Why doesn't this dress look right?

I'm shortly returning to work from mat leave and my wardrobe needs a bit of attention. Have just ordered this from Boden and not sure if I like it. I like the idea of it. Had a knitted dress for years and so easy to throw on in the morning, but it got threadbare in the elbows (😳).

So this one. Does it just need a good iron? Is it too short? Is the waist in the wrong place (never really thought of myself as long-waisted but I've had this impression a few times recently)? Are the shoes wrong? Or am I just used to seeing myself in jeans and have forgotten how to dress for work?

Help!!!

I think you look great too, but navy would probably be better for work.

AgathaMystery · 01/11/2016 23:45

Agree that you Look awesome but the dress proportions are off. Can you send it back & get this instead, I think you would look fab:

Honestly... I think the navy would have been much nicer. The dress is fine but the waist is too low and it is too long. I think if they did a petite size it would look much better. You have a fab figure that the poor dress is not living up to!

Kikibanana86 · 01/11/2016 23:53

I just think it's too long.

I don't get all the boob comments? They're not particularly big and the neck is quite high cut!?

Fozzleyplum · 02/11/2016 00:03

IMO it's not bad- but that's only because you have a very good shape. I think you could find something much more flattering.
Here's why I think that:

-colour is a bit casual/ cheap looking and does not look good with black tights and shoes;

  • the dress is a little bit too tight, especially on the top half; it seems to be flattening your chest. I think a size up would be better on the top, but possibly a bit big elsewhere. This might just be the wrong shape dress for you.
  • It's slightly short waisted on you. I have a similar problem with Boden dresses, but they look even shorter on me.

You have the sort of figure that is going to look ok in most things, but I wouldn't settle for a half-fit if I were you.

Florathefern · 02/11/2016 01:11

I think the stripes are in the wrong place and it looks stretched across the chest. You have a lovely figure but this dress doesn't flatter you.

ThatsNotMyToddler · 02/11/2016 02:14

Agatha I bought that at the same time but it doesn't sit right either. And I don't really like the fabric irl. My years of Boden dresses for work may be over.

I think it looks fantastic on you, the dress is fine but I don't think the black tights or boots go. You either need flesh tights and maybe black boots or flesh tights and different footwear all together. It is a booby dress but if you have boobs what can you do?

amysmummy12345 · 02/11/2016 05:36

The arms don't sit right, like they've shrunk in the wash.. Your figure is amazing!!

Tryanythingonce16 · 02/11/2016 05:47

I think you could find a much nicer dress. I get the boobs comments. Its the scoop neck I think. I am exactly the same. Mine look huge in a dress like that but I look in proportion in a different style.

You could probably wear pretty much anything else!

kipkipkip · 02/11/2016 06:43

Bin the dress!
(Or eBay it as it's Boden). Smile

blueshoes · 02/11/2016 07:32

Agree that the fit and flare dress that Agatha linked to is a better colour, shape and thicker material which is more suitable for the office and flattering for your amazing figure.

AgathaMystery · 02/11/2016 07:38

Bit grown up by Phase8 have some absolute beauties at the moment.

GettingitwrongHauntingatnight · 02/11/2016 07:43

Looks great

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 02/11/2016 07:51

Waist is too low. That and you can see way too much of your boob shape. Shouldn't be seeing the inner curves of them like that!

BWatchWatcher · 02/11/2016 08:21

I don't get the booby comments either. They aren't inappropriate.
The colour is wrong though and with grey dresses you need either a navy or grey or contrasting tight. Black is too dark.
Fab figure though!

DamePastel · 02/11/2016 08:34

Of course, I did not put anywhere near this much thought in to what I wore to work yesterday! So don't be overwhelmed by 68 pieces of advice!

ThatsNotMyToddler · 02/11/2016 08:45

😂😂 Thanks Dame (and everyone else!)

For me it's the waistband, it just sits in the wrong place. Something else would look much better.

Mamia15 · 02/11/2016 09:40

Its not you, its the dress - its too casual for work, it would be better without the pink stripes and in a darker colour.

101handbags · 02/11/2016 14:29

It looks great on you, keep it, but maybe for weekends? The skirt needs an iron, that's all.

rollonthesummer · 02/11/2016 14:33

It looks too tight around the boobs and tummy-I would try the next size up as it would probably be more flattering.

FatOldBag · 02/11/2016 14:44

You look gorgeous.
