Am I too old to get my nose pierced?

I'm 36, dress fairly young for my age. Can i get away with it or will people think I'm having a crisis? Grin

With tattoos and piercings the people who would be most likely to tell you you're too old are generally the same ones who don't like them anyway. Or they're the type who got a tiny tattoo at 18 just because it was an act of rebellion or what everyone else was doing, not because they actually genuinely love tattoos.

Go for it. You'll look fab Grin

Do it! I had mine done a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it, it was just what I needed to stop me feeling frumpy and middle-aged and as the woman in the shop said, if you're going to have a mid-life crisis there are worse things you can do Grin.

I'm 43 and had wanted it done for ages, I was worried I'd look sad and old and desperate but I don't care now, I've had lots of positive comments and I feel like me again - I haven't shown my parents either though!

Piercings & tattoos is a very difficult look to pull off. You can look either cool & funky, Jeremy Kyle material, or just a bit sad & desperate. A lot depends on your overall personality, the clothes you wear, the people you mix with, that kind of thing.
Some people look good, some people look awful. But you're not too old. No way.
( I have quite a few piercings btw )

no age limit, do it if you want it.

but I think that on white skin nose piercings always look like a spot or a mole!

I'm 38 and have just had another 2 piercings in my ear, making 3. I'm a lawyer, dress reasonably conservatively and it looks brilliant. No bugger has noticed though Grin

I've got tattoos on my fingers, feet and other places that aren't seen in work clothes, I've also got my septum pierced and no one ever notices and I'm a professional.

I've got some little stick-on diamonds from Claire's. They look ok. I'm 56Grin

I was wanting a small silver hoop in it rather than a stud...

Do it!
I got mine done at 21 and in my 30s I still love it. I wear Indian gold studs as I don't react to them
I also had a tattoo done last month.

Bollywood fan here - I always associate nose piercings with the most beautiful actresses. Age-wise, I think studs look a bit more grown-up than rings if you care about that.

I'm in the " sad and desperate " camp I'm afraid although if you look a young at 36 you may get away with it.
I'd think you never had the balls to do it ( although it's so common these days it's not something that requires bravery) and only have the guts now because no one notices you.
I'm not the best person to ask though as I think piercings and tats are attention seeking bollocks for people with no imagination.

I'm nearly 35 and have two piercings on my right nostril. Only had them 3 years so wasn't "young".... Go for it.

You're still young. I also have a helix piercing and am planning 2 more in the same ear. Sad and desperate my arse. Perhaps over the age of 35 we should all have our hair cut into a bob and wear boden? Fuck that shit. There are no rules, do what you want to YOUR body.

I don't see it as an age thing. If you want to have it done, go for it- I'm not keen personally and always wonder about the hygiene issues, but nothing to do with age.

If you want it done then do it, if you change your mind you can always take the ring out. Don't worry about your age, lots of people have piercings and they aren't all going to remove them at forty!

Rather than being something you 'only have the guts to do because no-one notices you' I think getting a piecing, a tattoo or anything else when you are 'older' is more to do with feeling free to to look how you want without giving a toss what anyone else thinks.

Being comfortable with yourself, whether that's head to toe in Boden, pierced and tattooed in black leather or somewhere in between, is a great feeling - God knows it takes enough years to get there!

Ooh, I've been really thinking about getting mine done and I'm pushing 40. I had it done when I was a teenager but had to take it out after a couple of weeks for various reasons. Do you have to have it done with a massive stud, does anyone know?

SimonNeilshair · 05/07/2016 20:16

That's very true twentyoneguns, I spent years trying to look like my friends before discovering my own sense of style that I'm comfortable with. It certainly isn't an attention thing as ideally no one would notice it Grin

If you have had your nose pierced, where is the best place to get it done?

I don't think it matters if you're 96 and about to pop your clogs. If you fancy it, do it.

Report
NeverNic · 05/07/2016 20:21

I think both - mid life crisis and do it! Yes people are probably going to think you were having a crisis when they first see / hear what you're doing, but does it matter? As long as it suits you and you love it then do it! Personally I'm not a piercing / tattoo person. They're not for me AND I look too prissy to carry it off. (I was also the Charlotte, never any of the other SATC girls) but a few of my friends have nose piercings and we are early thirties.

I had mine done at a piercing studio in Brighton called Punktured, very professional and experienced and touch wood no problems so far 3 weeks on. It cost me £25 and no Sheila the stud is not massive (couple of mm?) although probably bigger than I will wear once I can change it (they told me 4 months).

A few people have commented (positively) on it but I think a lot haven't even noticed!

i think the term mid life crisis is defunct

Mid life should be a time of awakenings in confidence and the realisation that you 'can' do things you previously resisted...

Embrace life and live it

Do the piercing - tattoo -crew cut. Wear the sparkly shoes.

You'll only regret not doing.

I think if it makes you happy then you should go for it! Who cares what anyone else thinks.I'd rather regret the thing I have done then the things I have not.
