Can we talk about pants?

Can we talk about pants please?! ☺️

I don't know why it never occurred to me before that I might need to wear a different pant style"

Since being a teen I've always worn just plain bikini briefs ( hate thongs, tried Spanx on special occasions and hate the restricted and overly hot feeling).

I've never had a flat tummy - even before babies. It's now even less flat than before of course. It doesn't bother me especially, life's too short and I'm not going to have a tummy tuck ever so no point worrying about it.

But, I think the bikini briefs aren't helping. My hips / bum are quite small so I wear a 12/14, but it has the undesirable effect of kind of scooping up my tummy and pushing it over the top band. Doesn't make for a great outline in skirts / dresses.

Do I need big Bridget Jones pants? Happy to try if it helps, but really hate the feeling of hardcore control underwear.

Thoughts on pants please 😆

I used to like tanga briefs, but you can't seem to get them now... I mean the narrow or string sides with full bum coverage, not the thongs.

My belly sticks out more than my backside.. I have a completely flat butt...
I discovered quite by accident that my teenage sons (clean) H&M boxer shorts fitted me perfectly.. they are wonderful in winter as they come down slightly on my thigh, NEVER ride up and have a very substantial waistband and they are so warm and comfy ( I have to do playground duty every day at work for at least an hour....) They are not unlike M&S thigh/tum/bum shapers(hence the mix up..) but they are cotton not Lycra so are quite forgiving. I now buy my own in different colours to his so they don't get mixed up in the laundry....
They are called boxers and can be found in the boys section. I wear age 12-14 or 14+... and they don't have a front opening either!!!!

M and S brazilian knickers

BabyGanoush · 02/11/2016 22:12

Nonameqt, I steal my husband's Calvins Grin

When I need no vpl (smart fitted dress), I just wear tights with no knickers

Or M&S brazilian (but only some styles)

It is a minefield.

margaritasbythesea · 03/11/2016 09:07

I wish M and S - or anyone - would do some no VPL knickers made of cotten. I can't stand any lace or plasticky stuff round my bits.

FV45 · 03/11/2016 09:17

gigg I used to like the tanga ones as well. I still have scraggy pairs.
I like my backside to be covered but I have a flat belly so don't need massive pants.

SuperFlyHigh · 03/11/2016 09:53

Bikini briefs normally from Accessorize, Top Shop or M&S. in recent months its been more M&S as they're 100% cotton (or the ones I have got). also TK Maxx Pretty Polly

SuperFlyHigh · 03/11/2016 09:56

SharingMichelle I found the same with a 4 or 5 pack of H&M briefs - nice colours, cotton but barely covered anything and seemed quite badly made. not worth the money!

I guess it all depends on your shape.
I am pear shaped with a large rear, small waist and flat tummy. I don't want tummy support but I do want pants that don't slide down at the back. I loathe "low rise" anything.
I've just discovered Asda lace top shorts. So perfect I've thrown out my entire knicker drawer and re stocked with these.

BabyGanoush · 03/11/2016 15:49

Evaristo, my figure is like yours.

Have just ordered the knickers based on this thread!!!!

Evariste · 03/11/2016 16:13

Hope you agree BabyGanous !
I've worn shorts style for a long time because I don't like them tight on the leg or wedgy, but these are just a bit higher at the back than others. Wash nicely as well.
As with most clothes I err on the larger size as nothing is better when it's tight IMO.

SweetChickadee · 03/11/2016 16:20

every pair of full knickers I've ever tried goes straight up my bum within minutes

so I wear thongs and cut out the middle man Grin

BabyGanoush · 03/11/2016 18:40

Evaristo, I so agree!

When my clothes are tight they ride up or down, nightmare

I err on the side of loose fitting. I like clothes that "hang", not "sit"

I am a size12/14, and always buy a 14 (though it sometimes bags like mad at the waist then, in which case it's a return)

Finding things that fit when you have small-waist-big-hips is a challenge in the UK, as most clothes are cut straight up and down (Boden is a prime example of this)
