Things you said you'd never be seen dead wearing - but ate your words!

Crocs. Hate, hate, hate , HATE them!

I was out with my dogs and met a lady with a lovely pair of short yellow wellie type boots. I loved them but my face fell when she said they were crocs!

I had to havthouem though, they look so fab! My many wellies are tall and we have had lots of rain in Wales but I wanted something short and more summery so these for the bill perfectly and they are cute and quirky!

I bought a size up as I have wide feet and they fit perfectly! Comfortable too!

So, I have had to eat my words!

What about you? Have you ever done similar?

I always say I won't wear flares.

Then I buy and wear flares.

They look dreadful.

Cycle begins again.

KanyesVest · 03/08/2016 18:01

Uggs. I now have a beaut pair of ballet flats and converse type trainers. I've been living in both the last few weeks.

confusedandemployed · 03/08/2016 18:06

Uggs. Not the slipper boot type but a nice boot with a small wedge heel. I luvs 'em.

Skinny jeans. Tbh they're still not the most flattering shape for me but I've finally lost enough weight for them to look good enough.

noisyrice · 03/08/2016 18:08

Flares. I bought a pair of scarf print flares from Topshop, hid them in my wardrobe for about a year then wore them out. I felt confident, even though they were a tad bit long!Grin

Iamthegreatest1 · 03/08/2016 18:09

Uggs. The proper ugly boot/slipper type. They're so comfy.

CaveMum · 03/08/2016 18:09

I said I'd never wear skinny jeans as I'd spent half my working life in jodhpurs at that point. I now own 3 pairs.

Also said I'd never wear a maxi dress as I thought I was too short to carry them off, but then I became pregnant and the loose floaty wafting was a god send!

leccybill · 03/08/2016 18:15

Any flat shoes.
Leggings.
Skinny jeans.
A waterproof 'mum' jacket.

I now own all of the above.

EmpressTomatoKetchup · 03/08/2016 18:20

An anorak.
Crocs.
A fleece.
A "dog walking" coat I don't even own a dog

kavvLar · 03/08/2016 18:21

Skinny jeans.

Shoe boots.

kavvLar · 03/08/2016 18:40

Ps Curse you OP I have now become strangely drawn to those wellies. Life long Croc protester here.

Like lots of posters - skinnies. I still don't think they're flattering but because everyone wears them, no-one notices any more.

Glasses - which I now love.

eternalopt · 03/08/2016 19:10

Another vote for uggs here. Hated them. Then tried them when pregnant first time. Now can't survive winter without them, or rather fake uggs (or f-uggs as I call them) as I can't stomach spending that much on boots I always thought were ugly!

I think you're in the clear anyway OP. Those aren't crocs as such. They are cool wellies that happen to be made by the same company as the ugly shoes. That's OK in my book.

Crocs as also on my banned list, but my husband caved and bought a pair for pottering in the garden etc, and I have to admit they are dead handy for popping to the garage outside. So I haven't so much eaten my words, but I may have nibbled slightly by pinching his crocs to go outside!!

RoosterCogburn · 03/08/2016 19:25

I have those croc wellies - to make them sound less croc-y (as I am in denial) I refer to them as my Croots (croc-boots)

HippyPottyMouth · 03/08/2016 19:27

Boots over skinny jeans. I took the piss no end when they were first in fashion, making everyone look like they were auditioning for Dick Whittington, but in the end I succumbed and it's been a staple combination for a good 5 years now.

shins · 03/08/2016 19:34

Jumpsuits. Especially after I turned 40. But I was just drawn to them and eventually got one - I kind of love it!

needastrongone · 03/08/2016 19:41

A playsuit. I'm 44. Smile. It's plain navy, from Jack Wills, and incredibly flattering and comfortable.

Although, I am currently on holiday in the heat, will I pluck up the courage to wear it at home I wonder?

Girlwithnotattoos · 03/08/2016 19:41

So many 'I Will never wear' things on my list:

  1. Any shoes from Clarks (said as a teenager )
  2. Crocs - still thing they're ugly but great for camping.
  3. M&S Clothes - again said as a teenager
  4. Skinny jeans
  5. Flat shoes
PacificDogwod · 03/08/2016 19:43

MrsJayy · 03/08/2016 19:47

Jeggings daft looking things they are bloody comfy and i dont care.

I have crocs for camp sites I love them they mould to your feetstill fugly though

Vvlgari · 03/08/2016 19:53

Skinny jeans. Never out of them now.

I bought some flares six months ago and they look awful on. They're monumentally unflattering and I can't believe I wore them for so long.

NatureCreatesFreaks · 03/08/2016 20:05

Leggings, and skinny jeans.

I'm still on the no crocs side, but I do love those yellow ones and now I'm currently googling them :)

Solasum · 03/08/2016 20:11

A playsuit. I used to think they were too like baby clothes. Then I saw a mum with a Pram wearing one and she looked so elegant and crisp I bought one as similar as I could find.

brandyandsummergloves · 03/08/2016 20:12

Jersey printed harem type trousers. Thought I'd just look like MC Hammer. Bought some from eBay and they're actually quite flattering and comfy. Especially when it's too warm for jeans.

shirkingworking · 03/08/2016 20:12

Skinny jeans again - thought they weren't good for pear shapes (although I'm a fairly skinny pear). Wear them a lot at weekends now.

Dungarees - thought they should be limited to toddlers. Bought my first pair a few months ago (early 40s).
