Please help me make this dress less grumpy.....

This is it. It fits nicely, it's a lovely colour and it was a bargain. But now I come to think about actually wearing it for a wedding, I have no ideas what to wear with it that won't look tedious and frumpy. It is crying out for nude courts, a pashmina and a fascinator - is there any way of escaping this??

I'm a size 12, with shoulder length red hair. I am awful at wearing heels but I think I will have to. I need a jacket maybe? Also some jewellery? A bag?

Suggestions for any of these would be very very very welcome. Also any reassurance that I haven't made a horrible horrible mistake and I can look young and pretty in it.....

I tried on a similar one in reiss but it was £££. So I got this one. But I don't like it as much at all and I'm sad 😢😢😢

Asos take their own photos and things always look less frumpy in them. This is the same Coast dress.

Whoever said hot pink is right in my opinion. Hot pink shoes would bring it bang on trend.

What are your feelings about black, OP? A black not too worky jacket, black suede flats or heels and a silver or hot pink bag might work, and those items would be easier to use again too.

Bargain black flats unless you a size 4 (which means I can't have them!).

Neon yellow would be good for shoes and bag, agree with Ouch. I don't think outlandish for jacket/shrug/bolero is a good idea though, you'll look like a flag or someone in uniform. Navy or black I think for the cover up.

Thanks ouch. I do sometimes wear a pashmina, for example if I'm at an evening party where we'll be outside. Clearly I'm making a fashion faux pas so I'll stop! I guess I'll have to get a bolero for the wedding outfit.

I agree with people who say that navy with that dress shrieks Tory garden party. I'd go with a contrasting colour like pink.

I love a pashmina- light to carry ( real pashmina not awful viscose) and handy.
I don't care whether they are fashionable or not.
To me neon yellow shoes are flashy/ trashy. Each to their own.

I've got black shoes, I would be v happy to wear them if they are ok. I'll try and get a photo. And a black jacket or bolero or something would be easier to find, I'm struggling to source a bright one. That boden one is nice but not in my size, but I get the idea.

Oh perfect!!! It's all coming together nicely!! I'll get a black jacket or shrug, an orange or pink or yellow clutch and maybe nails to match in case I put it down! Then I'll be all ready to go!!
