biker jacket? I want to like it but I feel ridiculous in it.

Spent nearly £300 on one from Jigsaw - gutted.

I think it is entirely possible you neice has an agenda Semi

They look better with dresses and something a bit more feminine I think.

sportinguista · 10/09/2016 13:35

That's not a biker jacket, it's a kind of pretend biker jacket!

I have the proper heavy bike jackets, painted and all. Not sure about these fashion ones. Mine are all second hand so cost nowhere near £300.

Bambooshoots14 · 10/09/2016 13:46

it looks like I should accessorise it with a guitar amp Grin

Judydreamsofhorses · 10/09/2016 14:03

I have two - grey Warehouse, black Whistles - and really love them, I think they go with so much and are just easy to wear. I am a bit gobsmacked that you'd spend £300 without being 100% sure, but yes, stick it on eBay and get some of the money back.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 10/09/2016 14:12

It might soften up and feel a bit more lived in after a few wears? They're not for everyone though. I have no desire to wear one.

Your other option is to buy a motorbike or join a band so the jacket feels more authentic.

ShelaghTurner · 10/09/2016 14:30

That's a biker jacket?? Blimey I'm more out of touch than I thought. That's just a short leather jacket. No amps or bikes required.

Ememem84 · 10/09/2016 14:44

Me!me! I can't wear them. I just think I look like a gigantic douche.

In other people they look super stylish. On me not so much. Sad

hollieberrie · 10/09/2016 14:51

I can't wear them either. I think i look too butch masculine. I feel more me in a snuggly parka..

SuperFlyHigh · 10/09/2016 14:52

That's not a biker more like blazer style cropped jacket with biker detailing.

CocoLoco87 · 10/09/2016 15:05

It's a gorgeous jacket!

BlueEyedWonder · 10/09/2016 15:07

I completely get what you're saying OP.
I bought a black leather one from ASOS for around £125.
Husband loves it and work colleagues have made favourable comments when I wear it. But me? I feel ridiculous! Like I'm having a mid life crisis (I'm almost 40!!) or trying to be something I'm really not.
I've hung into mine to give it one more go this autumn but suspect I'll eBay it.

Glitterspy · 10/09/2016 15:08

Hmm, as an example of a biker-style jacket the styling is very middle of the road, as pps have said its really just a plain leather jacket with a couple of bikers details (ie, zip and quilting). I think it's a bit 'safe' and maybe if you'd gone for something a bit edgier you might feel like you look better in it as it would be a bit more authentic?

I have a Vanessa Bruno Athe one it cost half my monthly income five years ago but still looks a little tight really great

80sWaistcoat · 10/09/2016 15:10

They don't suit me, which is a shame as I'd love one. I think they look better on more feminine types. I look v butch in them. Like an ageing roadie.

ElspethFlashman · 10/09/2016 15:10

I discovered after many years of trying them on and feeling foolish, that it's the big stiff collar that was the problem.

Found one in Topshop with no collar and it's been transformative. And you can wear loads of big scarves with it as there's nothing sticking up at your neck.

I looove it.

paddypants13 · 10/09/2016 15:11

I'd wanted one for years. Finally tried one on, looked like a dog's dinner.

They look so good on other people. Envy

ElspethFlashman · 10/09/2016 15:12

This is my one - see how there's only half a collar? Makes it a lot more feminine.

BabyGanoush · 10/09/2016 15:20

I know what you mean OP!

It's a bit like saying :"look at me trying so hard"...

I bought one 10 yrs ago, and have worn it only very occasionally.

They look very conspicuous when new and shiny.

After 7 years (7! 😱) of umming and ah-ing I just started wearing it loads last year. A few rainy days helped take away the shininess, and I now throw it on like cardi, over a dress, on mild autumn/spring days.

You need to wear it for a few days solid to get rid of the stiffness and the shininess.

Don't wait 7 years! Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/09/2016 15:50

I chuck mine around the bedroom and hit them a bit before wearing. Lets me release my inner cave woman.

cheeseandmarmite15 · 10/09/2016 15:56

I look too Alice Cooper in black leather nowadays so I have bought this

www.asos.com/barney's-originals/barney's-originals-leather-biker-jacket-with-quilting-and-buckle-detail/prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=6806732&clr=Tan&SearchQuery=Biker+jacket&pgesize=36&pge=1&totalstyles=127&gridsize=3&gridrow=9&gridcolumn=3

It's tan, a bargain and the colour suits me and I wear blue and denim.

It is available in black on the website.

It's leather so my vegan daughter can't 'borrow' it either!

RosieLig · 10/09/2016 17:15

I like that tan one - not sure the colour would suit me though as I look better in darker/cooler shades.

I think I could get past the tit bit but the other thing is that the zips are a brass colour which really doesn't suit me. I need silver. So I think I'm going to sell it and maybe try one with silver hardware. Am I mad?!! Maybe I should give up but I saw a woman today wearing one (we're up north!) and she looked v cool. So maybe a cheaper one but I'll be really strict with myself and any doubts it will be returned straight away! Anyone tried the top shop ones?

OP posts:
One2another · 10/09/2016 17:17

I wear mi e with shirts and leggings, jeans and ankle boots or heels, dresses! It's my go to jacket! I took ages to find the right one though, I tried loads. Some were too long and I felt a bit "status quo" as you said but I eventually found one that sits just on my waist and is fittedish from all saints. I love it.

mirpuppet · 10/09/2016 17:20

Why can't you return it?

CointreauVersial · 10/09/2016 17:20

I'm wearing one right now.

I think they look better in a colour other than black, which is a bit severe for some people. I have two biker jackets; one navy and one grey suede. And I'm well past the age of trying too hard.

flanjabelle · 10/09/2016 17:24

They make my shoulders look huge as I have wide shoulders anyway. It sucks as otherwise they suit my style perfectly.

vintagechick43 · 10/09/2016 17:46

It is a gorgeous jacket !!! I agree post a picture of you wearing it and we can give you an honest opinion.
