Red to a Wedding?

atetoomanybiscuits · 12/09/2016 13:47

Can I wear this to a wedding or is it a faux pas? The wedding is at a very high end mansion/no church element. I'm there day and evening. TYIA!

What's wrong with your arms? They look fine to me!

atetoomanybiscuits · 12/09/2016 20:40

Thanks Rum!!

Destiny... I'm missing the revealing bit?! I'm covered except for shoulders and most prople surely have either legs or chest /arms showing?i hate revealing stuff as my skin is awful!

I love this from ASOS that I am planning to wear for a wedding.

I'm also a 12 and pretty tall at 5ft9. The normal one seems a good length for me but they have the same dress in the Tall range if you want more length.

atetoomanybiscuits · 12/09/2016 20:43

That's gorgeous Jamie! I have a varicose vein, stretch marks, and scars on my legs. It's a no go without tights sadly and that would look awful X

Are you looking mainly for a maxi? I know what you mean about tights - that length looks odd with tights, but would you be happier for a shorter dress in a similar style with sleeves etc that you could wear with tights?

BennyTheBall · 12/09/2016 20:50

It looks gorgeous on you -but I think it's ott for a UK wedding.

If you're in the US, it would be fine as they tend to wear evening dress for weddings.

JamieVardysParty · 12/09/2016 21:01

Just had a very quick look on ASOS for maxi + sleeves - I apologise if the following are in the 50 that you've already tried!

maroon

coral

tea dress

long sleeves

Love the colour of the second one but think the last 2 are easy to dress up without looking OTT like maxis can sometimes. I think the tea dress in particular is very pretty and easy to wear without making you look like a potential bridesmaid.

5OBalesofHay · 12/09/2016 21:02

It's evening dress. No way can you wear it before dinner.

atetoomanybiscuits · 12/09/2016 21:03

Jamie, yes agreed! I love midi length, but my legs are awful. Would prefer shorter with tights, but then it looks odd in warm weather. Maxi look like a burka, flouncy, too black tie or bridesmaidy in everything I've found.
Benny, no UK!

Wow - thanks Jamie, sadly all those styles I know look terrible on me. I look huge or mumsy.

50, ok thank you!

Maybe have to find trousers 😩

ChaChaChaCh4nges · 12/09/2016 21:06

Even in navy I don't think it's right for a wedding. Sorry.

atetoomanybiscuits · 12/09/2016 21:08

Ok thanks Chacha! Appreciate all the feedback...

Atetoomanybiscuits

That dress is beautiful on u..and with a shawl and a pretty necklace would look lovely for a wedding.
I would definately go for it :)

JamieVardysParty · 12/09/2016 21:12

Ok last one - I promise! That I think would actually look alright with tights

here

I think a shorter pencil style may be the way to go. There do seem to more of them with sleeves but also the fitted style that would suit you. Also they do come across as more casual/less glam for a day wedding.

Fingermoose · 12/09/2016 21:14

I think that navy one suits you far more than the red one on the model. Really elegant OP - I'd wear it!

ChaChaChaCh4nges · 12/09/2016 21:23

Oh, I absolutely agree that you look stunning in the navy - absolutely. You just need to find the right occasion!

atetoomanybiscuits · 12/09/2016 21:23

Mummy and Red - thank you very much! Im so confused given people's strong opinions!

Jamie- you're awesome! I really like that style, but I look terrible in green. I might search for something similar. I ordered a navy long sleeve lace top skater dress, but it's not shown up. I think it'll be too short anyhow, but the whole tights thing in September is a bit weird too.

atetoomanybiscuits · 12/09/2016 21:24

Thank you Chacha- I'm keeping it anyway, hoping I get invited somewhere tres posh!

Kikibanana86 · 12/09/2016 21:28

I don't think it's too revealing at all your only showing your shoulders ffs! Wear it! Red or navy!

atetoomanybiscuits · 12/09/2016 21:32

Thanks Kiki! I missed the revealing bit too😉

JamieVardysParty · 12/09/2016 21:32

Definitely consider Paper Dolls - every single dress I've seen by them is pencil dress style with sleeves without looking too office-like.

Your figure is amazing, so pretty sure you will find something absolutely stunning. Hopefully you have some sort of Christmas type formal party where you can wear the gorgeous navy dress. It would look amazing with a fur shrug type thing!

atetoomanybiscuits · 12/09/2016 21:40

Aww you're lovely thank you Jamie. Confidence boost for a 'fat girl in my head'. Great tip on paper dolls- I love this one, but out of stock, will keep looking X

I love this

although maybe it covers too much?

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 12/09/2016 21:41

I think it's lovely and easy to make it look less 'sexy' than the website photo. Every wedding I have ever been to I've seen loads of people wearing long dresses, I personally think the length is fine. No one will look at it and think it's inappropriate.

And who cares if OP is put at the back for photos? It's not her wedding so it's a bonus being in the photos not a right!
