive got so stuck. Why do they assume that all big girls only want to wear floral garments? Florals can look nice but theirs are too granified.

Have only just found Scarlett and Jo and I agree that their stuff is really nice, is their sizing true to size?

NickMyLipple · 08/12/2016 22:07

Cooooie! I think we're probably a similar size, though I tend to be a few sizes smaller on my top and I vary between a 26 and a 30 on the bottom.

I buy most my clothes from next, new look, h&m, Yours, simply be and forever 21. I sometimes manage to get tops/cardigans from Primark but they only go up to a 22 and I need to buy 'dress length' and be careful about the material!

I do manage to buy most my clothes from high street stores!

I'm slightly younger than you, and I wouldn't say I dress frumpy! I wear a tad of make up every day, and more when I'm going out. I get my hair cut at my local £10 hair dresser every couple of months which always makes me feel good!

I want to start a family soon, and I'm thinking about going to my GP and discussing bariatric surgery. Not sure if it's right for me but it may be, and I'm definitely willing to consider it.

NickMyLipple · 08/12/2016 22:10

The other thing I was actually going to say was that you may find you're not a true size 30 if you start to experiment with other clothes, brands and styles. I noticed you say you buy the biggest things you can find - that might not be your actual size!! Have you got a trusted friend to go shopping with who can advise about if clothes fit nicely??

Where in the country are you??

FannyFifer · 08/12/2016 22:16

Yes I would say scarlet & Jo have their sizes spot on.

Amethyst81 · 08/12/2016 22:29

Hi Nick! I'm in rural Dorset so we are quite limited anyway for high street stuff and they never carry any plus size sections. I did go to a Yours in Birmingham last summer and I did like their stuff, more trendy than Evans, and Imwaiting for some dresses to arrive from Yours any day. I know what you mean about the sizing! Cos I try and hide I do tend to just go for the biggest size! About eight years ago I was a definate size 20 and I was buying the bigger sizes to hide behind and it seems I grew into them because I had them Blush a lesson learnt!
