If you're around the 40 mark please please can you tell me or show me what you are wearing to your Christmas do?! I've spent all day looking & am getting nowhere!

I went shopping all day today to find something to wear to my
Christmas party which will be a dinner & band in a smart hotel.
After hours of traipsing round I still have nothing!

I think it's my age, 41, i just don't know what to wear or which shops to buy from. Alot of the shops i like ie Warehouse, Oasis suddenly feel too young for me so I tried Phase Eight & Monsoon amongst others & they felt too old.

My body shape doesn't help as I'm 5'3 so most dresses were too long. I'm a size 12 but with a bit of a tum so things fit well on my shoulders but then are a bit tight round the middle. If I go up a size they are too big on shoulders!

I've been looking on line tonight but am just going round in circles.

I'd be grateful for any advice or examples of what other people are wearing.

Thanks ELR they are both stunning but the model in both has such a flat tummy which I don't😬.

That's because she's probably a size 6-8!!! Im a good size 12 but look nice in both dresses with womanly curves!

Have you considered 2 pieces? You could get the skirt and top in different sizes. Something along these lines from Mint Velvet.

I also have several All Saints dresses that I love but it's too cold at this time of year to wear them!

Just shy of the 40 bracket but wearing this from Phase Eight with black skinnies and heeled boots on Christmas day.

Wearing this dress (longer on my 5'5" self) with opaques and ankle boots for night out one and this for the next night out with pointed courts and a kick ass clutch.

What about something like these two? They are both stretchy so the shoulders will fit and the tummy will be gently draped over.

Oh. They are both Oasis but I think they are lovely, I tried the jumper dress on the other day and it was so comfy too.

I've bought a silver pleated skirt to wear with a plain black tee or vest and bangle and earrings. Midi length. Anthropologie. They do it in velvet as well and in pink.

Have you checked Finery? They have really interesting clothes but not too pricey.

I'm 41 and want a break from skirts/dresses. I'm wearing burgundy skinny coated pleather jeans, a v-neck black top that's a bit drapey to hide my tum (I have a massive bloody hernia) and black heels. Lots of chunky silver jewellery.

This is amazing if you are worried about your tummy! I managed to wear a dress that had been a definite no before I put this wonder garment on underneath.

Im 45 And apple shaped with huge boobs and top half size 16 but I'm tall with long legs.

Huge budget cuts this year mean no fancy party. So they get no fancy outfit from me. I can wear this again and again and it was super cheap.

I haven't got a link to my Christmas dress but it's a 50's deep red floor-length silk ball gown sewn from a vintage pattern. (I'm 42.)

I've got the Body version of that Buzz, I wish I bought yours though as it gives me a VPL big time!

I bought it off Ebay - worn once Amanda Wakeley silk dress. It was such a good experience, I'd highly recommend looking on Ebay for something a bit more structured (designer) at High St prices.
