Fashion rules that don't work for you

As the owner of ample boobs, I look incredibly frumpy in v-necks, not much better in scooped. Boat, crew and slashed necks are much more flattering for me, no matter what every style guide says.

And I love clashing colours. Red looks great with purple and I love the contrast of orange and pink.

I'm looking for new winter looks so please inspire me with your cavalier disregard for Trinny, Gok, et all.

Polo necks look lovely on me despite E cup boobs and broad shoulders. As do slash-necks.

Skinny jeans are the only ones I can pull off; flares and bootlegs do nothing bar make me look like a potato.

I always thought the black and colour thing was more referring to black trousers and skirts as worn to work - I will wear my black skinnies for example with a jewel tone top which looks fine.

It's not a rule per se but I don't understand women who shop with the main aim being to look "smart". E.g. needing a smart black coat or smart jacket. It's such a boring thing to aspire to. To me it's like buying stuff you kinda hate but will be ignored by others so becomes acceptable. You can look put together and appropriate for a work setting without being stuffy.

Not to mix black and navy. Balls to that.

I also like to throw caution to the wind and wear black tights with tan boots.

Screw you fashion rules saying black boots black tights.

Nickname I'm small of boob & find cowl necks give me a bust I don't have Smile

Re the black with Jewel colours, if you believe in colour matching then this combination works because they are both in the winter palette, all strong cool colours. Where black works less well is with pastels and warm colours like orange, teal, warm yellows, turquoise etc. Sometimes black with colour looks un thought through, as per flo's comment and I think a lot of the time a black skirt is thrown on with whatever colour top and it doesn't always work. Imo opinion black with some colours works but not all and it does need some thought before assuming that black goes with everything.

FurryLittleTwerp · 02/10/2016 12:47

Agree Fuzzy - I like black with cool &/or strong colours.

I think people often view black as "not a colour" (technically it isn't in scientific terms), a bit like blue jeans being "not a colour" but "just jeans".

Fuzzy I only wear winter colours so that is why I queried the black with colours thing.

Furry I forgot about cowl necks. Yes, they are my friend.

TeenyfTroon · 02/10/2016 15:06

The colours I've worn with black are always strong 'winter' colours. Maybe that's why I think they look good. Pastels make me look very sick!

FurryLittleTwerp · 02/10/2016 19:49

Pastels make me look sick as well teeny, even the "Icy Yellow* that is supposed to be a winter colour!

Another one with larger bust, v neck issues. I have a short torso, higher bust, with the fullest part of my bust being the bit that doesn't go into my bra. I look like an old fashioned bar maid, and a full v comes lower than my bra. Not attractive
