If you have your hair dyed in a salon how often do you have to return and how much does it cost you?

I have dark hair and am wanting to go lighter. So am thinking re growth/roots will need regular attention. I think I will need my hair bleaching first and then a colour putting on, so does that make it more expensive?

Am just worrying I can't afford like £100 every six weeks.

I haven't been to a hairdresser in years so clueless about prices.

I see the salon advertises highlights (maybe a half head?) and cut for £60.

But not sure how colouring compares to highlights.

I had my hair lighter for a few months but have gone back to my natural colour as the bleaching was wrecking my hair. I paid £95 every six weeks for my roots but that was at a very good overpriced salon in Glasgow.

I have a consultation next week which im thinking of cancelling.

I get my hair done very irregularly at a college salon. The last time I was there it was £25 for a full head colour with a qualified stylist.

ilovecherries · 27/08/2016 21:32

I pay 108 (was there yesterday, so I can be specific!) for a cut, colour and blow dry. In Carlisle. I go every 6 weeks - used to manage to spin it to 8, but as I get older it seems less forgiving.

ChesterFuckingDraws · 27/08/2016 21:38

I have very dark brown hair, I vary what I get done so first time I got full head highlights of different shades of lighter brown and blond, next time I got 1/2 head, next I got parting then back to full head.
I live outside of a capital city so my hairdresser is a bit cheaper, and the price varies from £75 to £50 doing it as above and I go every 8weeks.
I now barely notice the grey even though it's horrendous when I pay special attention to it. I got fed up of being lighter and went back to full head colour but I hated how flat it looked so now in the process of going lighter again.

Blonde, going grey, alternate half head of highlights with full head every 8-10 weeks. Half head with CBD is about £100, full head with CBD £130ish. Outside London but not far outside. Very good local salon which I've been going to for a couple of years.

PikachuSayBoo · 27/08/2016 21:48

I was thinking something like this. I prefer the more lilac one but think my roots would be more noticable. I'm dark brown but quite a bit of grey.

37 pounds for roots every 3-4 weeks, South Coast (dark hair, largely grey now, under the bronde)

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 27/08/2016 22:08

I have low lights put through 3x a year and it's about £80 with a cut.

JaceLancs · 27/08/2016 22:30

£35 every 6 weeks for wash cut n root touch up which she then combs through
I don't get it blow dried as have curly hair and let it dry naturally also saves me money

LockedOutOfMN · 27/08/2016 22:50

I go every 9 weeks for the roots of my highlights. Could go less often (e.g. 12 weeks) but I really enjoy going to the hairdresser.

Jaimx86 · 27/08/2016 22:52

Cut and highlights £70 every 7-8 weeks.

ProseccoBitch · 27/08/2016 22:52

I'm naturally dark but dyed blonde with highlights. I go every eight weeks for a color, cut and blow dry and it's £80 for a half head and £90 for a full head. Only have a full head about every fourth time. I reckon £10 a week is reasonable to be happy with my hair Smile

Cathaka15 · 27/08/2016 22:56

£4/£6 every couple of months.Grin I usually visit sainsburys.

Just5minswithDacre · 27/08/2016 22:57

What's a 'half head'? (Sorry for dense question.)

PikachuSayBoo · 27/08/2016 23:13

Half head they just highlight the hair on top rather than right the way underneath.

I'm naturally brown haired but with too much grey. I have my hair done every 6-8 weeks, medium brown dye out on and full head of blonde highlights, cut and blowdry for £34 (not salon though my hairdresser works out of her home).

GeneralBobbit · 27/08/2016 23:24

I have full head of blonde highlights/light brown/gold (like Jennifer Aniston)

I go every 8/9 weeks and get a half head. Every third go I get a full head.

£60 half head, £80 full head ( including cut and blow dry)

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 27/08/2016 23:29

I'm sorry but that kind of very vibrant colour won't last six weeks. If you're lucky, it will only need to be re-toned every couple of weeks.

augustusglupe · 27/08/2016 23:32

I have very dark hair and grey roots...I get my roots done and a gloss every 5 weeks and a light trim, altogether costs me £130.

PikachuSayBoo · 27/08/2016 23:37

Think I might stick with home dyes, thanks.

£45 every six weeks for roots, cut and blow-dry. Full colour the first time was the same price.

OhGoshDarnIt · 28/08/2016 01:16

Mine is bleached and a toner out on, blow dried and straightened, get my roots done every 6-8 weeks. I pay £47.

I'm in Cumbria

Queenbean · 28/08/2016 01:20

I got to a top London salon and spend about £250 a time for balayage, baby lights, highlights, low lights and root lift. He does a brilliant job and I utterly trust him.

The way he does it is that even when the colour grows out it looks really natural so I don't go so often. Get my hair done 2-3 times a year.
