Can we talk about pants?

Can we talk about pants please?! ☺️

I don't know why it never occurred to me before that I might need to wear a different pant style"

Since being a teen I've always worn just plain bikini briefs ( hate thongs, tried Spanx on special occasions and hate the restricted and overly hot feeling).

I've never had a flat tummy - even before babies. It's now even less flat than before of course. It doesn't bother me especially, life's too short and I'm not going to have a tummy tuck ever so no point worrying about it.

But, I think the bikini briefs aren't helping. My hips / bum are quite small so I wear a 12/14, but it has the undesirable effect of kind of scooping up my tummy and pushing it over the top band. Doesn't make for a great outline in skirts / dresses.

Do I need big Bridget Jones pants? Happy to try if it helps, but really hate the feeling of hardcore control underwear.

Thoughts on pants please 😆

I wore Sloggis for years until the zig zag edging on the legs started to irritate me. I wish they would use normal elastic

Comingfoccacia · 01/11/2016 20:16

Full briefs all tbe way. Maybe with a bit if lace on if I'm feeling fancy. I love 'em, huge pants to cover a huge arse Grin

Comingfoccacia · 01/11/2016 20:18

Just realised that "full briefs" is a bit of an oxymoron!

Catra · 01/11/2016 21:18

I'm also a fan of M&S high legs with the lace around the top. I used to wear the bikini briefs from M&S but I'm carrying a bit of weight on my stomach right now, so prefer to cover more of it.

KeyserSophie · 01/11/2016 23:10

M&S low rise bikini briefs, or sometimes a similar style from Gap just to be crazy. Plain style, no lace or frills. I have a flat stomach but a lot of junk in the trunk so these are comfy and flattering.

Occasionally I decide to break free and buy a different style but I always regret it.

Cakescakescakes · 01/11/2016 23:25

M&S midis! Full bottom and tum coverage!

NotYoda · 02/11/2016 05:38

I also wear M&S Midi ones. The problem with lots of tummy control ones is that either they ride up or there is elastic round the bottom edge creating VPL. I hate VPL more than tummy.

The ones I wear have a completely flat seam around the bottom, not even lace

NotYoda · 02/11/2016 05:41

Actually, mine aren't Midi, they are Low Rise No VPL shorts (M&s)

Waterlemon · 02/11/2016 06:56

I can only wear cotton knickers, which are so hard to find!

I've always worn M&S high legs but I find the quality and fit of the cotton ones really poor lately.

The multipacks are terrible, but they never have any cotton size 14s in the single pick and mix section.

I started buying from bhs but now they are sadly gone I'm going to end up knicker less if I don't find somewhere else soon!

I do also have shorts from uniqlo. They are great under dresses or when it's cold out. The waistband comes up to a similar height as the high legs so I don't get the tummy shelf thing.

sandgrown · 02/11/2016 07:13

Went to buy some high legs from M&s last week but sold out in my size. This thread explains why! Have tried various supermarket knickers but they soon fall apart

NicknameUsed · 02/11/2016 09:06

"whats with all the thong/brazilian stuff? when I tried to buy cheapo knickers in M&S sale they were nearly all this style "

Probably because no-one buys them. I hate thongs. They are so uncomfortable, and I'm sure they can't be good for you.

M and S used to do seam free high leg cotton briefs, but they no longer do them. All the seam free, no VPL stuff isn't 100% cotton, and I can't bear not wearing cotton pants.

nannybeach · 02/11/2016 10:37

depends what you are wearing on top. Unfortunately a few years back got a latex allergy, I cant wear stretchy lace or anything near my groin containing elastic/elastane. So "boy boxers" in cotton for everyday, have got sloggi sports thongs so no VPL, but cannot wear them for very long.

singleandfabulous · 02/11/2016 11:06

I was coming on here to suggest m&s high leg pants but see others have beaten me to it. Get the 'no vpl' ones in a 12. youll be fine. Essentially those of us with small arses and hips need the material at the top (tummy area) not the bottom (arse area).

Avoid 'boy shorts' at all costs. On me, they simply allow my belly to overhang whilst slipping down my non-existent hips and arse, leaving me with a band of material under my arse like a sling by mid-morning.

Avoid. Sloggie ate good, as are Victorias Secret.

singleandfabulous · 02/11/2016 11:09

nicknameused Its m&s's attempt at sexy without acknowledging the truth of their (older) customer profile.

I find thongs/g-strings ok if they have a cotton gusset. I make sure i size up too to avoid them being too tight and uncomfortable but we have the ideal arse/hips for them.

singleandfabulous · 02/11/2016 11:10

should be Sloggie ARE good not ate good.

idontlikealdi · 02/11/2016 11:12

M&S shorts with the lace top. They look rather similar to the high legs pictured up thread.

P1nkP0ppy · 02/11/2016 11:17

M&S high rise Brazilians are fantastic, they don't rise up, no VPL and come up to your waist so no overhang either.

Saci · 02/11/2016 13:21

I'm in Brazil so I wear Brazilian cut knickers. You can't get much else. They are the most comfortable knickers I have had. When I was in the UK I used to get Brazilian knickers in M&S and Primark. Never found them elsewere.

murphys · 02/11/2016 13:23

Do you not get Jockeys in UK? These are all cotton and have to be one of the most popular brands here. With the heat, cotton is important. Both dd and ds only wear Jockeys.

I usually wear Sloggies, but I did find a load of M&S ones in a shop that sells overruns (we don't have m&s here) and they were lovely. Just a shame I cant find anymore. They look like the black ones in the picture, but they have no elastic on the edges. I wear a lot of maxi dresses and hate it when the elastic shows. The problem with Sloggis lately though is that they seemed to have made the gusset (hate that word) narrower... Blush, so after a while it sort of all gathers up there.... I have the hipster ones but Im falling out with them. I love the Sloggi bra's though..

PollysPoppy · 02/11/2016 14:09

John Lewis 5 pack Pima cotton bikini briefs - give good coverage and aren't too low on the tummy. And comfortable!!

BendyBusBuggy · 02/11/2016 14:21

LadyPenelope68, please could you post a link to the kickers in the picture? I can't find them on the m&s website .

TollgateDebs · 02/11/2016 14:45

Sloggies fan here too. Comfortable and wash well and last for ages.

ShelaghTurner · 02/11/2016 14:50

I just want pants that don't fall down. I have a huge arse, you'd think getting pants to stay up would be no problem but I'm constantly walking round with a puddle of pants in my crotch, only saved from slipping to the floor by my trousers. There must be better pants than these.

(Full brief, M&S if you're interested)

SpunkyMummy · 02/11/2016 16:21

Sloggies and M&S

GhettoFabulous · 02/11/2016 20:40

Debenhams full briefs, 5 pairs for 8 quid. Comfy and give a great, smooth line under clothes. Fab quality too.
