Victoria Beckham, anorexic or victim of the press?

Ive just finnished watching 'Whats eating Victoria Beckham'. Am i the only one who thinks that she is being victamised? Do you think she is too thin? I think that she is very slim, but i feel very irritated by people calling her ill, is it because in this day and age when a 3rd of the population are obese we find a very slender girl intimidating and anorexic looking? Im 10.5 so its not that im skinny. What are your thoughts?

Was this the programme about zero size? didnt watch the start so wasnt sure of what it was called.

AitchTwoOh · 07/02/2007 22:25

what about both? i'd find her many millions of pounds a comfort.

Heathcliffscathy · 07/02/2007 22:25

both.

agreed aitch.

suzycreamcheese · 07/02/2007 22:26

in answer i think

victim of herself
and eating disorder

didnt see programme but she looks like cartoon character w/ boobs on stick its not attractive in the least i think

she uses the press and yes, they use her no sympathy on that score at all

puffling · 07/02/2007 22:26

She's too thin and she's not a victim. She makes her money by aggressive self promotion.

NadineBaggott · 07/02/2007 22:26

Victoria Beckham is responsible for her own actions.

She's too thin much thinner than when she started in Spice Girls and she was slim then.

You only have to see her in action, everything is a photo-opportunity. Poses with David are not about a celebrity couple they are about her draping herself and turning on the pout, I've never seen a natural shot of her yet.

I'm sure she's a lovely girl but she comes across as very superficial.

Saturn74 · 07/02/2007 22:28

I don't know about the reality of her health, as I don't know her personally.
I don't care about her enough to get irritated by whatever people say about her.
I don't think she is being victimised.
She chooses to live her life in the public domain, and that comes with strings.
The press interest provides her with a platform from which to sell whatever product is next on her agenda.

AitchTwoOh · 07/02/2007 22:28

but nadine, she uses oil of olay...

NadineBaggott · 07/02/2007 22:30

I don't talk about clients .....

AitchTwoOh · 07/02/2007 22:30

i do think she's the victim of an eating disorder. but as i say, the millions would help...

AitchTwoOh · 07/02/2007 22:31

you do talk fluent boswellox, however.

swalesie · 07/02/2007 22:38

OOOPS! But does anyone else think, so fuck the girls skinny, let her just get on with it? Wouldnt mind being a bit thinner myself. Do people honestly think she looks like she has a problem? I seriously dont!

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 07/02/2007 22:44

she's admitted to having anorexia.

wotzsaname · 07/02/2007 22:44

swalesie i see from you other post you have been drinking wine....steady on girl.

nearlythree · 07/02/2007 22:46

Feel deeply sorry for her. Nothing about her looks or life to envy whatsoever. Am worried that one day my dds will want to be like her though.

Lizzylou · 07/02/2007 22:51

I think she is suffering from an eating disorder and also a victim of her own hype.
She is an average looking girl married to a very good looking (albeit dim) man, a few years back when all of his infidelities were being reported and almost every celeb female saying he was their "most fancied male", she got more and more insecure. I don't think that it's any coincidence that she got very thin after the birth of her first son, she obv thinks thin=beautiful.
I find her quite sad, actually, I feel sorry for her.

swalesie · 07/02/2007 22:56

hermykne · 07/02/2007 23:03

swalesie
watching supermini me on bbbc 3 tonight illustrated just how bad this image is,
at the clothes show the presenter set up a fake model stand recruiting asking them would they basically lose 2 stone if necessary and live on a tomato maybe a rie cake a day to be a US size 0, they all said yes - for money /fame / a lifestyle thats been portrayed as fabulous.

having her bloods taken on the size 0 diet she was told to stop her white cell blood count was too low with her family histroy of cancer her antioxcidents were far too low as well.

she nded up losing 17lbs over 8wks to be 9st 6!!!

size 0 is madness and there are people who should be held accountable for it.

its damaging teenagers now, and depressing lots of women.

swalesie · 07/02/2007 23:06

Gutted you should pop round to mine, dp is away and has just bought a case of v expensive wine, you should come round we could un epriciate it together!

Ok i understand what your saying, but surley if she was that ill and 'anorexic' she wouldnt be able to have children?

I didn't see the programme, but I don't think VB is suffering from an eating disorder in the true sense of the word - I think there is a separate 'celebrity disorder' which has quite different symptoms to anorexia - the main one being that a typical anorexic will hide their weight loss and figure, whereas a typical celebrity will flaunt it. Anorexia and bulimia are secretive illnesses. It is too simplistic to say that a very thin celebrity has an eating disorder, and probably doesn't help either a celebrity or someone with anorexia.
