Are French manicures naff???

SmileysPeople · 16/02/2007 14:49

I have always thought: Yes.

I thought all women who wasted time getting their nails done were empty headed losers with no life.

I got persuaded to have a french manicure at a school fundraising 'pamper night' and....I LOVE IT!!!

I keep waving may nails around as I talk just to look at them (looking at them now as I type).

Now thinking I'll get it done again.

So opinions ladies:

Naff or not??

I was even thinking maybe it's just naff on everyone except mebecause mine look GORGEOUS.

yes
horrible

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 16/02/2007 14:51

naff of v long (footballers wives), nice is nails short. imo! but if you like it who cares what anyone else thinks?! enjoy it!

ComeOVeneer · 16/02/2007 14:52

I have to say I like them. As long as they are relatively short I think they make nails look neat and clean (the white bit mustn't be too big). I don't really like dark coloured talons, prefer a more natural look.

TheBlonde · 16/02/2007 15:04

I like them but not on v long nails
Used to do my own back when I had the time

agree naff on long nails, v chic on shorter ones

[wistfully recalls days of cheap Hackney manicures]

SmileysPeople · 16/02/2007 15:09

Oh no, if I have the arcylic EVER, all shout NOOOO at me!!

I'm thinking of putting french manicure into the 'naff but I like it anyway category'.

and doing it again.

My nails are naturally quite long, but usually long, uneven and untidy as I don't file or bother with them. Now they're shorter and square and they look so neat and pretty

I had an american the other day, its a bit more natural looking than a french manicure. I would never do acrylic again once is enough!!

quokka · 16/02/2007 15:16

I promise I'm not following you SmileysPeople!

SmileysPeople · 16/02/2007 15:18

gel ones are ok over your natural nail, again, if kept shortish and plainish

SmileysPeople · 16/02/2007 15:19

I had acyrlic (short) fench manicure for my wedding as the stress had caused me to take up bitting my nails again . But usually I have it doe on my own fairly short nails. I can't have particularly long nails working as a dentist anyway, plus I think it is important when working on people with your hand that your nails looked well cared for.

quokka · 16/02/2007 15:20

right must wake lo's up now!

madmarchhare · 16/02/2007 15:20

Coloured gel is good too, esp over christmas or hols as it stays looking good and doesnt chip off.

lulumama · 16/02/2007 15:20

i always french manicure my own nails and toes!!

lulumama · 16/02/2007 15:21

finger & toe nails obviously !

SmileysPeople · 16/02/2007 15:23

Hadn't thought of doing my toe nails.

Right, I'm feelig more confident now, if lulumama does it it must be good taste.

Flourishing my nails as I type.

May get a kit and try myself.

I have acrylics and love em love em love em.

I always think a french manicure looks very neat and classy

Dinosmum · 16/02/2007 15:25

Really don't like them on toes.

Radley · 16/02/2007 15:29

I love em on toes, during winter I have chanel rough noir and during summer I have french manicure finger and toe nails.

lulumama · 16/02/2007 15:29

i am ,indeed , an arbiter of all that is tasteful and stylish !

SmileysPeople · 16/02/2007 15:29
